The tears of Elbereth
Posted: 10 Oct 2004 03:16 AM
In the sounds of the wind blowing through the forests; the leaves rustling and falling to the ground; the creatures of the wilds greeting the dawn with their cries; the patter of rain falling on the streets of the Port; the hunting call of the birds flying high over the deserts; the crack of a prowling bears talon on ice; in all these sounds and a thousand thousand others a whisper can be heard, a whisper that can only be understood by those that truly hold the Mother close to their heart. A sighing, mournful whisper...

"She has fallen, she has turned, and the tears are stolen. Beware my children, for my suffering is about to be turned on all that live. Find the tears, before it is too late."

The whisper is repeated again and again, across the land, never varying, never changing, and always filled with such terrible sadness...

((anyone investigating at the cavern of sorrows or similar such places of worship to Elbereth can easily find out that four holy artifacts, gems that were formed by the eternal flowing of Elbereth's tears, were stolen last night. They could only have been stolen by an elf, druid or ranger or similar being with a close link to Elbereth, and who was not at that time truly dark of heart. Only true worshippers of Elbereth and druids can understand the above whisper, though any with a link to nature are aware something is really awry.))

Gasher began climbing the hill that would take him to his favorite camping site, the lake of the mothers tears. Filled with sadness by a dear friend who had lost their path, Gasher needed the comfort of meditation, the comforting sounds of the falling water, the comforting whispers of the mother herself within the winds.

Something this day was not right however, the whispers in the wind were not the normally comforting assurances of the mother. "My warrior , she has fallen, she has turned, and the tears are stolen. Beware my warrior, for my suffering is about to be turned on all that live. Find the tears before it is too late."

Jaw and eyes opening wide, Gasher shakes his head sadly. "Mother Elbereth the ones so foolish to do this they .. they don't understand what they do...They couldn't."

Finishing the climb to the lake Gasher kneels in prayer before the mother Elbereths statue.

"Mother of all life, the lands, the seas, and the skies. Grant me the wisdom to see the path intended me. Grant me the courage to stay my path even in the darkest of nights. And now more than ever before I pray you offer guidance to those who have lost their paths."

After several more moments Gasher rises slowly and climbs down the hill. Grim faced, he draws his blade and begins a new hunt.

~~~There stood Melphus....staring at his unfortunate handiwork....it has been 3 days since Hendal was turned to stone. Surely he would be flesh soon....as he polished off the bird droppings off Hendal's nose....a dark shadow slowly crept out over the trail.....the cawing of crows could be heard in the distance.....Melphus stroked his beard...gave one last wipe to Hendal...."Im afraid you ll have to wait dear boy....more grievious matters need attending to....i do hope the birds stay off of you a bit longer in my absence."
With that Melphus quickly shifted into a wolf....the shadow was going to get larger....much would be at stake...he quickly made his way to Elbereth's tower...it was there that he would begin his search for the Tears....
ONWARD AND UPWARD!
“Have you made your decision?” Gukathul asked her. Of course she wasn’t going to help the vampires, remembering the corruption of the tear that the vampire lord held.
“Another seeks the tears.” She felt compelled to tell him. “Though I do not know who. Only holy men and women may know the name.”
“There are worse things then being a werewolf.” He opened his palm and as she watched a small white crystal formed in his hand. She stared at it unbelieving. “I know what he did.”
The burning in her hands started, the pain and then the transformation. She came to herself exhausted and frightened, Chandler sitting at her side, Gukathul gone.
((OOC: best recalled without the log))
Shalee Windwalker.....wife of Chandler, Ranger, Cleric of Elbereth
Alianda - Change can happen.
Lara - half-elven Ranger, trying to reshape her life
Tia - Cleric of Vilyave
Coretta sat at a table in McGillicutty's Inn, a worn book held in her hands. She flipped through it idly, looking once more at the information she had found. Information that was fairly useless to her, in all honesty. She'd gone to the temple with it, looking for guidance, but hadn't found anyone to speak with, perhaps due to her fear that she would be recognized. She still didn't know what consequences there would be to her actions that day two years ago, if any. But...this seemed important to so many people.
She shook her head slightly, closing the book and putting it back in her pack. Elvalia had wanted to know...and she had been intimidated, even frightened, by the intensity of the elven womans green eyes as she tried to convince her to speak. But...the creature had said only other holy people. She wasn't sure what the creature had meant by it, but she knew what she had been taught. Holy people were Priests of Midoran, and Paladins, the warriors of Midoran himself. All others...well, she wasn't sure if she could tell them. And not sure wasn't a good enough answer, not when the lives of the others who were there were at stake. Standing slowly, she arranged her robes and picked up her pack. She'd have to go back to the temple, and at the very least pray over this decision.
A sense of growing unease is felt across the lands. Reports are spreading of a wide variety of strange phenomenon: children crying tears of blood; flowers that normally carry the sweetest of scents now exuding a stench of carrion; creatures that are normally placid and no threat to any suddenly driven beserk and attacking those they have no hope of truly harming; drinking water turning into dark brackish marsh water; clouds of insects swarming across the lands; graveyards filled with a sense of dread and horror for no apparent reason; all these incidents remain isolated and rare...but seem to be slowly spreading across the entirety of Vives.
All those who have a strong bond to Elbereth feel a growing corruption reaching out to every corner of Vives. There is a sense of a pressure mounting that will inevitably result in an explosion...your heart fills with dread to consider how that explosion will manifest. Anyone entering the area known as Elbereth's tears can feel that here is the cause...the very heart of whatever is going wrong across the lands.
((please do not cast damaging or dispelling spells upon the phenomenon that are currently in place at Elbereth's tears. From a game mechanics point of view they just might work! But they should not...by all means emote casting them but they are countered by a seemingly insurmountable force. Clouds of insects that are fireballed disperse and moments later are swarming ever thicker, etc, etc...sure you all get the idea! *grins* ))
The land screams, its cries reverberating through the very essence of every being to walk upon its surface. Night fell and the horror began. When would it end...would it end!?
Perpetual night holds sway upon the land, the dead walk in unheard of numbers, the sewers of the port have flooded and the docks are submerged in filth and the foulest of water.
Everywhere the carrion stench of the dead fills the air. Malevolent cries and the wailing of damned spirits ring forth with increasing regularity. The townsfolk of Vives gone into hiding...desperately praying the madness would end.
Would the darkness lift...that question could only be answered by a select few, those with the courage and the strength to walk the lands, and find the tears of Elbereth before it was too late...
((ooc please do not pick any locks to doors to shops and the like...consider those doors barricaded shut. And low level characters be wary out there...vives is far more dangerous than normal today. Meet up with folks asap. And good luck! Happy Halloween all!!! *grins*))
