The concept behind the Illumine Alliance is a dead simple one: it's a voluntary organisation that is dedicated to the greater good.
The idea behind the Alliance, as well as its formation and organisation, is credited to the Novus Aristi and in particular Phillippe Jongras, former Paladin and former High Captain of Midor, now leader of the Alliance.
You can think of it as a mish-mash of Amnesty International, the Red Cross, One, and any other number of voluntary organisations in existence today, all rolled into one. Vives is a dangerous world, and the Alliance strives to make it a better, safer place to live in.
It should be noted that the Alliance is not a controlling organisation such as the UN. It is not a governing body. It is not trying to set itself up as an international police force or trying to impose international laws everywhere. It is exactly what it claims to be: an alliance of disparate individuals and groups. It does not exist to impose a certain dogma upon the entire world, and indeed, is the ultimate neutral ground when it comes to beliefs—so long as those beliefs align with the core belief of the Alliance.
Setting up educational and cultural centres, better and safer transport systems, sanitariums and hospitals and orphanages, homeless shelters, is what the Alliance is about. In the case of communities being endangered, the more militant members of the Alliance are called upon to defend against whatever danger threatens. |
