Lore: The Mazadhi Posted: 07 Jun 2006 08:46 PM |
((The following is COMMON KNOWLEDGE and is fairly easy to find either via books or—more commonly—tales.))
Preamble: Gruin
Warfare is his only love.
He has been known to spark wars between even the most loyal of his followers merely for the sake of watching them do battle. To hear the clash of steel on steel. To hear the sounds of rending flesh. To hear the screams of pain and the thundering battle cries.
The other gods look down on him, but as far as he is concerned, they too are merely pieces to be shuffled around the board. A word here, a nudge there, and bloodshed erupts.
The Mazadhi
Before civilisation existed, before writing was invented, before the invention of wizardry and the discovery of steel, there were the Mazadhi. A primal race of Humans, they were savage, Gruin-worshipping warriors governed by a strict matriarchal hierarchy. In Mazadhi culture, women held power (divinely, arcanely, militantly and politically), men were slaves, Orcs were revered, and Half-Orcs were viewed almost as demi-gods. Some believe that the Kobai are a splinter of the Mazadhi, a group of slaves who escaped and vowed never to be ruled by women again. This is mere speculation and little evidence exists to support it.
These were days when the Kobai had not yet been seared by Naruth's fire, and most of it was lush jungle. In this environment, the Mazadhi thrived, and none could stand in their path. Or at least, that was the case until they encountered the Sslissayath. |

((The following is SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE and is known ONLY to the following: Druids and Clerics of Gruin; Barbarians of the Fiirkrag tribes; Shamans of M'Gok Tukar; the Kraken Sailors; the Aecini; the Druid of Mirghul. They are unlikely to EVER divulge this information without DM intervention.))
The Sslissayath
Although no records exist at all to prove it, the antediluvian reptilian race known as The Sslissayath are worshippers of a god whom they refer to as "The Nemesis". Cold, ruthless and domineering, they are older than Fey but younger than Dragonkind. They are certainly older than any of the races that walk the lands these days.
War
The Mazadhi and the Sslissayath warred for many uncounted generations, for they held sway over abutting territories and each coveted the land—and the subjugation—of the other.
The final fate of each race is uncertain. Most will say that the Sslissayath won. Others say that each drove the other near extinction, or all the way to extinction.
Whatever the case, the Mazadhi are agreed to have been extinct for two thousand or so years now. |
