Treetops, those annoying green obstacles Posted: 28 Dec 2005 05:13 PM |
Is there any button to turn off the treetops in Vives? I enjoy a good scenery as much as any person, but sometimes the treetops are just extremely annoying.
Now, those pesky leaves are of no concern to me, until some big, doubtless magic-wielding, nastiness is running after me and lobbing all kinds of groovy many-colored spells at me. That is, when I'm running away. I have almost been killed many times because I haven't seen where I was going because of the treetops. Yes, I can change the camera angle, but I haven't found out a satisfactory one yet.
So, I ask again, is there a way to "turn off" the treetops, even for a short while? (so I can haul a$ when need be)
Or, do I just have to accept that beautiful scenery is a part of this world, in goodness and in nastiness? |

Unfortunately, there is no way to turn them off. Tilefade doesn't work on that particular tileset, which is an override of the normal Forest.
It's just something you'll have to take up with the people who made the tileset (search for DC Forest on NWVault). Who knows? If enough people complain, they might actually put tilefade back. |

| Using the keys to move is also helpful in there. |

| I often find it extremely useful to zoom the camera in close in those forested areas and use the wsad keys to move around. Its not that great of an angle but atleast you can see what is around you when things get hot. |

Yes, that is exactly what I do as well. This works well to see what's near you, but it doesn't give you a good range of vision to see further objects, thus leading me into roadblock situations once in a while.
But, if it's a fact that the trees can't be "erased", I can live with it. I shouldn't complain anyway, as I haven't died yet DIRECTLY because of that. Thanks for the input everyone. |

I must admit that even though the tree-tops annoy me some of the time, I also feel that they add a lot of flavour to the game. When my character is running through the trees -I- can't see where they are going clearly and that adds to the realism for me.

Agreed with this last point. A few months back I toggled the hide second story option to off, just to see what it was like.
Also, speaking as a real choke artist when it comes to combat in NWN, I think we should acknowledge that getting lost in the woods while running away is really about panicking in the face of danger, which is kind of groovy from an RP standpoint. Hope it suits y'all's characters as much as it suits mine! |
"What are you talking about?"
"I'm talking about dying."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means lying in the ground with dirt on your face and holding your breath forever."

Uhm... Thank God for my awesome sense of direction? *Has never ever ever fled from monsters only to find himself in the face of bigger, badder and uglier monsters*
*Flees from the uber-lich +99 and tries dodging around the now paltry dire bear* |
