Transport System!!!! what a wonderfull roleplay tool!!! Posted: 29 Apr 2004 12:19 AM |
What a wonderfull transport we have, hey we can go almost anywhere in the world of vives simply by taking a boat there. And Since the boat only work one day out of 2 in certain place you have plenty of time to make Excellent Roleplay while you wait 40 RL minutes for the boat to be available. I just found got to the dock in Ferein as the sun came up. I figuered id time it like that since the boats dont sail at Night. only to find out that today was the day off for the boat. "OH! Great" I said " What a wonderfull oportunity to Roleplay" So I took My two tumbs and started twirling then around each other as I wasted 40 min of My precious RL time. Roleplaying being bored to death on a dock in Ferein.
SO .. Id like to add One more THing " 2 Tumbs up Guys Your system Rock, Roleplay to the max!!! "
p.s. If you didnt notice I was sarcastic you probably should go to ferein and try this out!
(( 20 min to go until the boat is available again, wonder what post ill write till then )) |

*Pugs adds his extreme dislike of the new transport system as reinforcement to Noerdaxinanis' argument*
Basically... it's a pain in the butt that adds next to nothing to the gameplay. I don't mind such transport systems to places like Ka'azim and other islands as they're added, but having it between Midor and Port Royal, the two most populated of places IG, is a RP bermuda triangle. Several times I've logged out simply because everybody was in the city I wasn't and I couldn't be bothered waiting or walking. |

We all hate the transport system.

However, here you have it in a nutshell. Perhaps the builders RL time is -also- precious, and so they havn't found the hours required to rescript and change the whole thing yet?

Yeah, so can I, it still wastes 20 minutes of your time. And even *I* could change the scripts back to the good ole' Kusin days. |

*dreams of going back to Kusin*
And yes, I do hate the transport system more than -any- of you. Do you know how annoying it is to run for 20 minutes to have a CPC say ONE thing to a PC? :p
Or, for that matter, to have Fri'el face off with the only creature I can find which kills her... THE DREADED MANTICORE.

Re: Transport System!!!! what a wonderfull roleplay tool!!! Posted: 29 Apr 2004 01:41 PM |
Well, since this is a Flames section (Go Flame's Go!.. we're going to kick Detroits a$) I'm going to throw in my two cents on the wonderful boats without saying anything constructive >:-) ..
Since when is a transport system an inalienable right? Kusin is not coming back, except for in the form he currently is in. An immediate portal system such as what he was is unacceptable for a world like Vives, and I would rather have no transportation system than that one. (and no, there won't be a portal system either )
So, keeping in mind that this is in the flames section (Go Flame's Go!), would you rather have this realistic system, with a couple of beautifully constructed boats, and something where time and effort were taken to give it character ('cause Kusin sure as heck doesn't have any character), or nothing at all?
Remember, Transportation is a Luxury, not a right
Gosh, that feels good.. ya know.. I kinda like the Flames section (Go Flame's Go!)

Flame? I'll show you flames!!!! (and I don't care about the Flames, but the Habs WILL win ... even if they are busted 3-0 at this time.)
1: I know it's cool realistic things. But this server is for one thing: ROLE PLAY. And to ROLE PLAY something that is OH MY so funny as WAITING for nothing because EVERYONE is in the other city *Lucky me!* IS NOT FUN.
2: For the realistic thingy: The player locator stone will be erased. GEEZ. STILL another THING for ROLEPLAY that will be completely busted. Why? Because people ABUSE it??? GEEZ! If they can go, by themselves, to St-What-the?? Then WHY IS THAT ABUSING IT? there are PEOPLE there!!!! And now we can't even have a transportation system to HELP us ROLE PLAY!?!?!?!?!
3: Is that possible to at least not put some STUPID MANTICORES that sometimes are AT THE EDGE OF THE ZONE!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!
.............I like flames. ;)

That Players stone thing is a bug right? A temporary measure, til the DM's figure out what went wrong with it putting the DM locations in it also? Mind you, I think it was better having the locations of people and DMs than having the locations of only those who manually place themselves on the list. |

Re: Transport System!!!! what a wonderfull roleplay tool!!! Posted: 29 Apr 2004 08:22 PM |
Ok for realism. The boat thing is cool. But also for realism, whoever runs this boat taxi service would surely have bought some more boats. The would surely like to offer transport every day yes? It would greatly increase their earnings , and ya know they're in it for the gold. Even if ithey are poor enough captains to fear sailing at night , or too concerned about damaging boats in the dark to sail at night. Theyd surely make sure they offered transport during the daytime everyday if they could manage. (I bet they've made more than enough gold since they been around to buy a few boats )

Re: Transport System!!!! what a wonderfull roleplay tool!!! Posted: 30 Apr 2004 06:31 AM |
You disabled the Player stone default inclusion because of the DM location bugs?
Why don't you just put it back the way it used to be, and give all the DM's PCinformation gems, and have them exclude themselves once they join the game. Then, you'll have a nearly full list of of players, and hopefully 0 DM's....
From What I've found, A DM is usually more responsible and more knowledged about that sort of thing than the Range of experienced to Fresh meat players.
My Character is a blind Robe wearer... and you have no idea how hard it is to find company to talk with, when you don't run around the realms full speed with Sword and shield out.
On the topic Note... The Transportation system has always been fine for me... I keep track of the days while doing other things, and I find out Where Valien is sailing as soon as I log in. Once you start keeping track, its really not a problem. However... it PISSES ME OFF that most people just think like this:
"Me in Midor, Me want to be in Port Royale, Boat Sposed to go to Port Royale, me check boat." "No Boat today, me angry, boat system stupid, me Check Ladriel (which is, come on guys, 3 minutes away?)" Meanwhile... our person travels to Ladriel as Darkness falls... and by the time they get to Ladriel, its around 2:00 in the morning "Me at Ladriel now, now me go to Port Royale, No night Sailing, me mad, me sit down and.... write songs, 'Me wants to be in Port Royale, me Wants to badly'" "Yea, Daytime now, me goes to....... whats! No ships! There's no ships! Me's Very angry, me walk to Port Royale, get lost, and die from Arrowhawk now, then complain, much better than thinking."
So.... Here comes Lengthly explaination....if you do not understand any part of the system, then read this.
Ok.... For all of you who do not know.... (and I was in a party a few days ago... and not a single person did, including 3 month old players) There is a WATCH on your character.... the Digital kind, so it works at night, courtesy of Indiglo(TM) Hold your mouse over the Compass in the Bottom Right corner of the screen, right above the F12 Quickslot, and you will see what day it is (has a Calender too), followed by the HOUR.. Now... the hours are in Millitary/Non American Format (No AM/PM, Just 0-23 Midnight to Midnight)) Hour 6 is Dawn.... thats when The Ships open. Dusk, is usually around hour 21-22 these days (been really late... long summer days you know) which is 9-10 PM Each HOUR is 2 RL minutes.... I believe. So if you're at hour 3 and waiting to set sail.... you've got 6 minutes to go.
Now that we've got the time system down. There is a Man Named Valien, and a Ship called the Agea.... now... this is the only ship anyone should think about... when they see the message "Sorry no ships today" That is a confusing message, and sadly, some people actually think there are a bunch of ships, and that they appear at random times that cannot be understood even by seasoned Mathematicians. Now... Second.... Check this out: http://vives.dyndns.org/Vives/download/vivesmap.jpg There are only Two Seas the ship Sails, The inner sea, and the outer sea. Now... From what I've gathered, the inner sea is .... the middle of the Backwards C shaped continent (Left side of continent), and the outer sea is The backside Long way around the continent (Right side of Continent)
Now... Valien always starts in Port Royale.... I assume thats probably where he docks for the night... On Day one... he sails the inner Sea.... That means he goes in circles around Buckshire, Ferein, Ladriel, and Port Royale. The Cities are all very close, by sea, and so the voyage is short... Dusk comes... and as soon as that sun sets, he does not work anymore, until Dawn. If you plan on taking a ship.... and are running to town to catch it, check your watch, and make sure you are going to make it. If you're still in the great plains, and its already Hour 22, and for some reason, still light out, Then Forget about it, there is no way you are going to make it (unless you're Luther) you might as well turn around and go To Ladriel.
THE SECOND DAY Valien will ALWAYS sail to Midor, No exceptions, he starts off in Port Royale... and goes North, all the way around Undraeth, Around The Lebandt coast, and the the Fenguul coast, Kobai coast... around the Brandibruck Coast, Maldovia, Paws, until Finally (Its a dang long trip) he lands in Midor. Then, having landed in that dang far away city (But worth it... its a major city) he turns around and heads back. He doesn't stop in any of the aforementioned places because they are too shallow for the ferry, or not civilized/abandoned.
Darkness falls again, and Valien sleeps, let a man sleep, ehh?
The Next day, with NO exceptions, he sails the inner sea again.
So what's the Problem? "I can't get from Midor to Port Royale when I want to" Easily solved.... if it is daytime, and you have the money,(And you better better dang check your watch to make sure you have enough hours left of Daytime) you can always get from Port Royale to Midor without fighting a single thing. Here's How.
From Midor: Take Valien's ship The Agea to Port Royale Via the Outer sea. If it is not sailing that day (Either because you are keeping track, or you found the hard way) Then: Walk outside to the Peddler, and Take Kusin the Cart Driver to Paws. Then Cross paws to the Docks, and Take the Wave 'opper. (For some reason, few people know this ship exists). Talk to Alosynth, and drink your Applejuice, then you will dock in Brandibruck. From Brandibruck, travel West along the Ladriel Path, Tower, and shoreline, until you hit the Coast. Natana will then ferry you out to Valien's ship... which, is making rounds in the inner sea. His ship can take you to Port Royale.
From Port Royale: Take Valien's ship The Agea to Port Royale Via the Outer sea. If it is not sailing that day, Then: Take Valien's ship to the Coast of Ladriel. There, after landing with Natana, Travel southeast along the Ladriel tower, Path, and into Brandibruck. Walk east of Brandibruck, and you will find the Brandibruck Coast. Take the Wave 'opper. Talk to Alosynth, and drink your Applejuice, then you will dock in Paws. From Paws.... Travel acrossed the town to Kusin the Oxcart Driver.. and he will take you to Midor.
Thats it. A few side notes. ::If you can handle Mirguhl, either alone, or as a party, running through the Great plains is usually much faster than taking the Wave 'opper (Sorry Alo, you're slow, but the company is nice) But not all of you can handle Mirguhl... especially all you level 5-10 blind mages out there, who walk everywhere. ::If By the time you Reach Ladriel, it is already night time, and too late. It is almost always much faster just to cross the Desert at night. A lot of strong things in the desert though, if you've never done it before... then don't. I won't be responsible for Newbie deaths. More powerful people will note that... if it is nightime in Midor.... It is even faster walking to Buckshire acrossed the desert from there. ::If you go to Ferein, and you don't want to make a land passage. you better understand that, you either need to leave the same day, or be prepared to have a whole day intermission before the next. If you get stuck in Ferein, then it is usually your own dang fault... so quit your whining.... do the smart thing,... and plan your vacation.... Leave in the Morning.... At dawn even Spend less then 18 hours there, and then go back to Port Royale. Thats 36 minutes in your favorite elven city. If you aren't watching the clock, and night falls... then too bad, pay attention next time. If you really want to leave soon, then hell, sure, go across land. You get your choice of mixed meals of and Trolls and Wolves, or Wisps and Shadowgiants, with a desert of Crag cats and Kobolds. Most people will take the Trolls, though. ::Take Full advantage of What remains of Kusin's services... he's cheap, and he's fast. I cannot, however, imagine a Full Kusin to Jusin Service... all my servers have been as big as Vives, if not bigger, and fully player transported. To me, the current system is a luxary. I can't even imagine the previous instant teleportation everywhere. I'm kind of new here, so I don't remember it.
If you have any questions... either make them here, in this ..... Thread.... or contact me OOCly in game Via PM. oh, and ... DMs, if you think I gave away too much information here, I'm sorry, but a lot of people here are too lazy to find out these things on their own (No offense, I'm lazy too *thumbs up* Go lazy people!) And Yes, I'm pissed off... I never want to hear anyone complain about the transportation system again, it makes me sick.
*edit*And in case any of you don't know my characters to contact them in game.... look right there....*Points Down* Memorize those names. | | V |
