Live in a Barn? Posted: 09 Dec 2005 12:47 PM |
Well, I can't help but to think of what my parents always asked whenever someone left a door open. That, of course, was, "Do you people live in a barn?".
I keep wandering around the lands and seeing doors wide open. By the time the next reset comes around, Midor looks like it's been sacked, Port Royale looks like it's been plundered by raiding pirates, and poor Mrs. Miggins is freezing because there's a draft.
Now, I know it's not something you really think about, as you really don't feel any wind to remind you it's cold out, you don't hear NPCs yelling at you because they're not posessed by a demon (or DM, however you pronounce it ) and you're quickly on your way to your next adventure, but please, please remember to shut the door behind you (Unless of course you ARE actually currently waging war on the city and have just recently taken the place and your army is currently taking it's fees from the people and property of the said city)
Thanks :D |

Well, I for one, close doors, or do not close doors, solely based upon the character I am playing at the time.
So if I leave a door open, it's on purpose. well... or it's purposefuly forgetful.. erm.. or unconcerned about the state of the door... heh, you get the idea.
I can't speak for anyone else though. |

Well I know that I do sometimes close a door....normally after my character has walloped something in that room and does not wish to have it's ghost jump right back out on her on the way back :P
Sometimes I even close a door cos I just feel like it *shrugs* However I have a feeling that SOME doors automatically have a shut door script on em after a bit...but in that I could be wrong, or thinking of another world where that happens.
I shall try and remember to close a door behind me in the future, as i know all too well how the smallest thing can drive a person nuts ;) |

I have to say that i share Tasras' concern. Especially doors that seperate adjoining properties, these should infact be 1 hour fire check doors and be fitted with a closer and an intumiscent strip. And. Another thing They should also be 2'10.5" as opposed to 2'9" to enable wheelchair access. New builders take note.

This is a good point (not Dave's post ) thieves should be especially careful to close doors behind them, to represent having opened the door a crack and then slipped through and (hopefully) soundlessly closed the door behind them again.

Dave's post is a good point too /me goes around to start measuring doorways
And people, don't be afraid to spread the word to people that may not check the forums very often! Remind them IC, even be rude about it! Run them through every time they don't shut a door! They'll get the point! :D (Pun intended) |

This is true. My rogue, Aimee, always makes sure to close doors behind her for the obvious reasons. Iris, however, was born in the woods (not a barn) and doesn't always think about closing doors. She is trying though. |
-Melina Danicelven-Songsinger, Fighter-Druid Life is pain, you just get used to it.
-Aimee Victory, Rogue Be excellent to each other.
-Iris Tammarack, Ranger I'd have been here sooner, but I was busy coming up with that ham on rye line. |

I was thinking more along the lines of this:

But I suppose a knife would work as well, until the builders realize the true potential of muzzle loaders in game :) |

Lets face it. At the end of the day its only polite to close the door behind you, especially at this time of year, some of the older npc's really suffer with the cold. Also please make sure to put the seat down after using the public toilets in Port Royale And whoever it is that squeezes the toothpaste tube from the middle when overnighting at Scheppens' , please refrain. |
