Thanks to the DM's of the rescue mission for recognising the problem with lag and giving us the do overs.

Lucius I don't know how to answer that ti's a great compliment...Perhaps overdone. I did play a -lot- as a single player before coming to Vives...you learn or die. I have learned a lot about how to get people to come along from you. Your persistence amazes me.

To Karli....I just wish I could type as fast as you do... Great character.

I've been dropping by to see if there is any progress of late.

I upgraded my vid card and installed NWN2. Had to uninstall NWN to make room.
I am going to install it again. I can make room now ;-)

Briefly visited a couple of worlds. Seen nothing anywhere that approaches
what Vives was a couple years back. For the level of pure role play.

That said there is only so much to be gained from playing solo. And other than
a couple of brief cameo's I've ...

<quote>I suppose I could make a bard/fighter/rdd that could manage it though
Bard/RDD/PM might have more immunities (considers)

I have an idea for an event! Make me a level 40 for a day or two and I'll do an evil Bard/RDD/PM
invite everyone to gang up on me.WinkCan I custom build my lair too ? Please please please

No replies to such an inflammatory statement? Perhaps there is no pulse here...or am I just ignored as a rule?

In my experience the ten lives and one extra for every five levels works quite well. What happens..

Some pc's never do anything but charge ahead. In the name of role play. In a real life situation..these people die. On a permadeath server they tend to leave. They prefer an xp loss server. A certain couple comes to mind. A monk who loved knockdown nd his sidekick. Nice people loved rp and would talk for hours...but they didn't see any sense in modifying their behaviour.

New ...

Here's another vote for Johe...I like it...it's realistic and it causes problems that have to be overcome. But I think perhaps something like:

Raised con and str set to say 5 ...you get 2 con and 2 strength back in one day of game time.
Now what about head injuries? =P

Course a dwarf is tougher so his con would be +2. Maybe even recover at a faster rate?

Someone mentioned the "victim" sharing the damages with a cleric...since it does exhaust a spell (in some cases the cleric) I should think and I have seen it done and charged for..thing I hate is you have to raise a player before you can transport him.

Some dm's used to send them to Port and make them pay exhorbitant sumsWinkPerhaps if a pc is raised and healed by a cleric...they should loose ...

On the other hand, sometimes its necessary to respawn and jump back in, for instance if you're responsible for some low-level characters being in a high-level area. And the above would create some serious logistical problems... might not want to derail a DM-ed adventure in this way.

This is a very good argument against Johes temporary ability loss (TAL?) idea. This could be sufficient reason in its self not to implement this penalty. I can see two ways round ...

TPK's shouldn't happen. That is the result of bad dm'smanship for lack of a better term or stupid players. It does though...and if it does well...time for one of the 'gods' to step in.

For dm'd events of course...if it's a TPK because your three level 3's attacked a cr250 dragon with 9999 hitpoints and true seeing well...respawn and take your 5 con character back to wherever to lick your wounds ;-)

All - Something that has come up in the past is skills like bluff, intimidate and persuade, which some people buy into, some people don't. Opinion on the forums here seemed to be that these skills didn't mean much on an RP server

Tsk tsk renter6 I'm appalled. All the orcs you've played and never taken intimidate/barbarian to the level necessary to cause fear in your opponents? You have heard of "rage"?

We have a couple of ideas, although we've not yet decided which one to go with.

One of those ideas is to keep separate totals of XP given for various things, such as RP, combat, spellcasting, whatever. Any xp lost (if we have an xp losing system) might only come from one of the pools - so you might never lose RP xp for instance.

Anyway, we have time to work it out and make it better than in V1.

Here is one that may be new for ...

I suggest you make the equations for xp gain and respawn perfect and don't include many other variables in the system (ideally none).

In my experience there is more overhead in database access than anywhere else in NWN. LoME another player world uses the above and ORS and frankly is more responsive than Vives. I believe this is due to CNR and the large inventories kept by PC's though. Also it has been ruled that no pc is deleted. But then ORS has ...

The point I was trying to make with the "no cost" argument above is that a character is rewarded both XP and GP for crafting with no in game tradeoffs. The crafter is rewarded equally to the adventurer, and for some classes crafting reaps greater rewards than adventuring for the very reason that there is no risk. At the very least I don't think that should be the case in Vives. I think a crafter should not be both rich and powerful, but merely rich. I do ...

In NWN the game mechanics don't work much the same at all. I haven't figured out how to make a finesse fighter out of the fighter class. I intended Corbin to work this way, but it just didn't work out. I think rogue levels are essential. Incidentally the rogue class makes the finesse fighter much more effective in PnP as well, but I don't believe it is as necessary in PnP as it is in NWN.

Haven't done the fighter clases much in PnP so can't really ...

I consider that adventuring. For the sake of this argument gathering is not crafting, but an adjunct activity that supports it. Gathering does not give you XP itself, neither is it an integral part of the crafting activity.

This argument meaning your advocation that crafting should cost xp?

Nevertheless the "gathering" does generate a good deal of adventuring. Many times I have seen low levels party together and work together ...
