FAQ: Getting Help with a Problem Posted: 14 Jan 2007 10:11 AM |
One thing I've noticed is that people are not always sure of the best way to get problems resolved. I'm here to clear that up.
Bugs If you have found a bug IG, use the bug reporter widget to report the bug at the place where you have found the bug. It makes it much easier for us to identify the exact bug which means it will get fixed faster.
Don't just tell the DMs, or if you do, do it in addition to creating a bug report. If you only tell the DMs, and then you wonder why 6 months later the bug hasn't been fixed, it is because you didnt submit the bug properly. DMs have a lot on their minds, and remembering a bug given in passing from a player tends to happen.
Problems Logging On If you cannot log on to the server for some reason - most often it is because you have reinstalled NWN with a different CD key - then we need to update the database to reflect your new cdkey.
To do this, send a message to All DMs and it will be taken care of in short order.
If you send a message to one of the DMs in IRC when they are not around, they wont get the information they need to get the problem resolved. Sure, tell the DMs in IRC, but do that in addition to sending a message to all DMs, not instead of.
If we get a message from Guest1234, we are not going to know who it is. So tell us, in your message to all DMs, your PC name, or nwn login (or both!) and it will make our job easier.
Got a Question? Just ask! Sometimes, we get requests in IRC when we are AFK. Starting the request with "Can I ask you a question" and then logging out before we get back is a great way to ensure that we never get around to it, especially since we are in the dark about what question we might have been asked had we actually been around.
Got a Question? Ask the question, don't ask us if you can ask a question. In fact, the next person who asks me if they can ask a question will get an answer of "no". So just ask the question. We promise not to be offended.
And you know what? Best send that question to "All DMs" first. In fact, do that first and then ask in IRC unless you don't care about the answer (in which case, don't ask).
We're happy to help, if you help us in helping you.
