Journal of Arasus: Entry 5: Month 5, Day 16:
I was walking today outside of Port Royal just taking in the sights of the land around me, when I happened upon my friend Gilmi. Gilmi has been nothing but a friend since we first met a couple of weeks ago, though he sometimes gets himself into trouble with all of his drinking, but I guess most dwarves are like that. Anyway, he looked to be in a hurry so I asked him what would cause him to run so. "Bloody pirates I tell ya! Got me a job to do." and with that he told me of how he had been hired by a pirate named Captain Bones to do away with his renegade crew, and to secure his most precious boat. Well, knowing that Gilmi would be very outnumbered by these sailors, I agreed to accompany him in his task.
Knowing that these pirates would not have docked in the port itself, we headed down the coastline. It did not take long before we found them. They were a vile looking bunch, most of them drunk, and were talking of how they were the scourge of the sea. We did not have time to make much of a plan against them, for Gilmi is the hot temper type, and was upon them quickly. And so the fight began.
The pirates that were ashore fell quickly to Gilmi's axe and to my sword, their day of drinking in the sun wieghed heavily against them. But as soon as the last one had fallen, arrows started to rain from the sky. Many more pirates were aboard this ship than we had thought, and we were forced to take cover. Now, I am a man of some magical talent, and I was not about to let these thugs defeat us in such a mannor. Oh! I wish more could have seen the looks on those pirates faces as my pet spider climbed aboard their ship! Pirates running and screaming like little girls, jumping overboard, trying to aviod its touch in any way. I did not take long for them all to be delt with.
We found a small rowboat drifting a couple of feet off shore and we decided to use it to get out to the ship. Heh, Gilmi, being the proud Dwarf he is, said he would get it. I found out this day that a Dwarf can not jump that far, as Gilmi made it three feet out and plunged head first into the water. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time, for it is not everyday you see a soaking wet Dwarf. We soon secured the boat, mostly by my part, and made our way out to the pirate's ship.
We were planning to make sure the ship was void of any more pirates, but all did not go exactly liked planned. For when we had finished searching the vessal and found it to be clear, we noticed that we had drifted out away from shore. Apparently during the fight, the ropes that held the ship ashore had been cut. We tried desperately to turn the ship around but to no avail, neither one of us knew anything about ships, and we where soon swept out to sea.
We drifted for a while, not knowing what to think or do, when the wind started to pick up even more. Night was falling a it was not long before we were in the middle of a huge storm. Huge waves were crashing over board and we held on to anything we could find. The rain fell so hard you could not see one side of the ship to the other and the thunder was deafening! I knew our time was up and that we had met our end. Dying out at sea had never been how I thought to go.
But luck was with us as the storm let up. Gilmi, being at the front of the ship, peered out into the darkness. Excitedly he turned around and shouted "Land Ho!". We were saved! I soon saw the lights of buildings and the docks that were fast approaching. On a second glance, I noticed they were approaching much too fast! Gilmi pulled on any ropes he could find while I tried to stear the ship away from our fortunate destination. Nothing we did would stop the ship in any way and into the docks of this port we crashed!
Our luck this day had no bounds, for we both made it through the crash alive. Noticing what we had done, we both decided a fast departure would be best. Luckily, no one was on the dock at this hour because of the passing storm, so we were able to slip away without being seen. Upon entering the streets, we noticed we were in Port Royal! I swear, this city will be the end of me!
Gilmi took me to meet this Captian Bones in Midor, and the quiet trip there was just what we both needed. Entering Midor, we met the captain in the streets, and Gilmi told of his crew and how we had retrieved the ship which was now safe in the port of Royal. We did not have the heart to tell him we had destroyed his precious boat. We were very much glad to still be alive, and wanted nothing more than to be done with this situation. Well, Gimli finished up with the captian and we watched as he caught a ride to Port Royal singing some pirate song.
Part of me wanted nothing more than to see the captain's face when he saw his boat, but after seeing it he'd probably want to kill us himself, so I'll leave it at that. |
