Crashes = Complete character loss Posted: 18 Mar 2004 08:54 PM |
I was logged in and wandering around from 1pm to 5:30pm pst gathering exploration experience, when the server crashed.. I waited a bit .. saw about 9 people online from the web interface.. so I fired up nwn and saw my character exp at Zero.. i thought it was just lag or a bug.. so i log in.. and wham i'm back at introduction.. with 2 other people who this happen to.
I tried to contact a DM but the only one on was Listen (irc name) and he I guess didn't feel like dealing with it and went to sleep. I'm just wondering how often does this happen?
It's the 3rd time in less than a week that this has happened to me. The first time i just said forget it and made another character, the 2nd time, the dm said it was an issue and there was a fix put in that day to fix it... well 2 days later (today), it happens again but worse. |

I do apologise for not being able to go IG and aid you. However, your statement that I "didn't feel like dealing with it and went to sleep" is presumptious.
I caught your irc comment just as I was heading to bed. On my screen, there appeared to be 30 players IG, meaning I could not have logged on. It turns out there is a new glitch with the DM screens and players appear to be logged in twice so there were not 30 players IG, however, I did not know that.
I program detailed models for a living and work out of home. Before I went to bed, I ran the current model I am working on to test it, as I do every night. A model can take up to six hours to run and during that time I cannot log into NWN without crashing the computer. By the time I realised there was a glitch with the DM screen, my model was already running.
In the future, please do not make assumptions about people. I often monitor the irc channel as I work during the day to see if anyone needs help IG and am usually quite amenable to doing so, unless my computer will not allow me. |

I am terribly sorry and did not mean it the way it sounded.. After re-reading the post, it does seem to be in a negative light. I meant it more of a statement of no DMs available and not some kind of accusation, and for that I am sorry.
I fully respect your RL and your assistance, and didn't mean to intrude upon it. |

There have been other comments about people loosing lots of stuff when they don't log out, but lag out.
Err.. I think it sorta needs to get fixed...

| I can verify that last night's crash set the character record back. Loli had changed into her armor, left Ferein, fought all the trolls, sat for a while in Icy Vale Inn talking to Gullener, then listened a while to a party who entered the inn. When we got back after the crash she was in the Inn, but wearing the clothing she had been wearing before she donned armor in Ferein. Location was correct, but not the "equipped" list. I can't say for certain whether or not the EP was correct because I was not watching it at the time, but my guess is that she also lost the EP for the trolls. This is based on previous experience with crashes. Previous experience with crashes also says you won't get your EP back. *wink* If you died on account of the crash, or if the quests are now screwed up, I would hope someone would help you. |
Dieties preserve us from the evil chaotics named Lag, Crash, and Server Reset. PCs: Loli Dankirk (Ftr 18/Brd 8.5 @ 1777 hrs) left Vives for Origins; Gnora Gnombody (Sor 5 @ 54 hrs) and Amanda Stark (Wiz 3 @ ~10 hrs) left Vives for Feline Providence. |

I wasn't on much last night and I've just logged on today - I certainly wasn't on when this crash took place but....
Can I have my character's old head back please?
Elvalia's appearance has changed and I for one don't like it
[sorted - after a couple of relogs, weird] |
Elvalia - Chosen of Aros Elrith Mellin Perin - 'Cleric (an' drewid) o' Elbreff' Weddin's an' pies a speciarality
