Community chest usage Posted: 03 Nov 2005 09:54 AM |
Hi guys,
I just went into the Four Winds to drop some things in the Community chest and noticed that it's full to the brim - but with starting adventurer gear. Woodmans outfits, leather armour, daggers, sorcerer's robes - you name it. Nothing that was in there was anything remotely useful to a starting adventurer. It looked to me like people had just used it to dump their unwanted starting gear.
To me, that's a real shame . I love the idea of the community chest, and I think it really helps to drop in little things - potions, tanglefoot bags, thunderstones, the odd robe or cloak, gloves, musical instrument, random uncommon weapon. I thought that was what the chest was for. I didn't think it was for just dumping stuff you didn't need. As it is, the chest is full with useless stuff.
If you want to get rid of useless stuff, there's a trashcan right next to the chest!! That's what they're there for, surely? The community chest is surely for small things that could be useful to new/other characters.

| on a side note, i have tried to put in some useful stuff but always get the message that the item in question is to valuable. a starting adventurer needs to get a few levels under his/her belt before alot of the useful items are equipable and by that time they wont be allowed to take anything from the chest anyway. but i will start filling it up with potions and cloaks and common gloves from now on. |

What! Nothing useful! Are you sure!? My gnome took out a nice fancy coloured wizard's robe last night. Much better than the woodsman clothing I forgot to change when I created him.
But, you're probably right. I'll do some fixing up tonight and get all that crap out of there. |

A most needed fix no doubt. People dont really realise what the chest is there for... I think one should think if they were the ones coming in with a new char, that item would be of use...
Well done. |

And the problem is that when I have taken the time to fill it with useful items, people then take the mickey and take out as much as they possibly can to sell it on.
It's a shame that a few idiots are spoiling it for the majority of players. |

| I thought it was changed so you could only take out a few items? Or am I mistaken here? |

| Cant we make it so that you can only drop items in 4 Winds Inn, and take items in introduction only? Limited to X items... I think this would help..or maybe not.. |

Re: Be Warned Posted: 03 Nov 2005 05:12 PM |
Problem with that is, if you're unlucky and make your character just after a reset/when there's nothing there, you lose out.
It would just be nice if people could respect the intention of putting the community chest there in the first place. I don't think any of my characters have anything that's worth more than 1000gp, but there are a ton of useful things that fall under that amount - exotic/rare types of weapons, gloves that give boosts to skills, varied outfits, potions, healing kits, scrolls.... etc.
I think there is a limit of 4-6 items per time that you can take out, but people still take stuff they don't even need, I think, just to sell it on. |

Re: Be Warned Posted: 03 Nov 2005 05:19 PM |
i think it should be limited to level 1 and to a certain amount of items periode.
this is something to give some starting gear to chars, and to make them diferent.
I think Dyes for example should be in there permanently, so that people could make their chars original from the start, but maybe this has its pros and cons |

I discovered the community chest a bit late, and it was like opening the Arch of the Covenant in Indiana Jones.
Pages and pages of dye! Beautiful, beautiful dyes! No pink, but oh well.
I noticed that taking from the CC doesn't seem to take into account giving back to it. I did a lot of exchanging of items - taking a dye, deciding it was the wrong color, and putting it back for a new one - and eventually I got to my maximum number of takable items. Still, I ended up with a nice set of thieve's tools, healing kits and two dye bottles, so I can't complain overly much. It just struck me as pooty 'cause...well...I mean it's free dye! For my fabulosity! |

In the year I've played I don' think I've ever taken anything from the chest except right after generating a new pc.... and have often contributed items to the chest... Most were little things that might help a new pc.
but since it's per reset ... perhaps

Re: Be Warned Posted: 28 May 2006 01:52 AM |
The real problem is that there's no real incentive for people to put valuable items in the community chest.
I guarantee if you gave out just one experience for each hundred gold worth of items donated, or a good point for every ten thousand gold, or something, that thing would fill up pretty dang fast. |

Not sure how much of a problem it is, since every time I have tried to put something in the chest, it tells me it's full.

Re: Be Warned Posted: 28 May 2006 02:44 AM |
Really- low level characters who -can- remove such items(1000+ GP) probably could not wear them anyway.. Once you reach a certain level you cannot remove items from that chest.
and then if you sold it you wouldn't even get what it's worth.
And yes it is pretty much full all the time... |

Re: Be Warned Posted: 28 May 2006 07:02 AM |
I had to put a cap in the number of objects stored.
People were filling it up with worthless junk and it was causing the server to TMI when it was opened and closed.
Now, it is prefilled with useful things per reset and I only save a small amount of it.
