| i have some technical issues my mic not working. and since you guys are the most knowledgeable bunch of ppl i know about about computer stuff, thought i would post here. i think my port isnt working since i tried several different mics on several different programs. would getting a new sound card solve this problem? or any ideas how i can get my mic working for my comp? |

| Well, the first thing to check is your different sound settings. Especially if you have a Creative Labs card (such as an Audigy 2ZS, for example, my own favorite 7.1 surround sound :D) the settings for these things are everywhere. Make sure you check Windows Sounds, and that the mic isn't muted. If you're using one of the Creative cards, go into surround mixer, and over on the right, change it between "What you hear" and "Microphone". Test both to see which one might work for you. Use the Windows Sound Recorder to test, just to make sure it's not un-optimized settings on the program you need the mic for. |

...you may have already tried this, but if your system is set up to use default windows drivers, you can double-click on the little speaker in your system tray, and make sure that 'mic' is not 'muted'. It might be in 'advanced settings. if the icon isn't in your system tray, control panel / sounds and audio devices offers an option to put it back in the tray. there are also some settings you could look at there...but they should be correct by default.
