Memoirs from The Book
Posted: 20 Mar 2005 07:12 PM
I heard the front door swing open, he was home again, another "luxurious" night out. I heard some fumbling around and wondered if his friend was the one to drag his arse home this time.

"Hey! Boy, yous there!?"

'Bloody hell' I thought to myself. I knew he could be heard from at least two doors down. No matter how much i pray, in spite of all my efforts thus far, he just keeps coming back and now here he comes again.

'Bang... Bang... bang...'

I laughed to myself as I imagined the last pound on the door coming from his head as he tripped over his own stupid drunken feet.

"Hey Boy! I can hears yas in ther, you bester not be playing with them tricks of yers agen!"

I heard the door nob rattle and then a sharp shout of pain, Blast i forgot about that. Now Im really in for it.

"Oi!, Now thats it Boy, yous gonna gets it! Unlock this blasted door or il knock i'down! Ya hears that, you knows i will Boy!"

I shuddered at the thought of my very near future and got to my feet. I grabbed The Book off of my desk and quickly shoved it under my bed, or in actuallity my padded bench because a bed was a little too nice for a creature of my nature. I turned to the door and tried to take a step closer but my fear of that drunken beast behind it froze my feet where they were. I tried to relax a little, better now then later. I knew what was going to happen and i knew that there was also no stopping it.

"I can hears ya fumbling around in there Boy! Unlock this damned door NOW!"

I managed to force my legs to move me over to the door and raised my hand to a small switch near my lamp. I turned the switch off and a light zap noise went off. I stepped back and watched as my Father peaked through the now slightly open door.

"There yous are Boy, you know bettered then to try to fight back don't'chya. Good"

Then came the first swing of the night, I hit the floor knowing that wouldnt be the last.

((I actually read this with trepidation hoping for the boy that there was a different ending. Nicely written.

Finally it has happened, after months of seraching ive found someone who can help me. Maybe he could even help me with my father.... But i shalnt ask him, maybe a subtle nudge about. Heeheehee, ah yes finally I have found a tutor, some one who can hopefully aid me in these arts of the magic. He saw The Book and was quite pleased with my workings thus far. He seems to only really practice in the white arts though, of course at my great dissapointment, but im sure there is something useful i can learn from this human.

'Knock knock knock'

"Hey Boy! You in there, youd best get to yer chores soon ya here..... Do ya hear me, ya little pointed eared Feak!"

".... yes father, il get right on them, right away..."

Soon you'll have what youve been searching for my father.... you and Her will both pay dearly.

Night has fallen, owls are on the hunt about the outskirts, a city still bustles about, and a young Boy dreams of the things he desires in an all consuming hate.

Again... I open my eyes to this "world"...
Again... I see her face... I know what you've done...
I try to turn away and there He is, so joyful... how could this be the man who has raised me...
He's happy, he's complete... as is she...
But I know the truth...
It was you... Elf witch, you that has cast this curse of a life upon me...
and you... my Father... it is cause of you i feel this misery... your misery...
She was the one who bestowed me with this man... he was only the tool to be used...
NO...
That look... that great look of JOY... You have no idea what you've done... what you've brought upon your very creation... for I am not your child... i child is loved...
I will bring the tears down your face... you will see what you have created...
soon... oh so soon...

I’ve now explained to my tutor the problem I seem to have with my Father not allowing me to practice in the magics,he replied that he could talk to my Father and reassure him that it would be free of charge. I laughed lightly to myself when he assumed it would be about the money. I assured him that the money had nothing to do with it. However, I could not tell him what the reason was for my Father’s fear and loathing of the magics.
I told him that he couldn’t tell my Father a word about it, for if my Father knew I would get a beating beyond that of most orcish children. He nodded and gave me a single scroll that he told me wouldn’t harm my father but would allow for my studying, the rest was up to me.
I’ve added it to The Book and shall practice tonight until I get it right.

Amazing! It works, it really works. I have been trying this sleep spell on my cat and I have gotten it down perfectly. Soon my father will come home in his usual "condition" and it'll work on him too. Wait... I know just what to do. Heeheehee

A city in havoc as men from every nearby block runs to help put out the flame of this night. A Boy stands in awe watching the flames pierce the moonlit sky just as the sparkles of heaven did before. He stands their holding his cat, softly patting its head to bring it to a calm whilst the town busies itself with what is left of his old home. A man quickly approaches the Boy and roughly jerks the Boy around to face him.

"What's going on here?! You... You didn't do this... did you?"

"You must understand my lord, twas an accident. I didn't mean fo.."

"What happened?! Your father?!"

"Yes... he's..." a tear stolls down the Boy's ruby cheeks as the child begins to weep.

"My god... What have I done?" the man runs his hands through his hair as he contemplates what to do next. He grabs the Boy, pulling him close and strokes the child’s hair. "This is not your fault my lad... I should have known better then to place such magics in a novice's hands. I'm sorry..." the man tries to calm the Boy and gently rubs his back. "I'm so sorry my lad..."

The Boy looks up towards this kind and gentle man "I'm goin to be put away aren't I? The guards, they'll take me away somewheres. Ohh, what am I to do my lord?"

"It'll be fine my lad, everything will be fine. I'll have everything sorted out. It'll be ok..."

A mockery of the Just followed that night, and a man bringing upon his own doom.

Seven years later,

A young man sits in a moonlit study scribing the recipes of that nights lesson and their following potions. He finishes the last scroll and tucks it away with the others in The Book. Just as he finishes tidying His desk a mans voice is heard uttering a few pleasantries and then a goodbye a few rooms away. Rage boils in the young mans mind and just as he was about to release his anger on all the house a pleasant, smiling man enters his study.

“So my lad, how’s my young Half-Breed doing this fine night?”

At the sound of this title the man grinds His teeth as hard as they could possibly handle without his masters notice,

"I see you're done this nights study? Ah, good show then my boy, shall we reap from tonights teachings, a fine elven wine? Naturally your favorite, tis not?"

The young half-elf rubs his fingers up a pointed ear and remarks as nicely as his cold heart allows "of course Master Smaredrum, nothing could satisfy my thirsts better" a near pleasant smile grows upon this mans face as his master leaves the room.

A little later that night,

A raging thought runs its course as a nearly adult half-elf paces across his room.
'Half-breed... HALF-BREED! Always this dispicable relation to those Monsters! My study hear and tolerance of this fool has gone on long enough! I must find a way... I will find a way! I am nearly sorry my master but you must be distinguished, your ignorance with those abominations will be paid in full! But how... How am I to find such power against this man, his refusal to teach me anything of good use... ahhh WHY MEEE!!??'

Just then a light flashed over the young man's room, so bright it forced his eyes to close. He ducked down and crawled backwards across his floor to find security of a wall behind him and then darkness…

The light had completely distinguished and his room, it seemed, with it. He slowly opened his eyes fearing what would come next and attempted to glance around. Even with his half-elven ability to see past darkness he was blind.

“Ahhhhh, Noooo!” screamed the young man, “What is THIS, What’s happening!?”

The ground which the young man was crouching on in fear suddenly began to glow a deep red in the shape of a four pointed star and a crackly, old, dark voice began to whisper from all directions…

“You are the dagger… Revenge is sought… Despair will be brought… Bring the pain… upon this you claim…”

Over and over again, this phrase repeated around him consuming his mind. Fear and rage boiled over inside the young man until he could no longer hold it back. A blast came from the young man’s hands and another following it. Arcane blasts followed again and again, each blindly being fired into the eternal darkness. It seemed to go on forever to the young man standing in the middle of the star until his body could no longer put out. He collapsed to his kness, the darkness still ongoing with its relentless rhymes. He began to sob out of complete despair and only then did the whispering quit. He looked up from His pathetic position and saw a brief flicker of light ahead, then the room he had once been in revealed itself, but it was no longer any room. The young man found himself to be in the center of a dimly lit cave, lit only from the glowing of a strange fungi which scarcely covered the walls. He glanced around at his new surroundings and noticed a path trailing off to another cave. He heard a footstep from there, slight though, followed slowly by another. An elderly man covered in a long browned cloak could be now seen approaching from the distance. The young half -elf just watched in fear as this old croak who seemed to posses monumental power approached.

A flash of light burst the room followed by an intense burning feeling over the young man’s skin, as if it were being boiled off in a giants stew. The man collapsed under the pain and began tearing at the floor with his bare hands. He could feel His nails breaking off under his writhing and he quickly glanced up to the direction of the old man. Suddenly the man who seemed to be a good sixty yards away was now right above the him.

“Please, stop this, I have done nothing to YOU!” the man screamed in pain.

“No…” the old croak uttered as the pain remained, “This is what you will cause,” he went on, ”this is the pain you will bring upon your true enemies. If you are to aquire my assistance..." The elder muttered as the young man kept pleading at his feet for mercy.

“Yes! I tell you! YES, just let me be, free me of this torture!” The half-breed cried out.

At that the pain almost instantly subsided to a light tingling sensation.

“You will forever be branded then!” an amazingly great voice boomed from the old man, “you will forever feel this torment which you will one day relinquish on another, it will come and pass as you are reminded by it of your duty. Do you understand?”

He nodded still groveling at this great force’s feet pleading “Yes! I understand!” a slight hesitation came before he could go on, “But… I am not powerful enough for This. They do not teach me what needs to be taught. How am I to learn such power?!”

The mighty voice boomed again “Search for it! Deal with what needs to be dealt and then… Then you search for the power to enforce your hate! Now you must re-enter your world, think but tell no one of our dealings. When it is time to act I will return.”

With that the young Man awoke curled up on his floor. Still feeling the tingling sensation of this bizarre hallucination.
