Removing the Restrictions Posted: 30 Jun 2003 12:37 AM |
Does anyone else think it would be neat to remove the Item level restrictions and also allow illegal characters?
Things we could have then are artifact weapons for DM quests. Award skill points and even stat bonuses on special occaions.
whaddya think ? |
I do what the voices in my head tell me too. |

| I don't think that is a good idea... the exploit potential far outweighs its benefits. I would rather introduce other means to circumvent it if it's truly one-off circumstances, e.g., gadgets that provide stats-boost/decrease in-game. At least those are tangible. |

The problem with widgets/gadgets to increase stats is often they need levels, not stats, plus those stats would also affect other game aspects. I agree with Gorak on this one, but it obviously would ONLY be in the hands of the person the DM gave it to. And ONLY if they have proven to be a good RP'er. Obviously it won't be holy avengers to a level 5, but just something to circumvent 2-3 levels for some neat aspects to weapons and add some flavor. Personally, I would think in 6 months time VIves would be up, maybe 1 item a month, at MOST would fit these criteria for giving out though.

I see the problem with removing item level restrictions is the level 1 characters running around with Boots of Speed etc their friends give them.
I know this could be policed but it depends how much time you guys would want to spend policing. |

I guess I'll try to clarify the point at hand. Gorak is looking at 2 things, (i) removing Item Level Restriction, and (ii) removing Enforce Legal Character.
(i) is immediately susceptible to muling and a variety of other problems as Soulforger pointed out.
(ii) is problematic as it is [i:638b49ab69]untangible[/i:638b49ab69]. Once that is in place, there is no way of tracking what have been granted - not to mention distinguishing the legal ones and the truly illegal ones. Then it only takes a single wayward DM to bring the entire server-vault to its knees.
Unless someone can suggest a solution to solve the above problems, both of them are beyond consideration. |

I dont know about the second issue, but for the first, I believe it is possible to give an item fake negative attributes to decrease the level required that dont affect the PC at all. I think that script I posted earlier regarding reducing items value could do this.
