NWN2: Vives 2 Progress Posted: 16 Oct 2006 05:38 AM |
Lore
* History
- Major events under discussion - Vives 1 > Vives 2 timeline roughly sketched out - Vives 1 end / Vives 2 beginning under discussion
* Geography
- Overall geography done - World map roughly sketched - Specific places at various stages of (very detailed) completion -- Main cities/areas have been picked out -- Very very very very very (very) detailed information on the starting area has already been written up - There are some places in the world which will not be IG, but they will still be mentioned and you will still be aware of them just to make the world seem that much bigger (eg. In Vives 1, where do the overseas traders at the Trading Post come from? It doesn't matter, but it hints that there's more to the world than what you know; likewise, Archiax in the Blood and Nightmares storyline was never visited, but we know that the place exists); the lore for off-screen places is every bit as detailed as IG places
* Races
- Overall races and their place/roles in the world figured out - Specific PC races at various stages of completion (some have uniquely Vives twists, so don't assume they are your typical races) -- Dwarves: under discussion, very spiffy possibilities -- Elves: thoroughly worked out, even cooler than Vives 1 thanks to Benny -- Gnomes: done, hee hee hee hee hee -- Half-Orcs: done, and unlike any Half-Orcs you've ever seen before... the lore behind Orcs and Half-Orcs in Vives 2 is truly unique and surprising and really, really cool -- Halflings: in progress, with some interesting twists thrown in for wilder species -- Humans: at various stages of development, with a wide variety of cultures and nations - Other sentient races: are being worked on - Monsters and stuff to fight: are being worked on, and will all have tons of lore behind them for those who wish to study rather than just fight them
* Mythology
- Vives 1 has too much fact and not enough stories, folk tales and mythology - Vives 2 is crammed full of mythology, superstition, customs, folk tales and children's tales, literature... you name it, it's there
* Beliefs
- The Vives 2 belief system was one of the first things to be fleshed out, and fleshed out it was... thoroughly - Belief is not restricted to a single pantheon of gods: there are different systems, different religions and philosophies, and even within each belief system there are split opinions - The writing on this has been completed and we seriously doubt we'll be taking any suggestions or making any changes to this; it is at the moment very comprehensive - As in Vives 1, invalid religions/gods/etc in Vives 2 won't be accepted
Overall, the product of the effort of all the writers at this stage in time is... encyclopedic. For want of a better term. There will be fewer gaps and fewer inconsistencies than Vives 1, yet still enough room to add in new ideas and for the world to grow. |

Timeline
* The timeline is still being hammered out; Vives 2 will take place approximately 2000 years after Vives 1 * The events between now and then and the transition between the two settings is being written up * There will be no transfer of characters from Vives 1 to Vives 2 |

Building
* Ara is a perfectionist. Some starting areas have been hammered out but keep getting rebuilt until they are perfect.
Scripting
* PDW is hammering out the scripts and working out what to keep, what to change, what to add and what to throw away.
Website
* Quietus has built the framework * All the important bits of the back end are done, Fictrix needs to get off her lazy butt and work on the front end (CSS and graphics) now
Transition
* V1 is not ending and will not end for quite a while yet * Details surrounding the end of V1 and transition to V2 continue to be under discussion, based upon PC actions and their impact
Races
* All major PC races (and subraces) have now been locked down and decided upon * NPC races/creatures/monsters for the most part have also had all their lore mapped out by now
Cultures
* Are still being fleshed out * The main starting area cultures are pretty much done * More exotic, outlying cultures are still being written up
Easter Eggs
* Plenty of these everywhere |
