Agrippa - a Tale of Fire and Brimstone Posted: 07 Aug 2006 08:37 AM |
Prologue
A window laid open facing directly to a misty seaside. It was the harbour of Port Royale. Voices of nightlife could be heard from alongside the streets, and places not worth mentioning - especially under the gaze of Midoran. A place like this would hold every way to spent ones coin into simple pleasure. Though it's sinful reputation. The place had also another crooked side. Trough years of it's mere existance. Port Royale seemed to gather up folk - ever strange, ever suspicious, the worst of a kind. For those who would seek to escape from their dark past, it would always remain to offer a safe haven.
Yet for those in search of their past.. could be another story.
Chapter I - Escape from Delirium
Man looked outside from his restless chamber. Before his window was a sign "Sanitation" Several weeks ago, or perhaps months, the man had come to seek out if one of the hospitalers could help him with a memory loss. The place had become a mousetrap for him. Or morelike, a personal hell. He could not leave nor either prevent himself of becoming obsessed by occult nightmares.
For he had not been gaining in mental strenght. He had been loosing the very last pieces of sanity and reasoning he ever had.
The workers of sanitarium had taken most of his precious writings away from him. They had also put something in his mouth to stop him from speaking gibberish and preventing him from biting his tongue.
It was the day when the darkness took him
Agonising headache had taken over the man. He woke up with a burning desire to quickly write something up, only to find out that he had been firmly chained to the northernmost wall. His eyes blurred with vertigo, the man started.
A breaking sound was heard, followed with a suffocated scream. It was the sound of his anckle breaking. Sweat pouring down from his forehead, the man had pulled his other leg free from a tightly attached chain.
Man reached for a moldly tome that he had been hiding under his bedroll. In a subconscious state, barely aware of his surroundings. With his bare feet the man managed to open a charcoal shaded tome. The tome had a documentary journal inside. The handwriting was very familiar. He had seen it before somewhere, perhaps numerous times, but he could not remember where. He was in delirium.
And then he could finally remember. He was the person in that documentary. Perhaps his whole previous life had been written into the pages. But he could not remember no name such as the person had.
The pieces were all coming together. Soon he would discover about his memory loss. His memories would soon all come back to him - but so would his demons.
Moments passed. Suddenly the room shook with a trembling sensation. Darkness grew, and the candles were doused by a shadowy visage, followed by a taint of sulphur.
"Agrippa" he spoke out. He observed his body, and found out that he was no longer gagged, and the chains that had prevented him from leaving had been removed in a mysterious way.
There was no sense left in his eyes. It was all madness. "I REMEMBER !" he shouted. Charcoal tome was lying close to his heart, as the documentary journal was set inflame by the mere touch of his other hand. After a brief moment the room was deserted, besides one single detail.
There was something carved into the floor. It was a blasphemious symbol, and mockery againtst the church of midoran.
There was only the faul stench of brimstone And a promise for grim deeds to be done |

(( OOC- the following is not an actual chapter in Agrippa's story ))
Documentation by sanitation office :
name: Agrippa, unkown surname, or family if any occupation: caballist wizard, thouh persistantly claims to be an ex-librarian illness: temporal memory loss, morbid nightmares current state: Escaped from the sanitation department. Note. Tends to solve things trough means of violence.
Patient calls him self "Agrippa", and acts though as being many decades older than he looks like. Description: colorless hair, untanned skin, bears evocative markings on his arms, and is physically well formed. Patient is conciderably dangerous, and should be reported immediately to any hospitaler, or town guard if sighted.
eye-witness : A witness to incidents concerning Agprippa. An old man who was held next door as a patient of the sanitarium. From his perspective he claimed to have seen the "Burning Man" or something that he called a "Man who was not there" As the hospital workers could hear him screamnig "the man is burning !, the man is burning !" They rushed to help, and found that the old man had rolled him self into a ball, and was paralysed from effects, that could only be explained as fear. After that, the patient had ceased any form of communication with the hospital workers. |

BURNING TIMES Posted: 17 Aug 2006 08:04 PM |
______________________________ ((note. the story is going way back in time at this point, meaning that the following happened before Chapter I))
Chapter II – Memories from the Past
Bloody Rampage, Midor
It was all restless time, since the the Bloody Rampage , that had taken place in Midor. Southern and central part of Midor were almost utterly destroyed by a great fire. A heretical time indeed. It was told that the fire was all planned by some organised group of men.
The time was followed by only restlessness, and fear for the priesthoods merciless inquisitions Witch-hunts, that would keep the priesthoods ever so fiery nature in force. They would keep executing the heretics, and calling down the will of Midoran to strike down the pagans.
BURNING TIMES
Another fire started at the southern district. For this time it had been set up by a Midoran priest performing his duties.
A boy was seen running towards a burning library. He was holding something in his hand. A lettter, that was the reason for his distress.
The letter had read: ___
Son, By the time you receive this letter My fate will already be sealed
The Midorans are coming to get me The priesthood has voted for my execution. For they have found my library distrubing
There is a confession I have to make I am part of a circle,
Spellcircle that practice witch-craft
Formed by group of magi, that were all exiled from Midor years ago.
Now they have found out my identity. I am finished. It is all over for me.
You can find my research at the old library I have left you something there
A book that has the power to write it’s self Agrippa - Of occult thaumaturgy
I will leave my library to you as a heritage
For I will be burned tomorrow dawn at the stake ___
The boy kept running. His heart pounding like one of racehorses. With desire only to reach the end of the district – before it was too late. Templar struck a spear in front of the boy to block his way
The boy started, with a voice mixed with confusion and fear. He shouted to the armored man. “My father is inside that library ! You must stop this at once. You are killing him !”
The templar tried to calm the boy. “There is nothing we can do. Your father had taken part in a circle of witchcraft, and is to be executed by rightful means”
“Damnation ! No salvation !” The templar was interrupted by a priest of the clergy who had been observing the burning library in turmoil. “In time of peril we must take heed on words of Midoran”
The priest noticed the boy who had refused to leave, and was instead watching the fiery scene next to a templar knight. “Yes boy. Stay with us to see justice be done. Witness the justful act of death by fire”
"You are all vile and murderous butcherers !" There was great anger in the boys tone of voice, as he spoke back to the elderly cleric. "What about my mother ? She was in there too !”
The priest spoke dryly “Oh.. the elf. She was Exiled, and is no longer a citizen of Midor”
The templar joined in, to reason with the boy “You must understand that under these circumstances she was quite lucky to have made it so far”
Yet the boy remained to question.. “Where is she ? I want to see her !” He was unfortunate to realise too late, that he had upset the old cleric.
“Silence cross-breed !” The priest slammed the child into face - followed by a trail of blood dripping from his wrist
The boy looked scared, and did not find the words on how to answer the priest. The cleric had grown irritated for being questioned over and over again.
He took up a burning stick from the walkway, and with a gesture he indicated the templar to hold the boy still At instant the boy felt someone grasping him from shoulders, and was lifted in the air.
“You dare to resist will of Midoran ? You dare to question cleric of priesthood ?” The priest came closer and closer to the boy, and spoke out “Step forth only to receive proper cleansing from your elven heritage”
A burning stick came close to boys forehead. And the boy felt limb and collapsed to the ground.
The priest looked most disappointed, for he could not get to the chance to browbeat the boy no longer. And with an angered voice he demanded the templar. “Brother Stellos, See this bastard to the clinic to be sterilized”
As the templar reached for the boy again, he soon found out that the boy had not been unconscious at all
The boy threw a handful of sand straight on the mans face
And with a quick spring he charged to flee Behind him, the boy could hear the priests’ curse as he ran onward the streets
The boy was quickly surrounded by seven armored men. And the priest that had given them order to draw weapons, was attempting to throw the boy with a spear.
There was no place to hide nor escape so he ran into his only passage - The library, that was being consumed by flames |

Chapter III – the Torment
The shelves were all burning.. everything was still in it’s place but all was burning His fathers works and documents were being devoured by flames.
The boy saw someone tied to a stone pillar in the center of library hall
And then there he was, right before him, a man wreathed in flames The flames rose and fell, but did not consume him. His skin started out a painful red, and then it burned and blackened and split, glowing blood-red in the open cracks, before darkening further like a living cinder, only to crack and fall away, revealing fresh new skin underneath. Over and over again in an endless agonizing cycle the crackling flames rose and fell, and his body just kept burning. Wreathed in flames, endlessly tormented.
It was his father. Who was still very much alive and conscious
“A sadistic spell cast by the priests to lenghten my sufferings,” said the burning man With a dry, rasping voice. Flames danced on his tongue, inside his mouth.
“The book boy ! Find the book and save me from this hell !”
The boy fell back a step, driven back by the blazing heat. “Father !? Is that you ?”
“Yes boy ! Tis me, and I need you to bring someting from my study. Bring me the book of Agrippa ! And we can be saved !”
“Yes father ! I will do this” The boy did not know what else to do.
The library was being swallowed by the flames that grew from the stalk of pillar.
The boy ran into the study, and found out that it had been separately torched into flames. All of the scrolls and books had burned into ashes.
All except one. A charcoal shaded tome was lying over the remains of his fathers’ desk. The book was labelled “Agrippa, of occult thaumaturgy”
The boy managed to fish the tome out of the fire with his fathers walking cane. As he touched the tome it felt like someone was grasping at his soul. The very boundaries of his life. The boy started running back to his father.
By the time he got back, he was unable to see the roof of the library hall, since there was too much of smoke, and reeking darkness. The boy felt like choking as he finally reached his father. His fathers skin would still keep regenerating back at the same time when it was being devoured by flames
“Good work son ! Now I need you to give me that book. ”
The boy was going to give the book to his father, but during process he fell to the pile of burning coals.
His father could do nothing As his son was set in flames Right in front of him He was unable to help his only son
“Father !” The boy screamed, and was engulfed by flames
For a while someone was in controll - of his father And It was not the same librarian who had lived to form a family, and raise up a son of his own.
The burning man had started chanting in a voice, that was of massive power By the time he had gotten free from the shackles it was too late for his son And the roof of library gave up a loud shattering sound
The man ran out of the building under the regenerative spell
And his tears that were not there Everything was engulfed in flames
The experience had cost him most of his sanity And the life of his only son
