Community events: building PC interactions Posted: 23 Jun 2004 01:37 AM |
I started this in response to the latest post in the 'Help for Newcomer's' thread, but decided I'd like these ideas, and the concept behind them, out here for discussion. :)
On IG/IC help for "newbies":
Perhaps we could have a pinned post here in the forums where players could post if their PC is willing to offer IG assistance and what they'd be known for. For example.....if you ask around Port Royale you'd likely hear of Kree...real cheerful half-elf girl, lives over at the Broken Mask....knows her way 'round a few different places *wink wink*...ya looking to meet someone? she knows 'em...ya need a bit o' lucks blessin' she can help...(or somesuch lol). Or....you're in the south, near Ferein...you need an escort thru the troll ridden hills...a passing ranger mentions Ronan..the elf-friend defender of Latonei...and where he can be found. Or....the world famous bard Macha Sparrowsong....known most anywhere *yes, I know you'll both kill me later ;)* The idea here is to give info a PC would likely find out IG thru asking around town or the like...without having to rely entirely upon running into other PCs or having a DM around.
I think it's important for PCs (new and old players alike) to have various ways of becoming involved (and staying involved) in the world, meeting other PCs, learning new things..etc. A few ideas I'd like to work on to this end:
Tours of the lands: We have the wonderfully exciting (and VERY dangerous! heh) Pick and Jessup's Wild Tours, and Kree an' Balthor did a few 'tours' for younger or less 'adventurous' (read insane) folks. I'd do a more of those. I'd also like to conduct some sightseeing tours that don't ivolve fighting. What types of places would folk want to go? What would you (any of you old or new alike) want to see happen on a 'tour'? Do you want to fight!fight!fight! or listen to tales of the areas you calmly travel thru? Or somewhere in between?
Adventurer's night at the Broken Mask tavern: Good ale, fine wine, plenty of space to gather, tell stories of past travels...meet folk for new travels...etc. (weekly meet n' greet type thing? great way to meet people, old and new alike...good opportunity for RP)
Combat tactics classes/hunts: Neek did a couple of these for archers that were extremely helpful. Perhaps one each for melee and ranged fighting, and one for group tactics? One for magic users?
Crafting classes/trade fairs *hint, hint to the crafters Kree knows, cuz she's not one* perhaps these could lead to apprenticeships? strengthen the crafting community as a whole? provide avenues for various types of crafters to work together?
I'm willing to put major effort into any of these and would welcome any thoughts/input/constructive criticism, ideas for similiar things, or offers to help *grin*, you folk have (again, old or new player alike). Feel free to post in this thread or PM me here on the site.
**I am not a DM...I simply love this world and it's populace and have a grand time RPing here. Anything I can do to help it thrive is alright by me.** |

| I've been thinking about something like this for a while. I'm sure I can, along with several others, envision Daimon Participating in something like this. |

| Sounds like a GREAT idea Kree, any of my charactes (Elrendur, Gene, Mars) would be happy to help/participate. |

Thanks Kree, these are all wonderful ideas.
I've started a thread for your idea of players posting a little bit of general information about their PC's here.
I'd love to see players taking the initiative on any of these events you suggested, especially more 'Walking Tour's' for the more sane characters out there. Anyone willing to take any of these on will always have the support of the DM's and we will try to help out any way we can to make things easier for you. |

I think this is a great idea. Evaramier is keen to help new sorcerers (and reluctantly the lesser bread of magi) and is in the process of writing a book I hope will be in Vives. But Evar would certainly be happy for it to be known he would take on apprentices or just show people around.
He does hope to open an acadamy?? *looks to the DMs for a favourable response* |
Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.
