*Ding, Ding* Final Round!
Posted: 31 Jan 2006 06:40 AM
Alright folks, this is an ooc post to let people know some important facts if they have any interest in the night masks / the black hand / Port Royale.

There is an event coming up to conclude the story I have been running on this. This will be the first real combat event in this storyline, but is likely to be a fairly climactic, and combat heavy event. Though with a good sprinkling of story, atmosphere and RP I would hope.

I would imagine that most players with an interest already know and are involved / preparing. It is currently pencilled in for either Thursday or Friday night this week, UK time 8pm. And it will be aimed at high to epic level characters. Times will be confirmed when players let Chief know their definite availability.

For IC and OOC reasons there is a limit on number of people who can participate. But if you do have an interest, would be worth getting in contact with those in the know.

The limit on players, and the level of this adventure, are both a rarity for Vives. And will continue to be so, rarely we aim at something so exclusive, but this time it is needed. The vast majority of DM events will continue to be open to most / all, and not be determined so much by level. That said, given the issues of lag and large groups, there may be a few more organised a little like this, across the full range of characters and levels.

The following information MUST be made known to anyone who is definitely going to be participating in this event. Please encourage everyone to have read it thoroughly, the success of the event is going to at least partially rely on people following these guidelines:

1) This will be a challenging event. With significant consequences for success or failure. As such, the headless chicken approach that can occur when combat starts could be cataclysmic. Think. Tactics will matter. Understand what you are walking into, be prepared and be ready for anything! :0)

2) Move as a group. Everyone together. From a DM point of view, and from your own survivability, this will help a lot. Recognise when people are hurt, dont rush, the event will last as long as it takes.

3) Listen to descriptions. Make sure you understand anything you are being told, send me a tell or mssg in the DM channel if you really need something clarified.

4) This is ESSENTIAL. From the moment you begin this mission, EVERY time you transition, wait for everyone to appear, do not move more than a pace or two from where you appear, and DO NOT attack monsters that you can see. Every monster will have its AI turned off at first, and will not react in any way to you. This is to allow all players to transition, have a chance to hear any description, and take in the surroundings. When the monsters begin to move and act, then you can do so too. That way you know the entire group is ready, and the problems with the "computer game" aspects and lag can hopefully be minimised. So to repeat, do NOTHING once you get through a transition until everyone is through, and the combat starts.

5) Know your spellcraft skill. If applicable to you, know what your spellcraft skill is beforehand, as some descriptions will apply only to those whose spellcraft is X, and time can be saved in a situation where time matters by not having to check.

6) As dying is really going to matter on this mission, I will listen to reasonable ooc concerns that have resulted in death. Please dont abuse this, if you think you would probably have died anyway just accept the consequences.

7) It is in the hands of the players, not myself, who attends this mission. Choose wisely...

8) Should you reach the very top area of where you are headed, you will get a description. I want to just answer the mechanics of this description. There is a supernatural ritual of pacification in place. This makes EVERYONE in the area unable to contemplate any act of violence against another living creature. I will make it very clear should this ritual come to an end. It cannot be dispelled. It cannot be ended or bypassed by any spell any of you have. However, it does not make you feel benign or happy. Just forcibly prevents violence or hostile acts of any sort against the living. Yes that does include non-damaging spells. You still retain the ability to think and feel exactly as your character would, without any outside influence. Including speaking as directly as you choose to do.

9) Dont worry about the xp, please do not party. I am hopeful lag wont be an issue, but nonetheless this helps to avoid it, and is more important than missing out on a bit of combat xp.

10) Above all, have fun and good luck!

[ That's comforting.

Contemplating this, I came to the conclusion that I would like to be able to better orchestrate the movements of my summons on this mission. Is it possible that I could get a DM to play my summons for me, so as to get the flexibility I require? Somebody not involved in this event who might be looking for something interesting to do? ]

Multiple DMs add vast amounts of lag, and this will already be a multi-DM event, so very doubtful I am afraid. May be possible for the earlier parts of the mission, will look into that...

((DMs also cannot play summons as they are summoned. Though techinally they could play another creature spawned in as if it was a summon. But generally at DM events DMs are too busy DMingWink))

Well, yeah, I was just hoping for somebody off-duty who wasn't planning to actually DM the event. I could summon the creature with the spell, wait for the DM-controlled replacement to appear, and unsommon it.

Totally understand what you want to do, and why. Given the do not attack nature of some stages of the event. Just not sure I can guarantee someone spare to do it, hands will be at a premium as is. So you may have to just keep a very tight rein on them, sorry, but worth it to stop the hassles that would otherwise effect the event.

Cheers,

Sirac

Alright folks, a few last pointers before the "fun" begins...

- Keep it slow when not fighting. Allow time for descriptions. This event will happen in fairly confined space, so charge ahead at breakneck speed, the event will be a lot less fun for all.

- It probably goes without saying, but you may be meeting a couple of CPCs, PvP rules do not apply to them. And it is a very good idea, once hostility is intended and possible, to make sure you switch to hostile. Otherwise some spells wont work, summons wont attack, etc. The DMs playing the CPCs will try and remember to do this anyway, but if they forget, just a heads up. Dont go hostile during any talk, or you may inadvertently attack, ie AoO's.

- If you have a spellcraft of higher than 20, send me a tell with your actual score near the start of the event. That way I know who I need to inform of certain things. The time it takes me to send you the tell is the time it takes for you to figure things out! :0)

- Have fun, cya tonight,

Sirac
