I'm not sure that powergaming threads are "highly prized" in the consideration of the moderators.

Still, it's an interesting bit of research that I had not seen before.

Some people are interested in the mechanics of the game and are still top class RPers, so it's fine (in my personal opinion) to post threads like this.

- Solitaire, Wizard
- Ilyana Fiirhaart, High Priestess of Naruth

Very interesting for those of us who havnt the time or inclination to sus it out for themselves.
And , if that constitutes powergaming then i quit.
Does a fighter putting a +1 in his strength at levels 4,8 and 12 also constitute powergaming then.etc.............
I think that this sort of information being available to everyone is what annoys people who already are powergamers and dont want the playing field leveling.

Just as an addendum, as couldnt see it in that article. One thing I have heard many experienced players complain of is that monsters are hitting them, when they should be missing. For example, a players character sheet says AC 30 but monsters are hitting on a 28. This is NOT a bug.

Most classes can be caught flat footed. That means they have been beaten on initiative, or attacked before they were ready for melee. And for most classes means you lose all dodge and dex bonuses to AC.

This can -really- hurt a dex based character, some builds can lose 10+ pts of AC very easily through this. And is why the ability of dwarven defenders, rogues, barbs etc to not be caught flat footed can be very useful. Though even they can be caught out.

One extra tip. In any NWN server, watch out for when people enter or leave the world. Cos this causes a universal action cancel, ie any actions you have queued disappear, and if in combat you will stop fighting until you initiate combat again. If slow to react to this can be absolutely lethal.

Cheers, and HAPPY NEW YEAR all,

Sirac

I agree with Time4Bed and Solitaire. I for myself try to know as much about the game mechanics as I can AND at the same time constantly strive to be a better RPer.

I don't understand why weak build -> must be a better RPer. I want to make a good character in both RP and somewhat in build as well, but maybe that is a sin.

Of course, if people ONLY powergame, that cannot be tolerated. But if they RP and happen to be effective as well, is that so bad? I will make my next character much weaker, but that's only because I think that one will be fun to RP.

-> edit: just a small change, as Sirac was faster than me.

Couldn't agree more.

note to players:

no powerbuild will save you from Sirac's randoms acts of death, murder and general mayhem - ask Jessup - the powerbuild ballerina (or is that flowerbuild? :)

yes Veran where are you !
just so we can put the AC thing to bed (dificult without your input)

(just incase anyone isnt aware who Veran is...

he is in fact Data off of nextgen

he knows more about your pc's than you do more about the game mechanics than the developers ever did .. and yes i fear .....he probably knows where you live , what you do and why you have dificulty making friends.)

However he's our Veran and we love him for it

Yes, your mixing it all up. They seem to often have far to much AC for their own good.. But then will die if love tapped due to the lack of any sort of Constituation.

No, no. I can attest to the fact his characters have no AC either.

Why need AC when you can cut something down before it can touch you?

His one character has a pretty good AC. Just sayin'.

Nah, I'm not hurt, I've been made fun of for my various forms of character fraility on the forums of like 6 different PW's, I'm definitely over-it.

And of course, knowing that most of my characters can push around most characters of a much higher level.... *wicked grin*

</brag>

It's a good post too, finally, I can point someone to this thread, instead of trying to explain it in game, gently, and having all the Dm's blame me for powergamer influx.

There are a few things I'm considering adding to this post, however, like the specifics on the dodge feat, attacks of oppurtunity, flat-footed etc etc.
