Time was running out and the rebels knew it. One of their own, Sir Edrik Whitestone, was going to soon be fatherless. His father was set to be executed for the crime of heresy.
The old man sat alone in his cell. He was a frail, empty shell of the man he was before the incarceration. His unkempt hair had gone grey, an unkept beard, more at home on a begger then a paladin, sweapt across his face. His body was thin and weak from the ravages of the demon known as hunger. Day by day, his surrounds never changed – grey stone walls that every moment seemed to creepy forward, making his cell smaller and smaller.
After a number of weeks, he finally received his first human interaction. A Righteous Sword Inquisitor entered the cell followed by two women carrying a meal fit for a king. “Clean him up,” the Inquisitor barked at the women, “And you," she pointed a long finger at the chained man, "eat.”
The prisoner mustered his remaining strength to knock over the tray. Food toppled onto the dirty stone floor. “Like Hell I will," he snarled definatly. He knew why he they wanted him to eat. Midor wouldn’t want to execute a half starved man. It may cause sympthy in the public, and that would only complicate matters.
The Inquisitor's voice shook with rage. She drew her crossbow with a single fluid motion and shot the man in the foot. “You will eat!” she screamed in his face. |
