IRC Behavior Posted: 23 Aug 2003 11:39 AM |
Lately the staff has been approached several times regarding what they felt was inappropriate or offensive behavior in our IRC channel. Toward that end, I think we need to have a dialogue on how we want to conduct ourselves in there.
Mind you, I'm all about free speech, but still, #Vives is often the first place new players get to see us, and we don't want to run them off. So, I'm proposing a set of guidelines here.
These are the things that we consider inappropriate, and should not be appearing in our favorite channel...
Extended discussions of sexual topics in a vulgar or explicit manner: The occasional risque or flirty comment is ok, but please keep in mind that some folks are offended by such things, particularly when they become degrading. We want Vives to be a friendly place for all genders and ages of good RP types. If you want to be explicit or vulgar, take it to another channel, please.
References to sexual orientations of others: The only person's sexual orientation you should ever refer to is your own. Any references to sexual orientation in a derogatory manner is not permitted, no matter who they are directed towards.
Discussions of how to exploit game mechanics or the scripting systems employed in Vives. Exploits and bugs should be reported via PM to a staff member for action. Do not post them in plain view for folks to rush in and exploit them before they are fixed.
Metagaming. This includes telling players where to meet you, begging for resurrection, and all those other meta things that allow the use of ooc information to benefit players IG. Exception: If you are killed or stuck because of a server bug, report it directly to a DM for intervention.
Remember, often the first impression players receive of us is through our IRC channel. If we want to attract quality people to play in our world, we need to behave as quality people ourselves. This list may expand, but it's our desire to not have to expand it. We're grownups here, and should not need to be told how to conduct ourselves. Thanks for your attention here. |
