Gwar Sputnik...Guyver bodyguard
Posted: 18 Aug 2005 04:37 PM
He stood behind the tree near the door of Doc McGillicutty's, confusion softening the permanent grimace that seemed an integral part of his large oafish face. Passersby looked at the strange sight of a half orc, thrice the breadth of the tree, yet trying to hide behind it, with bemusement that turned to trepedation as alow rumble emitted from his chest.

A part of him grunted at him to go in, but another part frowned on this. He was just a big, ugly, half orc that made people uncomfortable. He didn't want that. Out here he could guard the pretty lady and not cause any grief. He nodded to himself resolutely. Someone who didn't know better might think that the large fellow was quite smitten with the little red head. They would be sadly mistaken, however, by reason of the sheer impossibility of the task for one such as Gwar. One cannot feel what one has never known...

Few knew, probably because few cared to know, that the constant battle between human and orc over the centuries had created a small refuse bin of creatures hidden deep in the mountains around Midor. Placed conveniently far from civilization, so that past indescretions could be forgotten. Mother Sputnik never spoke much of the four years she spent in slavery, her pure orc blood too proud to admit pain or anguish. Instead she spent her time and energies raising her boys in a way as close to orcish tradition as she could remember it before she and her ill gotten offspring were cast from the clan in shame. She was hard on the boys, but particularly Gwar. While ZigZig exhibited a certain carefree attitude that would help him handle the difficulty and shame of being a halfbreed. Gwars' introverted behavior worried her. So she put him through the orcish rituals of pain many times to at least toughen his skin if she could not steel his mind.
From the time he had entered the world, in a dirty cage, small children poking at him with curious sticks through the bars, he had only known three faces.

Anger...his mother whipping him and shouting as he walked over the coals, her dissapointment burning hotter than his blistered feet.

Hatred...the men in metal, with their symbols of piety, refusing to acknowledge the obvious, that a part of them flowed in his very veins, or the full blood orcs, charging him weapons drawn, the shamans spurring them on with shouts of "abomination!"

Fearful Revulsion...the pretty people of the world looking at him with those eyes that wanted to be anywhere but here.

Mother Sputnik had sent him to find and protect her beloved ZigZig, and so he did, without question. If anything, he knew his place in this world, and he accepted it as truth. Mother had been sure to remind him of it constantly. He was, what some of the more cras adventurers he had met called a "meat shield". Someone Someone who crunched the foe, and took a crunching in return, so that those more important, and more deserving could safely dispatch the enemy from a distance, or make their escape if need be. He was the one who's pain didn't matter, and, it didn't. This was all he was, all he knew until...

"Tha pritty ladyz", he whispered, almost in awe, looking to the door of the inn again. She had not cringed away from him, she had even smiled at him. HIM. Ugly, worthless, stupid, meat shield Gwar.He sighed, the semblance of a wan smile altering the perpetual frown that was his face.

Yes. Thoughts of love were impossible for one who had no clue what it was. (he looked down at a commoner looking up at him with fearful curiosity, and growled softly) But he had an intense need to make sure she didn't get crunched, and he would fulfill it. After all he was...

He slammed his fist into his chest with a loud bang, and frowned slightly as the commoner gasped and ran away, a dark stain spreading down his trousers.

"GWAR!"

Meet piez good

The sound of the front door of the guyver store opening jerked him from the daydream he was having about the little redhead he hadn't seen in so long. Surely she had more important things to do than to visit a half orc, but there was a strange ache above his grumbling tummy just the same. He raised his axe and shield and stood at attention as he had seen the city guards do. Zigzig chuckled at this earning a frown from his older brother.

Zigzig's chuckles turned to silent suprise as a black clad halfling with an ugly scarred face, walked around the corner with a large package under each arm.

"Oi fella's", the little man said with a sad lilt in his voice," sorry it took so long, but 'ere's yer meet pies."

The two half orcs just stood there, mouths agape as the guyver dropped the packages unceremoniously and turned on his heels, walking to the apartment.

Gwar looked to his brother eyes wide as they both shouted in unison,

"YUS!"

It is to the benefit of meat pies in general that they have no cognition whatsoever, for the attack was swift, brutal, and quite mercilessly grizzly.

Gwar looked to Zigzig over a mouthful of pie.

"Gooda! Now mizzuz Cora not be sad anymore yus?"

Zigzig burped in response, there wasn't enough time for a more distinct dialogue, as a large, rude hand shoved another pie to its doom.

New Beginningz

Gwar Sputnik left the Icy Vale Inn with a strange smile on his ugly face. How had the master tracked him down? He shook his head with a grunt. The ways of the master weren't his to concider. At least now he had something to do. Something more positive than feigning furtive strikes into the Gladden to try in vain to help his kinsmen. The only thought that slowed his steps was how to tell his little brother Zigzig that their mother was dead. Somehow he knew the news would be harder on his much softer brother. He had tried so often to make him understand the Orclun only existed to fight and die so better people might live, but it was useless. Little Zigzig had always been more human than orc.

"Oh wellz." he shrugged

He had a mission, it was time to go back to Port Royal and find Hezekiah's Breath and join them so he could get the master the information he wanted. This promised to be interesting concidering all he had done before this was fight and bleed. Hopefully he would be lucky and there would be some of that too.
