The Vengeance Come to Midor.

"Coward, leaving a beautiful lady like you, all alone, and unprotected." Volrath's words took on a certain viciousness that Blanche hadn't noticed before. The druid stood quietly, unarmed, speaking casually with her for quite some time. To just prove a point, the elf had nearly killed Artinam twice. Now Blanche stood alone in the lobby of the library with the cold-blooded druid.

Blanche placed the back of her cane on the elf's back. Suddenly, a spider crawled out from under his robe, and onto the cane, frightening the poor woman, causing her to drop the cane in shock.

"You're under arrest! You murdered two people." Blanche's words were forced, trying to hold back her terror.

"Hm.. Four, if you count the guard I killed in Buckshire, and the attempted murder on the mayor.. Twenty-eight, if you count all the people in Port Royale.. twenty-nine if you count the guard I killed that tried to apprehend me the first time.." The druid's smirk widened into a hideous, toothy grin. "And countless others, if you keep in mind that Szzark and I have to feed every day..."

"You're disgusting..."

"Would you care to be next on the list, Miss Blanche? I'm sure Szzark and I would love to have you for dinner.."

The enormous spider reered on its back legs, hissing loudly.

"I shall defend the weak with my heart.. with Midoran by my side, you can't win!" Blanche's words rung out, a bit of confidence ringing in her voice as she bared her holy symbol.

"And what do you plan to do, miss? Go ahead. Shoot me. Hit me. Slice me. Stab me. Cast spells upon me. You'll find it all quite useless." Volrath's words never rose or fell.

"I won't. Your own conscience will work against you."

"Hm. Szzark, please show the lady the depths of my conscience."

With that, the spider leapt at the woman, pinning her to the ground, and with unnatural speed, bound her hands, feet, and mouth, leaving the rest of her exposed. Afterward, the druid stepped over the woman's struggling body, petting the spider warmly. Blanche continued to struggle, tears flowing from her eyes.

"You seem to be in quite a predicament now, miss Blanche." The fiery-haired elf turned towards the woman, looking down at her. "You know, I played a bit of a game, with Coruva. You see, I poisoned him, then went and found you, and the game was that we got to see if you saved him, before, well, you know, the poison killed him. And much to my disappointment, I noticed that he won that round. So I'll ask.. who will save you?"

The druid knelt down, long fangs protruding from his mouth, and he bit deep into her thigh, releasing powerful poison into her veins. He stood up slowly, the fangs retracting.

"You know, miss Blanche. You should feel lucky." Tears poured down the woman's face. "Because if I was going to eat you, I'd have just spoiled my dinner. I'm going to go have a nice talk with judge griffin now. Be well, miss!"

With that, the druid wandered out of the library, laughing coldly.

Soon after, Volrath appeared in the chamber of High Judge Griffin. Before the old man could react, the spider had jumped onto the door, webbing it securely shut. The judge would be going nowhere.

"Who... wha-.."

"You." Volrath's words were quiet, and sinister.

"Who are you?" The guard's eyes shifted quickly from the druid, to the spider, to the door.

"Do you remember me, Griffin?" Volrath slowly stalked towards the judge.

"Guards!"

"I'm afraid they won't help you." The elf gestured casually towards the sealed doorway.

The high judge backed into the wall. "W-what do you want, who are you?!"

"Half a year ago, your city of men.. You sentenced me to death." The judge's face began to contort with realization and fear. "For three days I waited outside this court, requesting an audience. For three days I sought the justice of men!." Volrath's voice became a low growl. The spider reered up, hissing at the judge.

"..Then I will have the sentence carried out! Guards!" The judge's words came weakly, hoping that anyone, anything would come to save him.

"Oh, but it was carried out. You were there. Do you not remember Volrath Soulflame?"

The judge's eyes suddenly sprang open with the sudden realization. Indeed, the judge had sentenced him to death, and Griffin had even been present at the execution. He remembered with a shudder the druid's final words. I'll come back for you.

"How.. how..?"

"The justice of Midoran came swiftly to protect its own. You killed me because I took the justice.. the justice your city denied me, into my own hands."

Suddenly, hundreds of spiders crawled out from beneath the elf's robes, and onto the judge, covering him in spiders. They crawled over him, biting occasionally. The judge fell to the ground in shock and fear, screaming in horror, thrashing about on the floor.

Volrath's laugh echoed maliciously around the room. "Three days. I gave the courts three days to grant me justice. In my infinite mercy, I will give them three more. You will formally apologize."

" I will not..!" The judge's words were forced.

"There will be a writ of apology and you will sign it! Or you and every person in this city will become my meal."

The spiders slowly withdrew, disappearing back beneath the elf's robes.

"Crawl back into the whole from whence you came.." The judge spat his words out through gritted teeth, sounding almost as if he regretted speaking them.

A light chuckle rose from Volrath's throat. "Amusing. You should be thanking me for just simply not killing you right now. Have a good night, judge. You only have a few left."

The druid turned towards the door, and the web fell from around it. He quietly walked out of the room without another word, leaving the judge on the floor.

Macha stood in the outskirts of Midor, exchanging pleasant conversation with Bronwyn, Gasher, and Sister Xune. She was feeling peaceful and purposeful for the first time a long while. The events of the earlier part of the day had renewed her conviction of her path, and she felt a strength of purpose that had left her in recent weeks.

Sister Xune herself was intriguing, and Macha enjoyed their exchange of ideas immensely. This, she thought, is someone who could teach me much. As they stood speaking, suddenly the ground around them started to shake. Looking into the sky, eyes wide with fright, Macha searched frantically for the green dragon that had appeared earlier. Seeing and hearing nothing more, she stepped back and held onto the bridge as the shaking continued.

"What was that?" They all asked each other, questions in their eyes. None of them had any answers. Macha noted the looks of concern on Gasher and Bronwyn's faces.

"I'm going into the city." Sister Xune said, after an examination of the outskirts revealed nothing.

Nodding, the three others quickly drew their weapons and followed her. Upon entering, Macha immediately stopped in shock. There, in front of the temple, she saw a profusion of vines growing, writhing, seeking a victim. In the middle, there stood an elven man in robes, his arms raised and head thrown back. Before she had the chance to register much more, a large spider thrust it's body around the corner. It attacked Sister Xune, and then Gasher, and then all of them were caught up in the combat. Trading blows back and forth, it seemed none would come out the victor, when suddenly it all disappeared.

Looking around in confusion, Macha focused her attention on Xune, who was walking purposefully in the square. "Who was that man?" She asked, a frown creasing her brow.

"That was an Elf." Sister Xune replied. "Volrath, I believe is his name."

"An elven man, yes?" Macha clarified. "I do not know of him."

Looking up, Xune's sharp eyes spotted the man again, and she gestured quickly and took off at a graceful run. They gave chase past the temple through to the entrance to the sewers. Once there, they were confronted with an outpouring of spiders. A guard came to their assistance, but before he could aid them past one fight, he succumbed to the poison of one of the spiders bites.

"This Elf is full of much anger. It is a sad thing." Xune said, her voice tinged with regret as they stood looking at the entrance to the sewers where he had fled. "We should guard this entrance, and keep him down there where he cannot do harm."

"Indeed, it is sad." Macha replied. "Still, he should not be allowed to harm innocent people because of it." She frowned as Master Xie and Vesper arrived. "I am worried of what he is doing down there."

Just then, Gasher cried out from around the corner, and the by now familiar chittering of spiders led them to his location in the warren of buildings. Gasher, Daimon and Brownyn dispatched them neatly, appalled at the way that they flooded through the streets toward them almost unceasingly. Finally, when the fighting was done and the poisons cured from their systems, they heard Gasher's voice cry out again.

"Here!" He yelled urgently, summoning them past the mass of buildings to the base of the ramp leading to the Strothenbaum estate. Running as quickly as they could, they followed the man to the very door of the estate, where a guard watched with a wary scowl.

"See my power." Volrath cackled, as spiders began pouring out of the house at them once more. Macha shivered with the energy in the air, as Xune and Bronwyn both forbade him to continue. The group tried to speak to him, questioning him frantically and getting only an answer that he sought justice. Once more, Bronwyn commanded that he stop as spiders crawled over and around the outside of the estate.

The Elf laughed once more and Bronwyn stepped forward with outstretched arms, casting fire onto the figure. Gasher took the clue and rushed forward as well, swinging his weapon with the practiced ease of much use.

"I will not have the Mother's creatures used this way!" Bronwyn cried, swinging her weapon at Volrath. With a final laugh, the Elf turned shadowy, his figure becoming dark and then coalescing into the bodies of thousands of tiny spiders which collapsed and ran away through the streets. At the same time, an avalanche of spiders erupted from the house in front of them, and they fought furiously once more.

Exhausted, the spiders once more cleansed, they stood speaking to each other around the estate when the guard scowled at them once more.

"I 'member tha' man." He said, his voice drawling at them in contempt. "He 'as sentenced ta hang a while back."

"To hang?" Gasher asked in surprise. "Did he?"

"It worked poorly, if he did." Macha said, her voice weary. She looked around at the bodies of the spiders around them, and her friends covered in the gore of their battle. Glancing back up at the guard, she listened to him continue his remembrances of the man's hanging. Apparently, he had then turned into thousands of small spiders, just as they had seen.

"Let us got the the Law Courts." Sister Xune said. "Perhaps we can find more information there to aid us."

Gathering their strength, the group rallied once more and took off through the streets toward the Midor Courts of Law.

I'd like to publically apologize to everyone involved in this conclusion.... I created a rather large RP ruining Rift, by remaining AFK throught most of the action....

When Macha left, I thought that Things were over for the night, so I went AFK in and went into the house and Grabbed some dinner, and ended up having a long discussion with my father.... when I came back, everyone was gone, and apparently I even died and was raised while still AFK standing in the middle of everyone's way just staring off in the distance....

I'm sorry, and I hope everyone did their best to realize my AFKness and.... ignored me Appropriately.... My thanks to Elbereth for.... breathing me life again. I am glad to see I didn't get any RP exp for .... hehe..... standing there AFK and getting killed .... Just another guarantee that the DM's are doing their jobs well. *wink*

I liked the story though.... congratulations to everyone who put it on successfully.
