Brandibuck shop Posted: 19 Jan 2004 05:16 PM |
Is this just part of the HoTU shop problems or was this done with a reason in-mind.
The Brandibuck Inn no longer has rations in his inventory. In addition, the avg. electrical trap that used to cost me 1gp now costs 3600. Several other avg traps didn't cost quite so much, but still enough that they were probitively expensive.
I already don't get exp for using traps, I can't harvest them since disarm trap is not a ranger skill and all the trap DCs in Vives make it impossible for me to do more than flag or disarm. I certainly can't pay 3600 for one single trap.
If I can't buy a trap, and I can't harvest a trap, I can't set a trap. Kind of a waste of a lot of skill pts if that's the case.
Of course all such wastes can't be blames on others, some you must look at yourself and ask "what were you thinking?". Did you hear about the ranger who picked UD as a favored enemy... |

Part of growing pains with the move to HotU merchants. That he doesn't sell rations is an oversight, and we will get to it eventually. That traps are so much more expensive is something that will be fixed as we tweak the margins that merchants sell at.
The fact that traps were selling for 1gp at one point in itself is an oversight and was not fixed because the information was getting on to the builders at a time when they would remember to fix it. 1gp for an average trap seems a little cheap.
You'll have to bear with us as we continue to get the economy tweaked. |

Oh.. I recall, reading in the Masters of the Wild PHB that there is some special feat, either through PrC's or just DM consent I dont remember, that allows you to overcome the crit immunities of Undead or Elementals if you pick them as favoured enemy. Mind you this is in PnP of course, not NWN.
Actually, come to think of it. I think I once picked undead as favoured enemy for a Ranger of mine. Of course that just seemed the logical choice since there was a lot of undead being thrown at me and I dont really pay any attention to the numbers and such involved in things. |

| I had a discussion with, I believe Fenarisk in IRC. He told me not only do you not overcome the crit hit limitation (I can verify that they are still quite immune to critical hits) you don't even get a damage bonus. The only gamesmanship plus is taunt. Bleh. I never taunt. Sure, from an RP perspective UD is great, but I could still RP hating UD without being a dumb-a$ and picking them as a favored enemy *laugh* |

I have no idea what ANY of this means so it wasn't me you talked to in IRC . However, I could be forgetting, not sure. Either way I will check and test this IG with the NWN sustem.

| I was just scanning through it yesterday and saw something about overcoming the crit immunity, but I'll check it again when I get home. I could always be wrong.. like I said, these rule things often go over my head |

Yeah.. you were talking with me Viper Pilot.
Creatures that are immune to criticals are also immune to the damage bonus you get from the Favoured Enemy ability. (undead, constructs, elementals and plants) The rest of the bonuses still apply.
There is a feat in PnP called Supernatural Blow which lets you pick a favoured enemy that's immune to crits and it makes them vulnerable to critical hits dealt by you and also allows you to apply the damage bonus from your Favoured Enemy ability to that creature type. HOWEVER, THIS DOESN'T EXIST IN NWN. |

Re: Brandibuck shop Posted: 20 Jan 2004 10:01 PM |
As for the traps in the Brandibuck shop the reason they sell for different prices is that traps of "Average" strength ACTUALLY differ greatly in power. Electrical and Fire traps are far more powerful than Acid Splash traps and Spike traps for example.
If you look in the toolset under placing traps you can see that they're sorted by degree of deadliness. Inside the roughly five categories ranging from minor to deadly, you'll find the individual traps. So a minor electrical trap might be grouped with a strong acid splash and a average holy trap as being roughly the same value for killing things.
Eg. Grouped under Strong Traps are: - minor electrical/fire/gas trap - average fire/tangle/blob of acid - strong holy/negative/tangle - deadly holy/negative |

I found that out the hard way.
I didn't realize how far out the elec trap would reach out and touch you and when the guy I was running from zapped a trap, it snagged me and took me down.
Now, if you got exp for traps, would I have gotten credit for killing myself? *grin* |

| You could also try crafting your own traps, they are under tinkering. I'm kind of afraid what a deadly electrical would cost. |
