Useful Desktop Shortcuts! Posted: 22 Dec 2004 01:55 PM |
All you do is create a shortcut to your nwmain.exe on your desktop.
Then right click on it, select properties and in the target field put this:
C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\nwmain.exe +connect vives.dyndns.org:5121
Then hit apply and you're good to go! :)
No more annoying starting film etc, just straight through to the server ;)
- Ara
EDIT: This is especially useful as it avoids any issues you might have with any IP changes the server undergoes (for example the one that just occurred when we installed some new hardware about an hour ago :P)........ I recommend ALWAYS using vives.dyndns.org:5121 to connect via this method or otherwise (including the gamespy direct connect)........ this one will always connect you ;)

My version is not public domain. It includes several command line parameters that auto-kills PCs based on configurable criteria set in an .ini file (such as "KillAllPCsNamedAthroughZ = 1). I find it's a real time-saver.
However, Dens has previously posted a javascript that would work well for players. *searches for the links* I'll link to it here, when I find it.
[UPDATED: Cleverly hidden under "Essential Information" we have found Dens' script..

| If you have problems with logging in to servers in the server list, as I do for some reason, using the shortcut is a way around this. In fact, this is the only way I can connect to servers without constantly reinstalling NWN... |

| You could always use a direct connect utility such as XNWNConnect. It is VERY easy to use and helps cut down on lag from all of my experiences. Look for it on the Vault, it's there, and it is a good tool. |

Go to that address, it has the program that will let you conect directly to a server without having to create a batch file and the corresponding shortcuts. |

For anyone else who is having a similar problem to Carlton, I would guess that the issue is that you don't have Java installed. You can find Java here:

edit: Vives should consider putting an XNWN link on the home page. |

FWIW, XNWN gave me the same error yesterday that Carlton was getting (could not translate address).
Command line switch options Ara posted, the .js script from Dens, and the normal run of the mill defailt NWN shortcut through gamespy worked fine for me. |

Just to say, I'm finally using this script. Love the dated logs. |
