The story of Jade Night Posted: 09 Aug 2003 12:26 PM |
** At a Glance
Jade is a young female halfling, with a slender build. She stands with a graceful pose as she scans her surroundings with curious green eyes.
** Personality
Curiosity killed the cat... fortunately... Jade has been lucky, despite being easily excited when seeing or hearing about new things. She likes to stretch the truth, greatly over-exaggerating, especially when she is talking about one of her misadventures. Following her tendency to stretch the truth, she likes to give important sounding titles to herself and those people that she holds dear. More than one warrior or priest has been "knighted" by her. Her flights of fancy have landed her in many uncomfortable situations, because she tends to quickly leap to wild and totally unfounded conclusions from things that she hears.
** Family, Relationships & History
Jade is from Brandibuck Vale, where she grew up in a comfortable home of a Jeweler. She is the youngest of three daughters… all being named after gems: Sapphire, Ruby and of course Jade. Greatly concerned for her well-being, her parents have repeatedly warned her about her curiosity... and it is assured that they would disapprove for her homage to Kaldair Swiftfoot. However, her father beams with pride that at least one of his daughters has acquired his passion for jewelry. Despite favoring her over her sisters, her father has set Jade loose upon the world in an effort to "ground" her flights of fancy before he accepts her as his apprentice. Her oldest sister, Sapphire, resents Jade because of her father’s favoritism.
** Particular, Observable Quirks
Jade loves to be the center of attention and may sometimes try to start a new conversation as others are talking. She also has a peculiar habit of standing close to someone when she is talking to them. In her quest to be the center of attention, she seems to be oblivious to the consequence of her actions… although she never tries to cause harm or ill-will.
Jade craves apples. She will pick them up when she sees them… sometimes just taking them out of a farmer’s basket.
Finally, Jade has a significant fear of herself or others being eaten by large beasts. She will almost certainly bring up the mention of being eaten by something when someone asks her to go someplace dangerous. This fear has resulted in her becoming a fast runner and good at hiding.

The expulsion of Jade Night Posted: 15 Aug 2003 03:47 PM |
The quiet Halfling town of Brandibuck Vale is rocked from an explosion originating from a side room in the Night family residences. As a thick black smoke pours from the shattered window of the side room, a young redheaded female Halfling covered with black ashes climbs out and falls onto the ground. After a few moments, she sits up on her knees... coughing, then brushing her hair out of her eyes.
From inside the house, an older sounding voice yells "Jade Night… what have you done to my house?" After a few moments of silence, the front door to the Halfling Barrow opens and an older Halfling man comes stomping out yelling at Jade. "Young lady.. I've had enough of your dreams. You are not a wizard or an alchemist. You've read too many books and it's polluted your thoughts! What's next? Are you going to destroy my barrow? Destroy Brandibuck?? Our livelihood?" Jade looks up with tears cutting a trail on each of her soot-covered cheeks. "Father... I almost had it... it was sensitive recipe! A strange noise startled me and I accidentally bumped it. It was..." She is interrupted as her father starts another tirade. "Enough. You no longer live here... until you've quit living a fantasy! You are not a wizard and once you accept that, I will take you on as my apprentice as a Jeweler. Perhaps you should travel to Midor or Port Royale and see if a wizard will take you on as an Apprentice, which I doubt because you have the attention span of flea! I doubt I could even find a husband for you right now. You need to grow up!"
The older Halfling man paces around. Visibly trembling from his anger. Jade watches him as he paces, wiping her tears and not saying a word. Her father glances at her occasionally... with his stern face softening with each glance. Finally, he reaches down, offering her his hand and states "Come Jade... let's pack some things for your journey. I can't believe I'm saying this, but it will do you some good to see the world. Your room will be waiting for you whenever you return." The older man leads his daughter inside the Barrow.
From over the Barrow, a blonde female Halfling comes down with a little smile. Sapphire Night follows Jade and her father inside the Barrow.
