A minor technical curiosity Posted: 20 Mar 2006 01:38 AM |
I thought I would post about the phenomenon which has been occuring to me for some time now. This happens only with anything vives.dyndns.org related stuff. Like this website or the game server. My comp manages to connect to this site but sometimes, not always, manages not to transfer any data. So if I want to open a new post to read it or post something it will connect but thats it. At times I need to click a post about a dozen times before it finally opens it. Same thing happened yesterday with the gameserver, while direct connecting to vives.dyndns.org it said "Server found" and "Attempting to log in" but after that nothing. Today I thought I would have a closer look at it and decided to try and "pump" the connect button like I do with post links at the website. It worked after about a dozen connect attempts made in a short time. I have not encountered anything like this before. It is a nuisance, not a real problem, but you get frustrated when you have to "force" the computer into doing something.
Is this problem pherhaps DNS related? Anyone have any ideas? I am probably going to have to "pump" the Post button a few times before this post is sent... *mumbles* |

| ARe you usign firefox to browse the forums? Because that does give trouble. If you do, use the IE Tab featur extension for Vives. Also it messes up the format of the PMs in firefox (but th eplug in helps with that too). |

Yeah I do use firefox as any normal person would do j/k Ok I'll look up the IE Tab extension. Anyway it does not explain why the nwn client behaves just the same with the gameserver. Might be something with the ISP aswell.. *shrugs* |

| I have the same problem with IE at home and at work. When I view a post I have to click on the post link several times sometimes to make the post display. |

Sorry, can't help you there. I use Firefox too and experienced the same problems with the website. Somehow it must not like, but with IE Tab, which you can find HERE it works fine.
I do not have the same problems with connecting to the server however. |

The server is running IIS and .net.
For some unexplained reason it causes tremendous grief with firefox and opera - but not IE. Who could imagine that?
Firefox 1.5.0.1 appears to behave much better (except for the skinny pm message box ).
As for your server connection problems, that is another issue unrelated to the browser problem. Not sure what that is. I've had it happen to me a few times and then the problem went away.

Edit: if you insist in using firefox or IE, my suggestion is that if the page doesnt start to load within two seconds, press escape and click on the link again. |

| I am using the IE Tab now and it works without clicking the links many times in a row. Guess the server problem has something to do with the spirit world of internet. I guess it will start working just fine anytime. |

I just installed IE Tabs, and it seems to work well...
I guess thats sort of groovy... though somehow I feel dirty... like I'm tainting my Firefox browser by using it. *smirks, and suddenly has an overwhelming urge to wash* |

ACK!! and you cant simply right click and go the opposite direction!
I mean, thats cool and all, being able to right click and open it in an IE tab, but then they should have an option to right click and go back to Firefox from an IE tab.
...or am I just missing something? |

ahhh.. thanks.
while left clicking didn't actually work, it did make me try right clicking and I saw the "switch rendering engine" option, which DID work. |
