Heya Pdiddy just wanted to know if it was possible for the BH to flex a little bit of its influence in stalling the opening of Hans's shop. Mainly because he was caught spying on Jessup. This of course didnt please Jess or the other party involved. Sir Lothar(AKA Hans) seems to feel that Jessup is a incompetent fool and has voiced his opinion on this out loud. Well god forbid i resort to violence....which as you know i appaul, i was wondering if i could perhaps delay the building of his shop for some time until he comes to terms with Jessup. anyways if thats not possible i suppose i could just kill him. :)

Heh.

I think that can be arranged. I'll be sure to let him know that there are problems with the builders. Do you want to get him a heads up IG in an IC fashion about the effects of crossing the hand? You know.. something like "when will your shop be open? I hope it is soon, but you can never tell..." that kind of thing.

I'll ding you some gold for the proper bribes, of course.

Personally, I would prefer the stalling over the out and out killing. After all, any thick headed fool can kill, but to inflict true pain and suffering requires real skill

I love this idea. It seems like a nice non-direct PvP solution.

Ok, Tasra's shop has been opened in spite of the stalling.

I've taken the liberty of doing some dirty work in the name of the black hand.

1/ The contractors left gaps in places to allow the passage of rats throughout his building

2/ Since Jessup can talk to animals, I've had him entice the rats into his place with food and promises of more food. Lots of rats... hundreds, and more coming every day.

3/ As a result, his place is filling up with rat droppings, and the bodies of those that get killed.

Also...

Hans could not resist his better nature and murdered a man in the sewers. I had the archeologist gnome stumble upon Hans throwing the body deeper into the sewer, and he ran off screaming murderer.

The Gnome has since reported the murder.

Since they had encountered an excrement elemental, they were covered in filth and made a rather conspicious exit from the sewers straight to the bath house. The bath house manager overheard their conversation about the one killed in the sewers. He also has his name. He is going to sell this information to the Black Hand in exchange for a greatly reduced protection fee since he knows this information may be of value to Hans.

I've served Hans a summons to the Queens court. Without collaboration of the bath manager, there is not enough to prosecute him unless he opens his mouth and admits it. With the testimony of the bath manager, they can convict him most solidly.

(In port, it means a huge fine)

Just FYI.

Just keeping you informed of the situation.

A meeting took place between Sir Lothar and Jessup. An agreement was reached between them. He would abide by the laws of the Port...the underground laws that is. As well as let Jessup sell some of his stolen goods in the Harpy. Sir Lothar has requested the aid of the Hand in two situations...which we would like to take adavantage of....monatarily speaking. The first being the court date of Sir Lothar who is going to trial for the murder of a sewer worker. The Hand has agreed to help him in this situation. We of course will bribe the proper officials...Sir lothar will pay Nico....with an nicely added bonus that Sir Lothar is unawre of. In retrn the charges will be dropped. Second...sir Lothar wishes to have some paperwork forged that he is truly a knight and has been over the past decade. It was explained to him that this might be possible...but it would bring a hefty price. He replied that he had enough gold at his disposal....we shall see.

If this is possible could i get a price on both requests. Naturally ill add my cut on top of it....about double *evil cackle*. In any event if this is doable let me know.

Thanks Diddy.

P.S. I told Lothar that the rat smell would be taken care of by next week.

Re: DMs: Chief: Stall Tactics

What I envisaged happening was:

The architect gnome in the sewers, having witnessed the murder would have the charges brought against "Sir Lothar". The gnome had also rescued the murder victim (thats why he is still in the sewers) and because he is such a predominant citizen, for his important work in mapping the ruins beneath Port, the Port Royale Temple gave him a discount.

So, the murder victim lives, but does not know the name of his attackers.

The man who runs the bathhouse knows who they are, and knows the names of three matching the description of the murders. The fact they were covered in an ex-excrement elemental helped them stand out in his mind.

1/ a public post on the upcoming murder trial

2/ The bathhouse manager would go to the hand with the information. In return for concessions, he would give them the information, even testifying if they wish.

3/ At the trial, I planned to put Sir Lothar on the spot. First to address the murder and a lesson on how responsible business owners in Port should never blah blah blah.. the second is the title of "Sir" which they can find no record of and that under no circumstances was he to use the title "Sir" in Port.

4/ Assuming that Jess didnt turn him in, he would be fined a huge amount of gold, given that the victim was rude but now lives again. Some of hte gold would be given to the gnome Archeologist/architect, some to the victim and the rest to the courts.

Now...

Would someone like to finish this one up and run it the way they would like to?

As for the knighthood.... corruption is a wonderful thing. At most, have some official take the gold from Jessup and only do a very limited job that wont stand up to actual scrutiny if someone wants to look into it. And make sure it costs. Best idea for Jessup is to have the official come back three times for more "squeeze".

Also....

As a heads up, Jessup and Johe were talking IG about putting a squeeze on the Port Royale temple. If this ever happens, the Temple will be *VERY* Vocal about what is happening to them and will provide *NO* services of any kind given the *HARSH* abuse from certain "prominent* citizens of the port.

Give them a couple of days to realize the whole city is turning against them. No one messes with the Priests/Priestesses. If they immediately turn around and beg forgiveness for a "Misunderstanding" and a lot of gold to assuage hurt feelings, they will be forgiven, but any rezzes of them or their associates will cost double from that point on.

If they do not, IG wise, things will go from bad to worse from them in a series of escalating problems - vandalism, jobs going bad, people not hiring them, people in the streets hurling verbal abuse, buisness going sour...

If they still do not get the hint, their shops should be burned down and they should be run out of Port.

*No one* messess with the Port Royale Priestesses.

Just fyi, whilst I partially agree with paul's vision of the priestesses in Port, I think he is assigning a bit too much power to them, and a bit too little to the hand. And I have played the priestesses in the past as willing to make minor concessions to Jessup to stay on his good side. Which may have encouraged this.

The Hand, having seen off the masks, are actually the prominent criminal organisation in Port. By quite some way. The priestesses would not want a confrontation with them. As such I think a diplomatic solution could be reached. That lets the PCs actually enjoy some of the prestige they have after all earnt. Without walking all over the priestesses.

I would be happy to deal with this aspect, would give me a chance to play Jerome as a noble intervening in the squabble. Sol is down as responsible for Port Royale, but the masks, hand and the like I enjoy playing if that's alright with people?

Cheers,

Sean

The reason I would give the temple such power is that they literally have the power over life and death.

If they were to stop their curing, their healing and their live saving activities, how long would it be before the people most affected by it would seek revenge against those who caused the problems in the first place? And, at last count, there is a lot more of them then there is in the hand.

This does not even count the effect that the nobles might have should they be affected by it.

No, I would say they have nothing to fear from someone overreaching their boundries.

Just something to keep in mind.

Heh. You locked your last post. Wanted the last word eh!? *grins*

Anyway, yea like I said before, I partially agree. Just think for me it comes down to recognising the power of -both- groups, and finding a solution the players will enjoy without actually getting what they want. Which I have some ideas for, so no worries.

I just dont think the priestesses could be guaranteed to treat the hand with complete lack of concern, and the hand be forced to take it. And most people in the Port would be very reluctant to mess with the hand unless they REALLY had to.

It will be interesting to see this play out anyway.

Heh. Actually, glad you asked that. Meant to mention in my first post, I would really like to decide, amongst the DMs at least, who they do follow.

And Menarok is definitely an option. Anyone have any thoughts?

Considering how they've squeezed every advantage from their position and have exploited PCs in the past mercilessly and ruthlessly... not to mention their proximity to the Black Pearl (heck, I wouldn't be surprised if they own the place secretly)... I'd go with Menarok.

Having said that, I think I asked Sol the same question a while back and she said one of the neutral gods (Theus or Vas) was who they worshipped, if push came to shove and someone actually asked. Then again, they've become far more mercenary these days, who's to say that they haven't come under new management?

I think Sol's response was based on them being the most likely to heal anyone for a price, without caring about ethos. And based on us as DMs having never actually really decided.

But maybe Nu'men realised after the auction that he might have need of gold for dealing with the surface races, so has indeed moved in. So the priest there are a mix of maybe Vas worshippers, led by a select few Menarokians who have slain the old leaders and taken their forms?
