The Light of the White Maiden Posted: 18 May 2004 02:59 AM |
She never imagined that it was so...painful. She always thought that to bring someone back to life was hard, but not that...painful. It was as if she was dying, in the middle of the crypts, to revive two brothers. But it succeeded. She didn’t know how, but they were alright when she fainted.
They probably carried her to the temple, where she finally opened her eyes. A woman with red hair was carrying her. They all talked a bit, but Blanche didn’t recognised the faces. She didn’t see them correctly. They left after a moment so she could rest a while.
After a moment, she decided that she would be better to walk a bit to take some air...
She knew she would be better in the temple.
She saw the same party that was in the crypt in the plains, enjoying one of the half-orc’s meal. She knew something was about to happen, she only didn’t know what. She knew that she had to go in Brandibuck to seek for a man, therefore she asked to the group if they wanted to help her to get there. But the red-haired woman came back from her scouting and told that someone was dead in Mirghul...
Blanche was so exhausted...
She was walking in silence, watching the two half-orc in front of her. One of them was especially worried about her health...that was kind, she thought, but there was nothing she could do for it. When she saw the dwarf though, tears were flowing on her face...She knew she could do something...but she also knew that it would cost her much to grant this dwarf a second chance...
“I can’t stand here and do nothing...she thought. I do not want to live with the fact that I didn’t give this man a second chance...”
She kneeled down and started praying. She tried four times in a week and she knew she hated that sensation to literally gets out of her body to put a spark of life in the fallen’s body. It was like a hundred of needles that was pinching her heart, and then...nothing. Her heart always stopped to beat about a minute before she could be “alive” again.
Tears were flowing on her cheeks. “It is so hard!” She didn’t want to do it! It was too dangerous for her to...to die...
A group of adventurer walked past her own group. She heard two elves speaking together, and another one –Alarwen if she recognised the voice clearly- Telling her to “do her stuff”.
“Do my stuff? What is my stuff? To die on this hour? To die saving another one? Is that my own fate? Midoran doesn’t want to hurt me of course not, but I am too weak to not being affected by this act of faith...Why people asks me to bring back the dead, like it was a normal thing? ... Is that my fate, to die on this minute...I feel myself so...so weak...and yet so strong at the same time... I do not want to die here! I do not like this... yet it is my duty...But I do not want to die!”
She was thinking and praying at the same time, but no words would come to her mouth. When finally she could speak, her voice was broken, almost a whisper.
“M..Midoran...pl...please...Help ... help this man.. I am begging you! Help me... to help this man... grant him a second chance!”
Voices around were so far, like the wind.
And then she heard nothing more. She only saw lights around the fallen dwarf, runes and sparkles. She knew her body was on the ground, without any sign of life. Only her soul was standing in front of Jax Arwylde. Midoran granted him a second chance...But her own body was shattered. She saw the others, stepping back at the scene, Jax then alive...the other looking at her dead body, the disturbed look on their face...
“At least something good happened...and now I really have to die?” she told herself.
She then saw her body softly fading in little lights as the world went dark...
__________
She awoke in a bed. Yes, she was alive! She started to giggle softly as the nurses of the infirmary were looking at her, surprised.
“Oh S..sorry. I didn’t mean to...sorry.”
One of the nurses rushes to her, looking at Blanche with a horrified look. She wasn’t looking good at all. She started to put some bandages on her hands while she was telling one of the other nurses to seek Arian, her friend.
Soon after, Arian rushed in the infirmary with a worried look.
“But what the heck happened, look at you!!!! You shouldn’t went out of the temple”
“Arian...Please...don’t yell at me I...only wanted to be kind to..”
Blanche started to cry in Arian’s arms. She was so tired...
“shh...shhh....It’s alright...there...you’ll come with me to our room ok?”
Blanche nodded. Arian and another priestess carried Blanche to her room where she could rest.
That day would always be clear in Blanche’s mind.

I really liked the story and the roleplay.. gave more perspective on death then respawning 5 times in a row. Don't die if you want someone to save you! You'll kill Blanche! *glares at dwarf*
My favourite OOC part was you laughing at Vadush.. or Zadush.. for not resting, and then finding out you hadn't either.
Well written story too. |

Jax's journey from the 'other side' to the dimness of Mirghul was over in an instant, but his nightmare was just beginning. For as conciousness & awareness rushed through his body, he soon recognized the toll paid for his folly. There on the dank floor of Mirghul lay 'Belle', seemingly overcome by the task just performed. As he stooped down to minister to her, a cold fear stabbed him in the heart...the fare she had paid in service to her Lord, was that of her life. No simple concoction of herbs could bring her back, though out of desperation he had tried anyway. As he stood by, brow furrowed in worry, with the two demi-giant twins and the young Lass, fretting over 'Belle's' still body, she faded from view. Awe & confusion ruled immediately thereafter. Where had she gone? A quick search of the area turned up no sign of the fallen angel. Jax called for her repeatedly, to no avail. His only response was the quiet rustle of leaves and the clump, clump of the twins as they searched for her.
"The Temple,... Midor has taken her to the Temple", Jax said, to his fellow searchers... "I shall go search her out there", he yelled, as he set off. He looked back not to see if the others followed. To speed his journey and ease the burden of his overfilled pack (all the while cursing the innkeeper at the Unicorn for not bringing him a chest, with which to store all this extra gear), he cast the magik of a Bull's strength upon himself & when that did naught but allow him to walk a bit faster, quickly drank a potion of the same magik. At last able to run, he crossed the Great Plains & outskirts of Midor as fast as his stubby legs would carry him. He ran straight thru the city, up the stairs and in a great rush, threw open the doors of the temple.
He called her name as he entered, unconcerned about the meditations of any others. To everyone in the main hall he asked the same question, "Have ye seen Belle?". None could answer with anything but, "I saw her earlier this eve." or "She was here a bit ago." The search then carried him into the the vast cavernous tomb of a hall, but once again, none had seen her. Across the main hall he ran, trying all the doors off of it. He even dared to enter the vestry in search of his saviour. Once in the vestry, he knocked upon every door before entering but to no avail. 'Belle' was nowhere to be found.
It was with a heavy heart and profound sadness that he headed back towards Mirghul. He pondered the whole way, as to where she could be found. As he crossed the Great Plains, he came upon the twins. They had searched for her in Brandibuck, the destination that had brought her into Mirghul to begin with. Their search was as fruitless as was Jax's. They sat about the campfire on the plains, commiserating as to why Midor had taken his servant. Confused as to why a God would extract such a hefty price of one who had dedicated her life to his service.
As the talk continued, the pain in their hearts grew ever sharper at the loss. Eventually the small band decided to return to the temple, but they were now in a dark & angry mood. Angry at Midor for taking such a fine person and leaving us with a hollow heart. Upon climbing the steps of the temple, Jax turned and bellowed at the top of his lungs..."BELLE!" His answer was naught but the sounds of a city going about its business, oblivious to the pain of this small band. In their hearts they hoped upon entering to see 'Belle', to have the hurt washed away by the reunion. Alas but that was not to be, she was nowhere to be found. Now the trio had reached the bottom, that place where despair resides. At a loss for what to do next, Vadush broke the hold of despair upon them. He struck out against the unjustness of Midor with a piece of charcoal taken from his pocket. Upon the steps before the altar he wrote, "Midoorun be da big evul". With that, the sad band left the temple. Shortly thereafter disbanding and going their own ways.
Jax returned to his room at the Unicorn, once more cursing the innkeep for not taking care of his chest. After drinking a glass of spirits in the hopes it would settle his, Jax lay down and stared at the ceiling for hours before merciful sleep stopped the tears and the pain....
OOC This was a sad eve for me as well as Jax. When the night ended without finding 'Belle' I was as distressed in RL as Jax was IG...What an amazing twist 'Belle'. Kept me going for the rest of the eve. Thanks in more ways than one...*smiles* |
