Lore: Bloodwood Posted: 15 Jun 2006 12:15 AM |
((The following is UNCOMMON KNOWLEDGE. It is known by the locals of Brandibuck and Ladriel. It is known by any PC who has actually heard these things—and more—IC. It may also be known by bards who are well-versed the local myths and superstitions of the area.))
Bloodwood
An eerie and tainted wood filled with all manner of bloodthirsty beasts, most who pass through the Bloodwood—and live to tell the tale—see only a fraction of the horrors the vile place contains. For, deep within these woods, deeper than any have ever dared to explore, one can find bloody altars dedicated to the more bloodthirsty gods of Vives.
But as is often the case in Vives, these are merely the tip of the iceberg.
Buried deep in earth and darkness lies a sinister force that has lurked in silence since time immemorial, sustained by millennia of blood and evil deeds.
The Bloodthirsty Beast
Locals say that if one must pass through the Bloodwood, one should do so with all due speed—and stealth. They say that to spill blood in those woods only strengthens whatever evil lurks beneath the earth, which feeds and feeds and feeds on blood and violence and murder—and cares not who commits the atrocity.
The Bloodwood Rangers
Few remember the Bloodwood Rangers, for the simple reason that few have ever met these enigmatic hin. Masters of stealth and trap-setting, and deadly archers, they disliked making themselves known. Indeed, it’s a wonder that any record of them exists at all.
Some say they were benevolent, and it is because of them that a route exists at all between the Kobai desert and Brandibuck. Others say they worshipped the Great Beast, and waylaid travellers to sacrifice to their terrible god.
Whatever the case, they have lain extinct now for many centuries, destroyed and devoured by some unknown force. |
