New to Vives Posted: 31 Aug 2004 04:30 AM |
I just sent in an application, and am hoping that I am accepted. I have one question though, howed do I get into a Vives game? I, strangley, have seen no links to the actual mod, but I allready have the 4 hak packs. I hope to meet you all IG soon, but not having the mod and not knowing P/W etc. is stopping me from using my trial-time. |

First of all, welcome! :)
Second, the only thing you need to download are the hack packs. The mod is hosted on a server and so you connect to that rather than running the mod off your PC. Second, there is actually no password :)
What you want to do is load up NWN, select Multiplay and then go to Join Internet Game. Then rather than looking for the site on Gamespy, select Direct Connect and put the following IP number in: vives.dyndns.org Then hit OK and you'll be taken into the game.
I hope that helps :)

Thanks for the quick replies, I hope to see you in game. What is the best time to be IG? I mean when are the majority of people playing, I don't want to solo And I am surprised about the no module, but there you go, learn something new everyday. |

The last hack pack (the 80mgb one) is corrupt for me. so is the prtrait pack. I downloaded both again, no luck. the first 3 were fine, why does WinRAR say ""unexpected archive end"? (I think that's what it says...) |

Hi there
I am not sure about the hak problem - hopefully someone more technical can help you :S
As far as activity on the server goes, it seems from the times you are posting that you are from UK/Europe, which is good as there are quite a few players from the UK. Best times are generally weekends and evenings, but there is usually a handful of people around during the day too.
Welcome to Vives

Hmm, corrupt haks...
I've found that when that occurs the best thing to do is to swear at the PC and download them again I've had some weirdness like that in the past, so I'd say to try them again :)
And yep, we have a LOT of UK/Europe players. Weekends are the best, but night times after 9pm GMT are quite populated too :) |

Re: New to Vives Posted: 31 Aug 2004 09:10 AM |
*grins* Yeh, we gots lots of Mean timers around these days... I'm on pacific time, which means my main hours are between Midnight.. and ... 6:00 AM My time... this means I usually get to play during the Euro's Midday, When they get to play at the same time as the Asian Prime time... Basically the logic is... I don't sleep anyways, and this "Magic" 8 hours is when Sirac+Solitaire Team up with Pdwalker... Which is where most of my fun comes from these days..... Since they usually aren't on at the same time during any other time of the day... ((Except for those times when Pdwalker stays up until like 4:00 AM for Special campaigns) I squeeze my time in here. |

I will try downloading it again, but if that still doesn't work, If someone could send me the .exe un-zipped? It's just an Archive fault. IT's so big I think it quits down-loading before it's finished. It happened with the CEP aswell. 1/1 Good on app. |

Re: New to Vives Posted: 31 Aug 2004 06:01 PM |
It appears my thread on the adventure forum wasn't posted, so I'll ask here. I am in need of a group and/or task, for the right price that is. I will be lv. 1(obviously) Gnome Illusionist. I hope to be part of a group from the beggining, if possible. 97% yeah! I am not very charismatic or wise or even strong, but don't mind flaunting my superior intellect over others. I came to Port Raoyale after my father was murderd on one of his delivery runs. He said for me to do what he never could, and go and find a name for myself, and some gold, if the oppourtunity arose. I statred the study of illusions to protect my mother, for with a husband she was easy-pickings by muggers and charlatones. I ingnored enchanments, felling that ones mind is ones buisness, whuch I had no buisness interfearing with. I know very little damadging spells, always trying to avoid injuring anyone. |

Re: New to Vives Posted: 31 Aug 2004 07:41 PM |
I have deliberated my character, and think that it would be more fitting if he specialized in illusions, enchantments, and the other more subtle arts like (i think) Abjuration. He doen't use flashy spells like Isseac's Greater Missile storm or even magic missile, but decepts and tricks. I can't beleive all the posts, but Im juts trying to flesh-out my character. I havn't finalized the name yet, but his Familiar is a raven called Faera. He was his father's familiar, and it has now joined with (insert name here). I have some ideas for his name, but since I really want to flesh out the character, It has to be a pretty good one. |

Welcome, FlameLover!
For what it's worth, my suggestion is to get in there and start meeting other characters. Many people would enjoy the opportunity to Find Out In-Game about your PC.
As for basic character introductions, there's the Vives Personals which gives a bit of information regarding some of the people that your PC may meet along his/her journey through life.
The first post in that thread defines what should be included or excluded in your forum based character description. That, and the existing posts, should provide some guidelines for you.
Enjoy! |

Yes, it was saved. When you logoff, your character state is saved on the Vives server. When you next connect and logon to Vives, you will see the PC(s) that you've created for Vives.
Vives is a Persistent World (PW). This means that, barring technical issues such as server crashes, your character(s) and information about them are stored on the servers. |

Also, your character state is saved every 10 minutes. In the event of a crash, you should lose no more than 10 minutes of your history.

Re: New to Vives Posted: 01 Sep 2004 12:56 AM |
Thanx all, I wasn't sure. I actually saved my character seperatley, but I don't know what good that would do. Next time I want to atleast group with one other person. It's alot more fun if you team-up, otherwise, why not just play single-player? But the look of Vives is amazing. One thing, why does it often seem deserted, even of NPCs? Is this becuase it was night-time or is it always like this to cut down on lag? I just hope I find a lv. 1-3 who needs a wizard next time. The only other people opn when I was were a lv. 15 and 16! |

Re: New to Vives Posted: 01 Sep 2004 03:32 AM |
Vives can often seem empty.. but stick at it because you will eventually bump into people. NPCs aren't that scarce.. try going to a busier place!
Hope to see you in game too... my char's also an illusionist (lvl 2 at the moment) but he's.. well.. I'll let you find out in game :p
Oh I almost forgot - use the player stone! It lists the location of everyone in game which is a great way to meet up. Don't worry about lvl difference as I think everyone who plays here is more than happy to team up for some RP. |

Shame, first lv. 2, and they are the same as me, well, just I couldn't really get to where the lv. 15 and 16s were, they were in some mountain, I doubted that I could get their at Lv1... What's the hub of activity? Not Port Royale that's for sure. Is Midor? |

I've noticed that a lot of folks can be found in the scenic village of Buckshire when they are not traveling. It's where I tend to go when nothing else is going on. Hope to see you there! |
