Re: HakPak Requests Posted: 20 Sep 2003 12:52 PM |
| I've been touring the worlds and come back with a number of interesting notions, one of which might be of value in Vives. Namely, maps. One place had maps you could buy, either individually or as groups in booklets which were much more expensive. Possession of a map meant that the area was totally revealed when the character entered it. Maps were sold only for the cities. It did require that the stores and so forth be marked with pins in order for it to be of full utility, yet it would also be a convenience even without that. Another place had an overall map of the world which appeared as a graphic next to the character, when used. It was a colored line drawing. A map like this could be used as a prop for some kind of quest; an X-marks-the-spot kind of thing. |

I know this one is the last one in the world you want to think about, but I thought it was cute when I ran across it. _If and when_ you ever get around to fussing over the Pack Oxen, there is a hak for pack donkeys, boars, and a few other animals. What I am thinking is that you could make an option for using the smaller animals with fewer packs. Say four for the donkeys and two for the boars. Or if you don't want to add any equines, then just the boars. There were bears, too, which would probably double as bodyguards and cost more than oxen. Well anyway, I'm not trying to restart the persistant pack animal argument. I'm just saying there's some attractive alternatives to the pack oxen. Oh, and there's also pack oxen with attractive packs, which would differentiate someone's property from a member of herd of wild pelt-bearers.

Yup. Oronk is almost as good as one of those anyway.

The maps... when I get around to the toolset again, I'll see to getting some of it done. The problem with the annotated map is... I have no idea where everything is (store et cetera), beyond the basics. It doesn't require a hakpak and can be doable on the scripting level.
As for hakpaks, I'm quite inclined to have the alternative fist-stances tho, beyond what we're having now... But then, it seems to be a consensus amongst the other admins that we should try to limit our hakpak releases to as long as possible. Booya~!

| For the annotated map, you just put a waypoint with "map pin" selected, and add a name in the text. For the towns these would go in front of doors with active transitions. And you are correct, it is just a script on a new item with a tablet or parchment graphic and does not require a hakpak. |

Yup, I got what you mean, and this would require someone to know all of the active transitions for the cities (which I'm not sure if anyone does ) What we could try is having something like that available, and then on feedback add in MapPins for locations that should be (but not yet) on the map. |

They should be listed under each area, on the left, under Triggers and/or Doors. In my modules I tag doors with strings such as WF_Farmhouse_Back_In (Back entrance into Farmhouse in Western Farmland), and tag area transition triggers with strings such as WF_NW_Exit (Northwest exit from Western Farmland). That differentiates those triggers from ones tagged with strings such as "DracolichWarnOff" (which sends a message) or "CreateDracolichTreasure" (which creates a placeable). |

Second that with PF...Rhedd (as is noted on the replies and comments) is a true hero in the Morrowind community (Best singleplayer RPG ever IMO, so beautiful ). This guy is simply amazing in his abilities, I hope he does more for the NWN community. Anyways yeah, the cloaks HAVE to be good from Rhedd.

What I said was...
If this guy Rhedd can do stuff with MORROWIND, of all games, then he must be some kind of mod-god :D So, heck, I'm looking forward to see what he can churn out for NWN...like new elf heads...mm.... |

I was just referring to the nice graphical nature and of the implementation of custom skins/models he has done...much harder than simple "modding" .

Re: HakPak Requests Posted: 09 Oct 2003 11:57 AM |
I certainly haven't produced very many meshes or skins in my life, but considering the numbers of confused questions I hear from graphical artists on what to me are simple programming concepts I have to take exception to the statement that theirs is a much more difficult task. I think the tasks are different, and one is not necessarily more "simple" than the other. ;)
BTW, the Morrowind editor is very much a graphical environment. Unlike the NWN editor you don't get handed pre-made rooms and fixed terrain sets. You have to sculpt your own terrain and build your own interiors. In that sense it is a much more flexible editor and requires some graphical ability from anyone who uses it to make a new area. You are quite correct however, that setting up a simple "fetch the letter" quest isn't very difficult in either game. |

Please concider adding the Alphabet Tileset Hak: http://nwvault.ign.com/Files/hakpacks/data/1035872407130.shtml
It is very small (about 1.2 MB I believe) and can be very useful. Case in point:
An Indiana Jones type scenario: You come across a bridge over a chasm in a crypt. You here a whisper from everywhere and nowhere at the same time. It says, "Step forward knowing and wise, lest you meet your grim demise. Who is the Greek God of both song and sun, who's love for the arts are second to none?" You think a moment and analyze the rows and columns of letters before you. Ever so carefuly you step on these letters in a zig-zag pattern: A-P-O-L-L-O. YAY! You made it across! :-D
You get the idea. ;)
Here's another one I've been drooling over: A beautiful coastline/beach tileset that's only 0.7 MB!!! - http://nwvault.ign.com/Files/hakpacks/data/1059420046363.shtml

Re: HakPak Requests Posted: 22 Oct 2003 04:46 AM |
after playing around on the net i ran into somthing i thought looked pretty dang cool, a sky. since everybody now uses some form of camera hak be it the built in one or the downloadable one, there is a need for a sky. just haveing the grayish background realy kinda kills all the nice effects in the game, there might be some great looking new trees or buildings but when under the bleak gray well just looks bad. i dont know how much trouble adding this would be, but if you could it would make all the difference in the world as far as looks go.
if you are at all interested here is the page i seen that made me realy want to see this be added http://nwvault.ign.com/Files/hakpacks/data/1043630083253.shtml |

Re: HakPak Requests Posted: 22 Oct 2003 08:06 AM |
I myself would really like to see a "sky" of some sort on Vives sometime.
Though I confess I don't have a clue how much trouble it would be to add, just like MattRuss.
The other thing is, it doesn't do anything at all for the actualy gameplay beyond eyecandy.
But on the topic of eyecandy...RoL used a Hak which made the hills....um..hills rather than cliffs with ramps. It was awesome! The same thing's used in Dreamcatcher 4, I believe. Again, don't know how much work it would be to put in, but to see all the hills as hills rather than silly ramp things would really add to the appearance of the server, IMHO.
Of course, neither of these things really qualifies as important or useful, but I happen to like them, so I thought I'd mention them. :P
