Adventuring Group, Anyone?
Posted: 11 Jul 2003 03:06 PM

Hello everyone. Arizzle is looking for adventurers to travel with regularly! Some rationale for this post follows:

As a player, I find it alot more fun to play with a group; and developing a rich, in-depth character only makes sense when there is someone to interact with on a regular basis -there's only so much you could do when all PC encounters belong to the 'first-sight' category! I also imagine having a group-based character would open many other avenues for character creation - the bold rogue-scout for the group, timid-wizards that can't travel on their own...

As a GM, I find it hard to run adventures for a disparate group that barely knows one another, or try to force together parties that have rivalling characters-ideologies/character-expectation. It is difficult to pull off a designed, pre-existing plot, as I simply cannot anticipate what party am I expecting. As a result I often decided against GM'ing, or pick on 'individuals' - and I really feel that the quests and plot can be richer, more meaningful, and ultimately more fun when ran with an adventuring group.

As an admin I'd personally like to see the structure of Vives steering away from a free-form 'persistent-world-style' and closer to a platform for nice, intimate, GM'ed multiplayer-play, like the ol' PnP sessions! I would like to see more GM'involvement as well, and suppose things that turns me off is likely to turn other GMs off as well. Also I feel that without having cohesive groups of adventurers that travel together and have, as a group, a continuous history, Episode One might be difficult to pull off ;)

--

Given the above, I'd like to try out a model to see whether it would work - that of a group designed a priori for group-play, instead of individual characters each designed to work 'alone'. 'Arizzle' is a freshly designed character looking for a semi-permanent group to travel with; while I'm thinking a nucleation point might be needed, I'm totally open to suggestion for creation of other characters. Follows are some information about her; if you're interested in travelling regularly and keeping in touch with her, post something similar below. If there's enough responses, I'd try to keep her 'individual' adventures to a minimum and maybe play only when the group is around. I'm usually on at between 8-12pm PST, and we can arrange maybe a regular time for those interested.

At a Glance

- human, female, 16 years old

- born and raised in Midor, aspiring to join the Order of Light

Physical Characteristics

- Dimunitive, frail figure (5'3", 95lbs - stats-wise 8 CON).

- Pale skin but with sanguine (rosy) complexion

- Dark-brown hair, shoulder-length, tied back carefully into a pony-tail. Green almond-shaped eyes

- Naturally Left-handed, with highly legible handwriting, every letter clearly visible - almost calligraphic quality. Prefers Longsword, as it is the preferred weapon of the Order. Trains and wields longsword in right hand, shield in left despite her natural tendencies n.b. traditionally this is done to better protect the heart.

- Her clothes are scanty and never in fashion, but impeccably clean and ordered (see her Personality below). Adorns a pair of red bracers on her biceps, and a silver necklace with the symbol of Midoran engraved. Prefers light-blue/pink/silver-ish clothing.

- intentionally light but careful makeup

- Speaks softly yet rapidly and accentuates her consonants; almost like a bird-chirping. Blushes easily.

- Moves with distinct grace and confidence; straight back, tall proud composure. Interspersed with powerful movements.

- Her natural facial expression is a dead-pan look of perfectionist restraint; her gingival smile, whenever it breaks out through the poker-faced visage, is a sight to behold! It is a sincerely radiant, captivating smile, a kind of sheepish smile, appearing like the sun breaking through the clouds, or of a Cheshire cat suddenly appearing in the mist.

Personality

- Arizzle is a quiet, friendly, sincere, somewhat sheepish introvert. She is polite, dependable, calm, careful, conscientious, considerate and cooperative. She's modest, pleasant and cheerfully reserved, even tho she has a dash of bashful quality. She is unselfish, tolerant and sympathetic - everything she should be.

- Arizzle has narcissistic ambition ("I will be glorious") but also perfectionistic qualities ("Do it well...") - she feels that she must do whatever her friends, family and society demand of her as a perfect person. She simply must try to do to the best of her ability what she feels she should do. And she feels that she should do everything. And do it perfectly. She is a prisoner of her own sense of duty, a quiet achiever but at the same time a prisoner of perfection.

- Lacking aggressive qualities, she is defenseless against aggressive types of personalities

- She loves on the basis of her narcissistic and perfectionist qualities. In particular, she loves because she should love, and she is tender because she should be tender. In fact, she will do anything that a devoted mate should do, simply because her inner nature tells her, "I deserve it to myself and to everyone that I should do everything perfectly." She tends not to "fall in love" easily because the decision to devote herself to a mate must be a perfect decision, and such a perfect decision, like all of her decisions, is not easily made on the spur of the moment.

- When things do go wrong, whether they are by any stretch of the imagination her fault or not, she blames herself for not having foreseen the difficulty. This may send her to the doldrums of a melancholic abject state for days or months, especially if the cause of the failure actually was some deficiency on her part.

- If she comes to perceive (or imagine) that she is being ignored, demeaned or insulted, then a single critical remark by just about anyone will unmask her usually well-camouflaged underlying vanity - she may burst forth in a diffusely-directed tantrum that will be sure to amaze onlookers.

- As the quiet, somewhat bashful person that she sometimes is, she surprises others when she mounts the podium as a public speaker. Somewhat stilted at the outset, she slowly gathers momentum and gradually become radiantly charismatic, especially if she is attempting to persuade her audience.

- Being unassertive, she finds it difficult to give clear-cut orders. Rather she expects that others will know what to do by her excellent example. She goes forth, and she expects others to follow. But, of course, as they often do not, she may have serious problems maintaining discipline. She cannot berate a subordinate, and she is the master of the short, two-sentence reprimand delivered in an almost apologetic manner.

- Arizzle is also persistent, obstinate, recalcitrant, and downright stubborn.

- In the final analysis, her lack of free will has a poignant quality. She may at heart be so innately sympathetic, so intrinsically devoid of evil... so "good", that it is almost pathetic to see her go through life, whatever her real accomplishments, a prisoner of her own demands on herself.

Family, Relationships & History

- Arizzle is an orphan who was taken sheltered by the clergy of Midoran, and begins her adventures as a result of leaving their care at the age of maturity. She does not know who/what her parents were.

- Her narcissistic qualities ("I will be glorious") led her onto a life of adventure and hopefully squireship in the Order. She does not foresee any future/consequences beyond that.

- Being a somewhat quiet individual who needs to make all decisions perfectly, she find it hard to make friends with people.

- She plays the flute, and is usually delighted in doing so for others despite what she initially expresses.

- Craves for anything sweet, but her need of perfect control over herself requests otherwise. Stolen some confections when she was 10 (under peer pressure), caught and is the thing that can get her to blush and rages when teased about.

- Keeps an inpeccable diary of her life.

Particular, Observable Quirks

- quietly obsessive about being perfectly clean and neat, smooths wrinkles on clothes while in conversation.

- obsessive about being 'proper' - never strays from the road, closing doors after she walks out, returning things where they should be.

- Has mood swings

- sincerely yet extremely (almost affectedly) polite, courteous, and well-mannered.

AD&D Statistics

Race: Human

Classes: Paladin(3)

Alignment: Lawful Good

Deity: Midoran

Age: 16

Portrait: See above. Part of our official Portrait pack.

Voiceset: Female, Playful

Statistics:
- Strength: 16
- Dexterity: 12
- Constitution: 8
- Wisdom: 12
- Intelligence: 14
- Charisma: 14

Favored Gear: Longsword - FullPlate - WingedHelm - TowerShield (everything a Paladin should be like)

Skills Allocation: Primarily on Discipline/Heal/Lore/Persuade/Taunt.

Arizzle will not be involved in any physical tradeskills (except maybe Enchanting if it fits with plot).

When a group is in place I'd probably play her as much/as little as to keep the stories intact and levels approximately the same. For in-character purposes, she frequents the Midor Temple and can be reached by 'leaving a message with the priest there' (e.g., if a group is indeed formed and looking for her to adventure, the story can be initiated via this contact)

Celendil

At a glance:

Male elf around 120 years of age ( currently born and rasied in Midor but I am thinking of changing that) Hes very Handsome and has Suave Smile. Charming he speaks with q Quite diginity beftting an elf

Physical Characteristics.
Very Handsome With a suave charming smile. He speaks with quite diginity befitting an elf.
Like most of his kind he is short and skinny.

More about Celendil: Polite and dignified, Celendil is genrally easy to get along with. He harbors no prejudices though he has been deveop[ing a distates for Halfings due to a few bad expereinces with them. He can be a tad short temper when annoyed and doesnt like to be badgered with questions. He absolutly detests stealing. nor however does he automatically respect authority for the sake of Authroity. Generally hes willing to trust someone until they prove themselves untrustworthy. Once proven untrustworthy Celendil will keep his distance and if angered become somewhat snyde and haughty

Not joining quite yet (not certain I can devote the time right nowSad), but if I may suggest, in the future it might be good to have a section like this on it's own in the Forums. An IG version, at least in the major cities might also be a good idea when Vives goes Prime Time. I'll recheck the Diety list and, if you're still short a cleric, I'll come up with one as best I can.

Jaina will probably end up following Tom if Tom asks Jaina. If in a group, though, she will look out more for Tom and herself, rather than the rest of her group, but still keep them in mind. She usually 'finds' a lot of healing kits and potions, so she will be one of the people you would turn to for healing. Her skills of breaking and entering are nearly unmatched, and can easily go where she is not wanted.

Jaina is in the same profession as Tom. She is ambidextrous, but prefers to use her right hand. She usually either holds a shortbow or a small bladed weapon (Shortsword or dagger).

She has brown hair kept in two little buns in the back of her head. She is of average hieght and weight for a halfling, and has slightly tanned skin. She is about 19 years old.

With the right motivation, she can be a great fighter, but prefers to stay back and hit the enemies with her arrows. She loves to explore (especially in places she isnt supposed to be in). She has quick hands and unless you get on her good side, you had better watch your pockets.

She was born in and raised in Brandibuck, but when she got older, she decided to 'splore' the world. She, like many halflings, found a liking in the arts of stealth and deception. Months later, she found a halfling named Tom. After a while, they eventually got married, and now 'splore' together, happily.

Roka Arrowsong

Neek Starnipple was out exploring for new woods to craft bows when he encountered the most wondrous sight. He watched the joining of Father Oak (Neek’s deity) and a vixen of the Great Forest. Several months had past and the product of this joining (a small elfin boy), was found by Neek along with a letter introducing Roka and asking Neek to take the boy in and teach him the ways of the world of Vives.
It was not long before Neek discovered that boy had a natural talent in wood working as well as skills of an archer, the likes of which has never been witnessed by Neek.

Roka has now grown into a fine strong young elf. He still has the impetuousness of youth and is easy to goad into a fight or be talked into doing things that could land him in trouble. As he grows, these adolescent traits are becoming less and less prominent.

Through hard work and guidance from his stepfather, Roka has now obtained the class of Arcane Archer level one

Physical Characteristics
Strong, tall and thin;
Tanned “seasoned” complexion;
Brown hair and eyes;
Clothes; comfortable and suited to a man of the forest
Very light on his feet as well as with his bow.

Personality
Voice deep, and sometimes gruff
Very trusting (at times a little too trusting especially to members of the opposite sex) and will work very hard to become accepted by a group;
Quick to anger if he feels he is being taken advantage of.
Most comfortable in a “non-city” environment.
Understands good from bad but still as a little trouble with it from time to time (can be mischievous).
Has taken on his stepfather’s ability for “puns” (usually at the wrong times)
Aspires to be a master bow crafter/ warrior like his stepfather (although he won’t admit it)

AD&D Statistics
Race: Elf
Classes: Fighter 6, Wizard 1, & Arcane Archer 1
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Deity: Father Oak (also prays to Solar)

Stats:
Strength: 16
Dexterity: 15
Constitution; 14
Wisdom: 13
Intelligence: 10
Charisma: 8

Favored gear: Primary: Mahogany Compound Longbow. Secondary: Long sword.
Armor: Chain mail & Tower Shield

An regular adventuring group is a great idea!

BTW, that is an excellent character background for Arizzle.

Unfortunately, my schedule isn't a great fit.

So, I will try to start another parallel group. There should be plenty of room for both us :). If you are interested in a once a week session, check out the link below.
