Q&A
Posted: 11 Jul 2013 05:33 AM
As suggested, am happy to open a Q&A thread, and answer any questions I can about Vives.

I need guidance from Henesua / Chief / anyone else whether the core secrets of Vives can be revealed. Things about the divine pantheon, the nature of magic, basically the secrets that were never discovered by players and might still need to be kept secret.

But otherwise happy to answer any questions I can. Anything about Menarok plots, night masks and fire knives, the opening of Netharu and the demons, Malakai Fenghuul, the tears of Elbereth, the three sisters, etc, etc. Including anything about behind the scenes stuff.

And to start with, I have a question for Johe! Just been catching up with the end of your (and Cora's stories). :)

The dark dreamer was a creation of mine. I gave BKatt some very minor pointers of what I had planned when handing over after Sol and I finally decided to call it a day. But seeing how the story panned out...I was a bit gobsmacked how close to my own imaginings it actually went. So my question...was that all played out in game? Including Johe going solo to the dark dreamers lair!?SmileyAnd the attack on the dark dreamer in Menarok's temple? Anyway, sounds like BKatt got the "spirit" of running the dark dreamer 100% spot on in my book. :)

Cheers,

Sirac

No objections from me. My presence in Vives is primarily as a caretaker of last resort of the module. I am not concerned about the story lines being revealed or any such thing.

Start with specific questions, and we'll see what we can do. :)

nps and good to know! :)

Did actually create a character and wander around briefly in DD, but tried to login last night and said I was missing 3 haks. tempustemple, Arabian nights, and tn003. Any idea where I find those?

Surely as Calmeir is hosting the mod now, would do no harm to just give him DM access to these forums? Presuming he doesn't want to play darker days and doesn't mind the fact he will totally spoiler the world of Vives?

We always used to give prospective new DMs the whole blue pill / red pill convo from the Matrix, cos there really was no going back!Tongue outOnce you found out the whole backstory and joined the DM team, it became a lot harder to enjoy the simple pleasure of being a player.

He doesn't have DM access?

Easily fixed.

Now how do I do that again?

Thanks for the heads up Sirac. However, unfortunately for me, I don't foresee having much time to really get in and play. So any bits that I can read up on, and possibly contribute in any other creative ways, I am for it.

It will definitely be interesting (having technically been "in and around" the world for so long) to see how very little I still really know. Even just as a player, I always found it fascinating how little of the world I had really seen, or finding out a new facet of the history.

I'm excited!

Thanks for putting it out there. I sort of wanted to ask outright, but it somehow didn't feel right to be so blunt. :P

The main issue is conflict of interest, in my opinion. Which Cal, obviously does not have.

The big secret is practically common knowledge amongst the philosophical player base. Most of us just RP'd a character coming to grips the existential angst so as to avoid metagaming. At least that was the case with me anyway. MAde it more fun.

Its the little secrets however that are delicious, and I think people will enjoy reading. Specifics of history, NPC backstories, what a DM was thinking etc... Thats what I loved to read when I first swallowed that pill.

Heh, as Barnas would've said, Virallax was "sweet"!

Must admit was one of the first critters I looked for as DM but looks like was removed. Vague memory we actually changed the name after the night mask plot finally concluded.

First little tidbit of not common lore for anyone who remembers the final destruction of the night masks.

Two nightmasks actually survived. The whisperer, the bard that had become a deathsinger and could provoke entire civilisations to upheaval and war. Who was responsible for turning Port against the Black Hand. And was persuaded by Jessup and co to step aside from the conflict after they swore their oath to Menarok. Guess quite a few people never knew that either, that the Hand won that fight because they swore allegiance to Menarok. :)

But Virallax Breathstealer also survived. He fought in the final climactic fight. But beforehand had met with Friel and Macha, and agreed to serve Friel if she rescued his corpse after the fight. Which sure enough she did, and created him a whole new body and a new start, free of his past.

Anyway, more importantly, where is Barnas!? :)

Cheers,

Sirac

I thought Virallax was still in the toolset. I know his armor is! The secret pact was kept pretty secret. I recall not too many knowing. I always wondered what happened to old V and who helped him. Tried to locate Barnas with an old email addy but no luck. Still trying though!

Alright just got done reading RotG/VoS. I'm not ashamed to say some tears were shed. Wow what a story! and I'm not tooting my own horn. You guys told the story, BKatt and I just wrote it down. All of it was in game, The trip to the temple was embellished of course and the last battle was done in more of a PnP style with a LOT of typingSmileyI really don't think I can bring the little guy out of retirement with a clear conscience, He and Cora deserve it, but maybe, just maybe, there may be another Jaxon walking down the boardwalk in Port Royal in the future. And MAYBE if I can get hold of BKatt, there MAY be a supply run or two in the old guyver's future :)

Worth having a read through the DM thread's we've started to open up in the new behind the curtains forum. Definitely some relate to the plots you mention. :)

Like, did you ever find out Meram was from creation a night mask. And her first job was to seduce and mess with you! :P

And heh, you might think you and Cora get to retire in peace, but the dark dreamer is still about! After all, how do you flee your dreams... :P

Seriously though, have had a wander around vives now as Sirac, and as DM. It's an amazing world, and very nostalgic. But without the people, it has no soul. So only way I would be likely to get involved again would be if others are interested and want to start playing again... *hint, hint* :)

Cheers,

Sirac

Songbird!!??
Heh I deserved that.

In my defense tho, Johe had a deep respect for Sirac and looked up to him.
Reading this stuff tho, it's amazing how mistaken I was. I ALWAYS considered PD to be the most diabolical of the DM's and literally feared him the most, but you sir are the most twisted, nefarious, sick minded individual I have ever gamed with, and I love you for itSmiley

Heh you probably need to reply to the thread you are quoting for me to remember which one in particular caused that reaction!? Have re-read sooooo much stuff over the last few days! To give an idea, the DM general forum runs to about 55 pages, that's more than the open general forum, and there were a lot less of us than there were players! But boy could we discuss things for a looooong time! I miss having that much spare time. :)

Anyway yea, people were always telling me I was eeeevil *sniffs sadly*

Just misunderstood I tell you! :P

If you come across a link that's not open, point it out and we'll see if it can be opened.

And no, Barnas and Sirac were the slyly evil ones.

I have no idea why anyone thought I was. I never really ran any "big evil" plots.

I was trying to get players to "win", but they'd sabotage me in so many ways that I didn't have to be evil. Unless it involved Jessup, and sheep. Or Salt and his Frobozzian mail outfit.

On the other hand, I could influence the world by dropping in little thing like the nethar'u gum ball machine. That placement still makes me laugh.

Purpose in life: finding better ways of allowing players to kill themselves. Repeatedly.

Yea pdw was all sweetness and light. And if you believe that, I've got the deeds here for the tower of London, for a very reasonable price! :P

His DM avatar wasn't named the Butcher for no reason ya know!! *grins, ducks and runs*

Seriously though, one of the best things about DM'ing here was the collaboration. Bouncing ideas off each other. And off the players, it was so true that stories evolved and developed a life of their own once we started the ball rolling, and the players got involved.

Cheers,

Sirac

In my experience the Vives team did this very well. And is why I have fond memories of the place. I think this lead to a high percentage of fully engaged players, which also made it fun.

It was the quality of players that made it possible.

The application process cut down on the numbers, but those who went through it tended to be the more imaginative, dedicated type.

Ficcy's application was just...weird, weird, weird. We all scratched our head because she seemed like a complete nutter.

History proved us correct and we all benefited from it.

Yeah, what a weirdo! I told you we shouldn't have approved that one.

Fun fact #1: DMs like to tease other DMs on their applications and say what terrible players they are, mock-threatening to ban them.

Fun fact #2: This once resulted in us accidentally banning PDW for real temporarily due to not enough DM votes to keep his application active. At least, I think it was accidental. Right, Sirac?
