RP XP and location

Ok, this post is in no way done out of anger
Just slight frustration. And mild amusement.
I had some issues not to long ago, about running into the problem of getting little to no XP anymore for skills use, and not being able to kill things solo… yada yada yada, I had gotten too focused on getting the next level, and RP was just kind of an aside half the time.
Because of some great replies to my rant that I posted when I hit that XP wall, I was inspired to make the conscious effort to focus on the RP... and just let the XP come in its time.
And I think I have been pretty successful. I have been immensely enjoying how my character has been developing through recent events. And didn't even mind that much when I died and had to respawn recently... because the circumstances surrounding that made for some great storytelling, and character development.
It is still nice to get XP. I just try not to worry about it.
But you can probably imagine what I felt when I had been engaged in some great RP today, and then had to go afk, so I went to the lounge, and right before I was about to go back into the world... I get hit with RP XP.
Which of course, gets taken away again as I go through the portal to return to Vives.
Its like someone gave me a piece of candy as a reward for doing something good, and then right away, someone else came up behind me, slapped my hand and knocked my candy into a pile of manure.
As I said... frustrating.
To whomever gave me the RP XP, thank you for that. At least I know that my RP was recognized, and deemed worthy of reward.
But to all DM’s... please please please make sure someone isn’t in the lounge when you hit em with the XP stick. :)
Again. I don’t want this taken the wrong way, I’m not upset, or looking to get that back.
Just a tad frustrated and slightly amused at the irony... and hoping to spare anyone else that feeling of getting their reward taken away in the future.

*sigh* I meant well, I really did... but I hardly ever get in to DM and I had no idea the xp stick didn't work in the OOC lounge.
I'd been IG as a PC a bit earlier and we can't hand out xp when we are PCs, so I came back in and you were in the lounge.
I'll have one of the other DMs give you xp IG!

Bah, and I was just about to give him a 200K xp reward...
Put into that perspective, its a whole lot funnier.
DMs... *shakes head with a bemused smile* I understand them about as well as I understand women ;)
ok... maybe its not THAT extreme *smirks*
though, that does make me wonder about the game taking the XP back if you were to say.. get bonked with 200K in the lounge, and then leveled before exiting. because I DID once go to the lounge to level my PC, and found that that works just fine... (but then, I had the XP for the level on entering, so should only make sense that that should work eh?)

I was just wondering if as a DM you were able to throw XP at a PC without being in the same area... cause then you wouldnt know where they were... or maybe you do. I have no idea really. I've never really messed with the DM client

Nothing will ever beat Calvin and Hobbes, but my other favorites were always the Far Side and Foxtrot.
As far as less-popular comics, Frumpy the Clown is tremendous quality, as is Big Nate Comics.
And for Web Comics, I read 8-Bit Theatre, Penny Arcade, User Friendly, and VG Cats regularly. |
