Consequences II - Itarillë Telemnar Posted: 28 Aug 2005 04:03 PM |
In a daze, Liana pushed herself shakily to her feet and ran to the temple grove, relieved to find that all seemed unchanged after the cataclysm that had just occurred. The statues still stood, the stags, though looking as stunned as she felt, still lived.
Had she not witnessed what had happened with her own voice, felt the raw energy unleashed, heard the voices crying out for an end, then as she surveyed her charge she would scarcely believe anything had happened at all.
A movement close to the golden harp caught her eye and she gave a quiet exclamation of surprise as she spied the cloaked figure rising to its feet. Liana watched, dismayed as the figure turned at the sound and stared at her.
“V..Vmaaanelvla sister,” stammered Liana, surprised at finding anybody here at all since to her knowledge none had passed recently, “you are well? Unharmed?”
The woman’s brow creased in thought, as she looked around herself, seemingly as surprised as Liana to find that she was here, seeming also at the same time to be searching her memory.
“Aala,” she said at last, “I am well. Who might you be?”
As her eyebrows arched up in surprise Liana studied the elven woman before her, taking in the strangely formed armour, the unfamiliar bow. “I am Liana,” she answered, “High Priestess of Aros and custodian of the temple here. Forgive me, but I do not recognise you, might I know your name also?”
Once more the woman’s brow creased in thought, as she appeared to be searching through countless memories, “I am Itarillë,” she answered at last, “yes… that is my name, Itarillë Telemnar.” She nodded silently to herself as if confirming it in her own mind as well as to the Priestess.
Now totally bemused not only by what had so recently happened, but also by the woman’s answers and demeanour, Liana paused for a few moments looking at Itarillë, who was still looking curiously at her surroundings. “I do not understand,” said the Priestess, “how do you come to be here? Why are you here?”
Itarillë turned then to look at her, studying her as she had herself been examined, “I do not know,” she said, as she began to walk past towards the entrance.
“Wait!” Called Liana at the departing figure, “Where are you going?”
Itarillë paused and slowly turned to look at her once more, apparently carefully considering her words before speaking. Then she turned and began to walk once more, her soft answer drifting back to the confused priestess.
“To find out…” |
