Madeline looked into her makeshift tent. She packed only what she would need. Her sword. Her shield. A pack for food and a water skin. She wouldn’t be returning to Paws. At least not like she was now. No, things were going to change. She wasn’t sure if they would be for the better, but they couldn’t get much worse could they? She threw her cloak on and proceeded to walk out. Straight out. Out of Paws, out of Midor’s grasp. She had festered over this decision for too long. Her brother had made his. She had advised him not to go on with his decision. Alas she knew it didnt matter what she thought.. She saw this coming. All of it. She was after all the older sibling. Little brother wanted to play war. Let him. Hell be doing it against me she thought. Well see how much the academy had taught him. Rivalries between siblings are normal. What Madeline and Percival shared was something else. Everything was a competition. From early childhood one tried to out do the other. Whether it was spitting, jumping or even churning butter. It did not matter. All that did was beating the other. Then promptly shoving it in his or her face. This was normal to her as well as him. It was about to get a bit more serious however. That was something she didn’t want to think about.
As she made her way towards the Great Plains she turned and looked back towards the White City. She thought of all the memories there. Growing up with her family. All the schooling. The academy. Her attainment of paladinhood. For some reason it was easy for her to turn her back on all of it. She couldn’t figure out why. It was supposed to be difficult wasn’t it?
She looked onward towards Mirghul. She checked her buckles on her armor and rechecked her pack. With a dep breath she pressed forward. To where? She had no idea. There was talk of rebel groups sprouting up everywhere. She would have to figure out which suited her best. All she knew is that this would certainly infuriate her brother. With that thought in mind she let out a slight chuckle.
Maybe this wasn’t such a bad idea after all. |

“What do you mean she is gone?!”
The tone said it all.
“Gone sir. She abandoned her post. All that was left was some of her gear and a note addressed to you.” The guard said holding it out.
Percival took it and looked at the guard.
“I want her found. NOW!!” He shouted.
“Take a squad and find her. Do not return until you have her is that understood? You are not to tell anyone else of this. Are we absolutely clear on this?” Percival fumed.
“Yes sir.” The guard nodded.
He quickly made his way out of Percival’s chambers.
*sigh*
She couldn’t have just gone along with everything could she. She had to make it difficult. Always the thorn in my a$ he thought. Big sister trying to be different. Always trying to make things hard for me. Well this time it will be different Percival thought. He had the upper hand he thought. He was the first paladin of Midor to forsake his paladin hood in order to become a Sword. A move many thought treasonous. Not him. It was only the first step to his goal.
As he sat down he glanced at the note in his hand.
He opened it to reveal a smiley face with the words…
“HAVE A NICE DAY”
underneath it.
How he hated her sometimes. |
