Aimee was more tired than she could remember ever being, yet she could not sleep. Every time she closed her eyes, she only saw the pile of dead bodies. The faces of her parents twisted in agony mingled with the faces of the rest of the dead. Slaughtered, she was told, as part of an initiation ritual. An utterly sensless death.
Aimee had left Paws when she was only 13. She loved her parents, but she was restless in the small farming community. She felt that if she didn't see the world right then, she would crawl out of her skin. Anton and Lorese Victory were loving parents who were also very dedicated to their farm. They couldn't understand why their daughter always seemed distracted and took all day to do her chores. Lorese was constantly telling her daughter to stop daydreaming. One night after a particularly backbreaking day of laboring on the farm, Aimee left her parents a note and headed off down the road. At first life on the road was rough, she hadn't planned things well and didn't even bring along any food or gold. She tried to find work but was told that she was too young. Eventually a half-starved Aimee turned to stealing food to survive. She found that she had a particular talent for sneaking into places and coming back out with an item of food undetected. Soon she moved up to stealing gold and objects. That was 10 years ago and she never looked back.
That is never looked back until today when Cal suggested going to Paws to get supplies. Aimee wasn't thrilled with the idea of going there, but she went along. She usually did what Cal wanted. After all he was older and had a lot to teach the young woman. She looked up to him as someone who could protect her as well as help her become more skilled in her particular area of expertiese.
Even for Paws, it seemed too quiet when they arrived. There seemed to be nobody around. The searched the town finding nobody. Finally they entered the tavern. It was filled with people, but none of them locals. Some of them Aimee knew, others she did not. Listening to their conversations she heard one of them talking about how everyone had been killed. Aimee ran out the door and down the road to her parent's farm. She searched the entire farm and found no sign of her parents. She ran back to the tavern and told Cal that her parents were gone. He seemed confused at first, apparently forgetting this was once Aimee's home. Garick & Lucuis overheard her and told her that they had found some bodies in the woods. She asked them to show her. That was when she saw her parents for the first time in 10 years and the last time ever. Everyone offered their sympathies and Aimee was grateful for their kind words. Cal talked only of revenge. Aimee wasn't sure how to feel about this. Revenge, after all, is just more bloodshed....or, is it? |
