Re: **** DM EVENT: And the gate opens.... Posted: 15 Jan 2006 06:46 PM |
As for the point about splitting and running events at varios times, yes - it's possible. Not ideal certainly since those who have 'already done the job' may be prone to speak of it with those who haven't, but it's something I will try to bear in mind.
Obviously this creates some OOC issues since some will know what happened, I'll ask those to be understanding and speak of it as little as possible. Thanks
Great idea, IMHO. I would go even further and suggest that the events could be held first for the people who are much more advanced in levels, and after that, to characters that have less experience. I know this is never totally possible, as the preferred playing times vary greatly among us and some of the key members in the events must have a high level.
But, if it would be possible to try to host events mainly for characters near each others levels, I would see at least one benefit: There would be less "tourists", meaning that a lvl 5 character can do little when in the company of juggernauts of lvl 20+, who are on a rampage in front of the party. I know that the participation in a DM event is rewarding enough in itself, but people do want to contribute as much as possible (well, maybe some don't). There would be even more party interaction because characters would need each other more. And the DM could of course vary the difficulty for the different groups, so it was suitable for all. Anyway, my point is that running more events (the same ones, I mean) than one would be a good idea in my book. I don't know, maybe it isn't. You may commence torpedoing the idea now.
And I for one would be happy to keep my mouth shut, if it so happened that I had taken part of the first event. I'd never spoil it for anyone. |

To be honest, I'd hate to run the same event twice, it would be very boring not to mention it would seem that the end was predetermined. Boo.
However, I think all of my events have been for low levels or just no combat at all were involved. |

The Princess stared at Elvalia, glancing once more down at the letter, her head crowded with thoughts, with worries, then sighed.
"I agree, we will summon them, make arrangements for them to meet... but not here. Somewhere safer, warded. It is clear that this... thing, whatever it is, was aware they were going last time. We should take care to prevent that. Can you arrange it?"
"Aala," nodded Elvalia, "of course, your Highness."

The Council of Ferein calls upon all those who took part in the expedition of a few days ago to gather once more, so that facts may be compared and necessary steps taken to deal with what was found, any others wishing to assist are also welcome and should present themselves in the gardens of Tel'Elena at the time shown below.
((OOC - this meeting will take place tomorrow, Wednesday 18th January 2006 at 10pm GMT - 5pm EST. Is likely to be RP only therefore lag should be a minimal issue (hopefully). Those willing to attend should gather in Tel'Elena Gardens in Ferein at that time. It would be preferable if those who made it to the end on Sunday could take part, but any who didn't, and wish to come along nevertheless, should feel free to do so)) |

| My character, Mirg, would really like to be there. I won't get out of class until the meeting's just started. I'll probably be 30mins to an hour late...but i really want to catch all i can of it. When I log, i'll try to rush there. Thanks for the posted times and all. I wanted to do the event itself, too...but i had inlaws visiting from out of town. Not that trivial persuit and scrabble aren't fun...but Dance Dance Revolut...I mean, Vives, is way more fun. |

Not any more, the instructions are fine but the Elves have restructured somewhat, Tel'Elena is now north of the Path of Elbereth. In any event, you will get there, no need to worry arrangements wil be made for stragglers. |

Re: **** DM EVENT: And the gate opens.... Posted: 18 Jan 2006 09:49 PM |
“I would suggest that you meet again, perhaps at Ladriel to discuss your plans.” Following the practices of Ferein courtliness, Princess Sairalindë Nènharma meant to excuse them from the convocation at Tel’Elena, and her words had that effect. “It will need to be done soon, however. The longer the delay, the more likely it is that the plan will be compromised. It should be three or four days, at most, before you return to the Inner City.”
The plan was not perfect, but it was solid. There were two directions for action that required two parties, a double-pronged effort that would require perfect timing. One party would seek out a forgotten staircase at the rear of the former palace, deep within the ruin that had been the Inner City of Ferein. Something was hidden there, or so they suspected. The other party would directly assault the thing that called itself Elbereth’s Tear. Though the thing seemed to be protected by an enclosure of...glowing figures of the Mother, it was believed that if the statues were destroyed the tear would become vulnerable.
They would meet at Ladriel to decide who would be dedicated to each effort. But when?
Alton Highhill asked, “’ow do we arrange a meetin’ wivout talkin’ ‘bout it?” Indeed, they had been warned about speaking of anything they had seen at the convocation beyond the protected space of the towers of Magery in Vives: Tel'Elena itself, Ladriel, and Ka'azim....
“Perhaps you should decide when you will meet again while you are here,” the Princess replied.
“So, we’ll meet in Ladriel at free days from now?” Alton said to the group.
Again the Princess shuttled the group into a conclusion. “In three, perhaps four days from now young Halfling, you will be re-entering the city.”
“Oh,” Alton said. “So… Salt is our leader,” he proclaimed, “’e will decide.”
Salt turned a bewildered look on his friend. Others turned their eyes to the seer.
“So,” Alton said to him, “when do we meet?”
“Two days,” Salt said without thinking. “It should not be more.”
“Okie dokie,” Alton agreed. “Two days.”
So it was that Alton Highhill used the rules of court to trap his friend the Salt Sower into a position that he loathed: one of responsibility and great personal risk. In truth, he had not even planned to return to the fallen city, so ineffective had he been on the first foray. In the presence of half the Ferein Council, including the Princess and Elvalia Mellebin, whom he very much respected, he could not decline or shrink from it.
Leaving Tel’Elena, this responsibility weighed on him. And another thing irritated behind the rest of it. Where was Archmage Camthalion? Why had he not attended the gathering?
((Right—meeting at Ladriel at the same time, 5:00 EST or 10:00 GMT, on Friday Jan. 20. It will be as brief as it can be, just long enough to make a plan that we can execute in a less rabble-like manner than our first pass at the city… Actual event to follow on the weekend if the stars are right and DMs able. Thanks for the evening's puzzling pleasure Ranger!
Edit: earlier? Like 9:00 GMT or 4:00 EST? Friday might be tight after all. If I can't make it with Salt I'll post and things can carry on.)) |

((I would just make a couple of things clear about this meeting.
Firstly, it is not a DM event, though I may be 'around' it won't be for the purpose of running this - it is envisaged that it will be entirely player driven.
Secondly, if you were unable to attend either the event on Sunday, or the meeting yesterday, you should not feel that you are in any way unwelcome to attend either Salt's posted meeting or any future components of this storyline, feel free to go along if you wish to
