NPC's Posted: 30 Jun 2003 12:37 AM |
:D Ok this isn't what u asked, but it seemed the best place to post this. I am thinking about some quests, but what I had in mind, and what i need to write down first, is about NPC's. I have some idea's for some new NPC's:
Chief of Midorian Guards: For now there are some guards in Midor.. but it seems rather logical they should have some IG superior. A Chief who listens to complaints and locks up the crooks. He could be resided in the Midor Prisson, as a Midorian Guard Headquarters. Ofcourse this fellow could ask some help from people to assist him or retrieve something (hey ara quest ideas :D w00t!). I haven't really thought up a suitable type of guy,.. but if u want I can do that..
Snook the Apothecary: This is a whole different story. I was thinking about some (maybe fictive though) order which resided in Port Royale. The Order of the Apothecaries was formed by the Queen (as i noticed a sign which says queen on it I asume Port Royale has a queen (owyea something else WHO ARE VIVES/ the cities IG LEADERS!!?????)) to protect national health. Port Royale, the ratnest of Vives, knows lots of infections and hazardous disease outbreaks. This Order was formed to map those diseases and find cures to help the people and to prevent large scale epedemics. As a member of the Order of Apothecaries, being part of a governmental institution the money u make isn't that much. Snook is one of the members who thinks the money he earns is way to low. He's saving lives everyday for God's sake. Therefor Snook appears occaisionly in the dark streets of Port Royale. Selling potions, medications, drugs and experimental cures, Snook tries to obtain the money he's dreaming of. Snook should be a merchant selling Healing Potions, maybe after a [persuade] ('U aren't from the police are u?') he could show u what he's really selling. That would be some special Potions, uhm to cure diseases, against poison, certain drugs that would boost Strenght but have some nasty side effects, some things that are a bit better as the excisting potions but should also have some negative side effects.. Also Snook could ask people to help him.. maybe he needs something to be smuggled inside or outside Port Royale, he has problems with authorities or with a certain gangleader.. Again I can work this out a bit more.
About Vives IG leadership.. if there really is a Queen (or fictive one) that rules over the whole of Vives.. maybe it would be nice to have Royal Heralds. Men or women who are the Queens official spokesspersons. Though these Heralds doesn't have to be in-game all the time, maybe they could be played by a DM if such a thing is necesarry.. (heralds walking into Midor, gathering the people and tells a story or order of the Queen = quest)
What I also like are some race specific NPC's. Maybe they could use that special racial talk. It might be a bit to earlie for these.. as i believe there were also comming racespecific cities or anything? These NPC's could be the start for some quests that could lead to race specific Items. NPC's like an Orkish Witch Doctor and an Elven Seer would be rather cool in my opinion.
that's about it for now.. have to do something else now... :?

Just thought I'd throw one in I used...would like him as a real, full NPC rather than a named DM :)
[b:9ed2296b51]Boregard Wenchwomper[/color:9ed2296b51][/b:9ed2296b51]
A thick, surly half-orc, the paunch owner of prostitutes is seldom seen on the streets walking alongside the common man. Though several brothels do exist within the various cities, especially in Port Royale, none can match the cartel that this cantankerous man does. Known for his cruelty of women and love of food and drink. Boregard keeps his dealings mostly secret, using bribery and a small black market also running through his fingertips. Though thwarted several times, he has gone missing lately, perhaps building up his lucrative empire once more....

[b:4d57309ab2]Bert Davidson[/color:4d57309ab2][/b:4d57309ab2]
[i:4d57309ab2]"Amongst the virtues of men, although they are equal, Mercy should always shine with more brilliance than Justice."[/i:4d57309ab2]
Noble in blood and deed, unwavering in courage and virtues, Bert has arisen fast within the ranks of the Defenders. Unfortunate for him, only when he assumed the position did it become obvious that the Justice and Compassion are not always the same; a dilemma resulting in the resolute renouncement of his position. His current whereabouts is unknown.

Re: NPC's Posted: 11 Jan 2004 01:08 AM |
I would have to say that the npc's should carry class or path quests, as well as the normal ones. But the class quests, ex. a rogue quest given by "Boregard", it can only be done with certain class players in the party, and it would be for a class based item and a good amount of exp. Just do not make a lot of them and it will give the players something to look forward to at the next coming levels. This could also be done with Alignment, a group of good players seeking out the evil mage, or the evil assasin being sent to take down the good storekeeper who doesn't pay back debts.
Just some thoughts when reading the forums.

Good ideas Molo, and as I'm sure you've seen IG on several quests, most of the DM's tend to throw in a trap or two, a riddle or two, or some special occurance where someone in the party with a specific class can help out. For the DM run events at least, and we do that so all people have a chance to apply their useful skills during DM run adventures, from the simple fed-ex quest to part of an epic saga.
My personal opinion is not many quests should change alignment, as its hard to really go deep into the character persona and to the written/scripted NPC/event to truly show an alignment shift. I personally perfer alignment shifts to come quite slowly through DM quests only (a point here, a point there, shifted in whatever direction is appropiate), because it truly takes time to prove you are either one of good or true evil. Two or three quick off quests that give it don't prove enough that "Your actions back up your words".
