Re: Hakpack Links Posted: 26 Feb 2007 10:33 PM |
You don´t need the head override, since that is included in one of the hakpaks.
Oh, actually, you need it if you want a character with a non-standard head. The heads are part of the hak, that's right, but the haks load *after* character creation, that means, the heads are not available when you create the character. That's what you want the overrides for. |

| I downloaded the full set of hakpacks, but there doesn't seem to be a .exe in it for installation as per description on this forum! When will the government put a stop to this sort of thing? Please help me out of this desperate plight. |

It's a good thing there isn't a .exe....if there was it would likely not matter that much since I don't think any of the haks have the same name as the CEP2 ones...but from Elk's post:
The Viveshak1-8 files (or if you downloaded the complete package) you can extract by double-clicking and accepting to install them. They´ll be installed to the appropriate directory automatically.
The Vives1-68_2da.zip goes into Neverwinter Nights\NWN\hak, just extract it into that directory.
The vives.tlk.zip you extract into Neverwinter Nights\NWN\tlk. If you´re asked to overwrite existing files, accept. It will just replace the old files.
You don´t need the head override, since that is included in one of the hakpaks.
Pretty much it's all going into one of 3 folders depending on extension. They are haks/ override/ and tlk/ all of these already exist in a playable install of the NWN directory.
On my WinXP machine they are in C:/Neverwinter Nights/NWN
ps hope those '/' went the right way...I use linux a lot and sometimes I forget which is which ;-/ so it might be like haks\ tlk\ |

I don't think my computer even has a video card. It has shared graphics memory if thats what you mean.
*Googles ATI*
Its an AMD processor so it would probably work in a similar way. |

Let me rephrase the question:
What is your video card? If you don't know, right click on your desktop, select properties and look at the display tab. It should provide you some information that might clue us in.
The reason I ask is that I know this is a known bug with certain ATI video cards with certain ATI drivers. It has a problem with rendering certain kinds of textures so they come out "untextured" or white.

| There is no display tab as such. Under the 'Settings' tab there is a drop-down menu entitled 'Display'. The option selected reads: Plug and Play Monitor on SiS M760GX. |

Yeah, this happened only a few times to me. Can it be changed by the drivers installed, or no? |

Wh... Hey! *wishes she was good at making snappy retorts but alas, she's not, and simply sticks out her tongue* BHllbtthrt!
(aaand back on topic... sort of)
I've been having some sort of rendering issues at times as well (no, I don't have an ATI card because they are evil) but it seems to be crash-related: when I log back in afterwards, some of the stuff in my inventory has been turned into a white rectangle. It's just a minor annoyance, though. |

Re: Hakpack Links Posted: 27 Sep 2007 03:32 PM |
Actually I get the white texture/no texture/silver texture/whatever texture problem always when I log out and back into the game without completely shutting down NWN. The problem also only occurs with custom content I believe, most of the time it's customized armor or placeables like CNR trees and plants.
The game also tends to slow down in that case, it's already enough to minimize it (hit Windows key by accident) and return to make it a crawl. This happened to me with all video cards, no matter if nVidia or ATI. The white textures used to show up with the ATI 9800 in my old Mac, on the PC side I had the same problem with a GeForce 7600, just that the textures were black instead of white. I also had a lot more texture problems with the nVidia card and the buggy drivers drove me crazy, so I switched back to ATI, this time a x1950 Pro, and have far less problems with it now. This leads me to think that it has something to do with the available video RAM. The first card I had most texture bugs with had 128MB, the next one with slightly less problems 256MB, and the current ATI in my PC has 512, and I get almost no missing textures anymore.
But as I said, the problem only occured to me when I logged out and in without shutting the game down completely.
Besides that I must say that textures look far better with ATI, and GeForce cards have mostly disapponted me in NWN and NWN2. In my new Mac I have a GeForce again and still prefer the overall slower PC just for the nicer textures. I already ordered a replacement card for my Mac and plan to stick with ATI in the future. |
