DMs: Chief

The next person I'd like for us to talk to as a DM candidate is Chief. He's been around forever, as long as most of us, and has contributed good characters to the server. The whole PAJWT storyline has been pretty much DM work without the title, and he's done a find job of it. He's a pretty level guy, and I think he'd make a good choice. I'm going to set up an interview for him, and let's see how he comes out.

Question Authority!

I think Chief is a great roleplayer. I haven't had the chance to play with him alot, but the few times i did find him ingame were hilarious. However I do think we need a DM who is around alot. I thought chief mentionned his departure of Vives some times ago, furthermore I don't see him around that often. This could be however timezone related.
I don't think we need someone who is around and available 2 or 3 times a week, how good a roleplayer he is, but agian maybe this is timezone related and is chief around every day of the week..

I personally was thinking of Phoenix_Dias? Good char(s), good roleplayer, always around, good ideas and mentallity.

I think both Chief and Phoenix_Dias have the potential to be good DMs, from what I've seen.

Of course, I havn't seen either of them DM.. but both can RP well a variety of characters.

Phoenix is a tad too involved in PF's world for my taste, frankly, but I have thought of him in the past as well.

I cannot really comment on what is "too involved," but I don't think he is too terribly involved at the moment. In addition, he seems to be currently very involved in Vives.

PD is a superb roleplayer who seems to be available for long stretches of time and avoids metagaming like the plague.

If I were to suggest one person to be DM it would be him.

Then again, the thread is re: chief. I haven't really interacted enough with him to comment on him either way. All I remember is a lot of people complaining about how fast Fengus levelled, but, then again, people complain about everything.

I say we should consider Chief. I have RPed with him forever and he does a fine job!
Another possible canadate is Arasus. He is another long time player that RPs well.

Until someone can prove to me that chief did not log in as my characters (which his player history clearly shows) I will be vehemantly against him becoming a DM.

There's something about that whole matter of Fengus gaining 17 levels in under 100 hours that still doesn't sit well. I'm unable to see how that sort of thing is in the servers best interest. I don't question his RP, i've had the pleasure of interacting with him as well, but i do beleive more than just, 'good RP' comes into play here.

Certain things stick in your mind, and because of that, my stance is with Lytton for the time being. I do however invite anything that might sway me in the other direction, as my decision is not final at the this point in time.

mmkay...

Lytton, did you talk with Chief? What was his response?

All I'll say is this: Let they who are without sin cast the first stones. People change, especially when they see the road clearly in front of them. I'm not gonna start a big pissing contest over this, but I still think he could be good.

Without delving into it all too much, yes I have indeed raised it with Chief who claimed total innocence. This means that either:
a) He is the innocent victim of a code-related rooster-up, or
b) He's a git.

Chief has been my friend online (we were pretty close on LoL ) for well over a year so I'd far rather believe option A than option B.

Ignoring this episode, Chief _IS_ a good rp'er but I feel it would be best if he was left to enjoy his status as an important player. He has a care-free attitude which is great as a PC, but I don't feel that it will translate well into him being a great DM.

None of us can know for sure of course, this is just my opinion.

Cheers,

Lytton

Boy, looks like Alo and I are brining up all the old business today.

What's the status on this? I can't claim to have an opinion either way, as I haven't interacted with him in any significant fashion IG. I'll leave my vote at a nice, safe neutral.

If this matter is closed and we aren't going to extend Chief an invitation for DMing, the next logial questions are, do we intent on adding more DM's, and if so, who?

Sorry for being pushy, but each loose end we tie up is another loose end we won't have to worry about later on.

Well, I've been thinking about just this.

I'd say we need to hold off on adding more DMs for a few weeks, at least. Otherwise, chaos is going to ensue.

We have a good core, I don't think any timezones are suffering, and i honestly don"t want to dilute the player base of strong roleplayers either.

Let's set Chief and others on the shelf for a little while.

Another one for the public forums.

Wow, another old thread from before my time. This is the first thread I could find nominating Chiefy for DM.

I believe it is.

There is probably another thread or two before he finally got it.

One reason PD and Chief were not made DMs earlier is that we didn't want to rob the player base of some of the best players.

Fortunately, I wasn't one of those :)

Let it be known I was the first to suggest PD for DM (I think)!

I was just recalling, vaguely, two stories involving PD. One was an awesome encounter with him when I was a newish DM and everyone was trying to figure out who Cele was. I think the story involved PD and a dragon.

The other was when I first met PD, as a player. We were at a campsite. I blinked and he was gone. I blinked again, and he was back. "What happened?" I asked. I can't recall exactly what it was, maybe some robbers on the hill or something. I recall Vives being like that, if you wandered 3 steps to the left, something horrible befell you. Dina, my main PC, was always so scared to go anywhere and still has a life-long fear of Centaurs.

Now that I re-read this thread, I see that I think I have my PDs confused. Oh well. It's been nearly a decade.

No, I think you've got it right.

Phoenix_Dias is the one you're talking about. He was always helping new players out and giving them time.

Oh we had quite a few interactions, both as players and then when you were a DM as well! I had fun with all of them.Smiley

And thanks for the vote of confidence, but to be honest I don't think I was DM material. Quite frankly I was amazed at what all the DMs here pulled off in terms of storylines and then using all the special effects. I would have so botched everything.... It was always a lot of fun just playing and either reacting to the DMs or having them react to something we did.
