Raised by his mother north of Buckshire and Port Royale in a small farming community. His mother was his last known relative. Two older sisters ran off or were sold into slavery. His mother had had some education and had tried to teach him to read. She died when he was only 15 leaving him to tend to himself. Being the youngest of the family he did not talk much and after the death of his mother he remained silent. Many in the community thought him dumb or mute. For the first few years neighbors tended to him but one day when wandering around the community he disappeared and was never seen in his home again.
He did not know his name and was given a name of Hu Nin by a Druid who found him sitting alone in rags in the forest east of Port Royale. He says he was named that for the sound of the bird he could immitate with such clarity. fooling even the druid himself. Hu nin, hu nin hu nin nin nin, hu nin hu nin hu nin nin nin nin, fooling even the birds themselves to gather about him. The druid thought the boy simple in mind, but quickly realized the boy, had an innate sense of the natural woods and could find herbs and roots to cook, or to heal. It was this boy who saved the Druid's life one day, by finding a rare herb to help cure the druid from a vicious snake bite. After that the boy, Hu nin, traveled in company with the druid and learned from him.
At the age of 18 Hu nin left the company of the Druid and sought out on his own in search of the Great woods of Ferein and the even darker mysterious wood of Mirghul. So far he is lost wandering in circles between Port Royale and Buckshire, seeking the path that will lead him south into new lands. |
