JandP Compromised?!

Another day of legitimate business for the ne'er do wells of J&P enterprises, the attractive lounge of their Wild Tours agency a mild hubbub of would-be heroes, would-be thieves, a few actual heroes and thieves, and even a few would-be would-bes. A cloaked figure entered mostly unnoticed, the desire for anonymity in Port being roughly as rare as the smell of sewage. It is possible that she slipped into the basement unnoticed, strongbox under one arm, or perhaps it was simply assumed that she had authorization, or know the right people, or had bribed enough of the wrong people. In any case, no one stopped her.
When she emerged some minutes later, she had the ill-fortune to collide with a pockmarked thug, the impact throwing her cowl away from her face. A rapidly flushing Rosen Vimes made her stammering apologies and immediately fled from the scene. If not a particularly important oddity, then certainly an oddity. Why would she be there in the first place? Snooping around? Causing trouble? Or is she simply envious of the good life? Any or all of these possiblities are likely to be mentioned in passing - and certainly the anecdote itself.

Like all random snippets of incident, this too fades into obscurity. There is a strong chance that one or two of the cooks absconds from service, with or without explanation.

Hidden behind an oven is a hastily hidden strongbox, securely fastened with an expensive padlock and thus no match whatsoever for a decent thief. Once opened, a cache of 10 Fine Fire Opals and 15,000 GP are inside, alone with the following note.
Can no longer use this as drop off site. Dangerous for obvious reasons.
Extremely grateful for continued information - already coming into play. Consider your payments to be doubled henceforth. They will be quadrupled if things continue to pan out. Essential that we remain one step ahead of him; equally essential that your information remains untraceable, i.e. we do not yet want him to know what we know. Allow him to dig his own grave. Quietly continue gathering evidence.
Contact me via usual fashion, but in new location as previously discussed.

A nice quote I once heard, "The enemy is rarely a villain in his own eyes". Adolph Hitler for example never thought himself as evil. He actually somehow thought was doing what he thought was the greater good. Likewise, Jessup doesnt think "I'll maliciously kill anyone who opposes the Hand or the Port". He views it simply as he will do what it takes to protect the Port and his own, and likely feels a slight remorse for killing, but its what had to be done. He sleeps good at night knowing he did whatever it took to keep them safe. Not taking pleasure in seeing how big a body count he can aquire.
Just saying evil folks have a conscience too, and rarely do they do things out of being evil. They think its justified. |

(( You make a good point right there. One does not just simply do evil deeds without a MOTIVE
-at least not if aware of it, or being without the ability to think well, etc...
Hearing about the whole idea of PandJ compromised, and mistah Jessup out of business sounds very worrying, in OOC way such method is almost without heart. What would there be without PAJ ? Or afterwards to replace it ? It would surely leave a huge gap in list of Port Royales' political enterprises *sad face* )) |

((I think you guys are missing the point. Rosen's trying to start something for IG mystery play purposes. Why would she be in the building? Who is she working with? What is the information? Why such a large amount of payment, and what is it for? What would a paladin be doing sneaking around in there in the first place?Who is the note intended for? Of course, only the "Random Thug" she bumped in to would be able to finger the "intruder" as Rosen, but the point of this is to start something intriguing for the J&P people to play with that has larger ramifications in other plotlines in which Rosen is involved. No where is it mentioned that J&P is out of business or that anyone's been killed or that there's any particular references to someone needing to /be/ killed, at all.
Play or don't, but instantly getting on the defensive band wagon about how misunderstood and necessary Jessup and his Crew are is totally another issue that doesn't have much to do with the plotline that Rosen's trying to initiate.)) |

((I see your point. That could possibly turn out into extremely good roleplay. Besides the usual sneaking, If there ever would be the classical form of RAID to take place into the whole facility. I would propably go get some popcorn and have it as the top winning roleplay entertainment evah)) |

Any storyline in a module is viable.. as long as theres more than one possible outcome.. ie good or bad for either side of the err hmm 'fence' shall we say :)
