Invisible ettins

Lately, the ettins in the Bloodwood have taken to turning invisible. That is, not by spell or spell-like ability, but just downright not there, sometimes in the middle of combat. Not being there, does however not prevent them from damaging you, just you from damaging them. You can luckily see where they are by pressing tab and getting their nametag. So, if you see a nametag running about with no ettin attached, run away, and don't take the dirtnap like i did;) Berserkers with perma-invisibility is a nasty piece of work.

Has anyone else experienced this, or is it just me? First time it happened i asked PDWalker on irc about it, and it seemed to have something to do with being out of sync with the server. As of yet this has only happened to me in the Bloodwood.

Known bug between the client and the server.

The internet is not perfect. Sometimes data between your machine and the server gets lost on route. When this happens, bad things happen.

One of those things is your client doesn't fully know about the ettins, so the models are not shown. Your client knows they are there, but you cannot see them.

When that happens, you had best leave the area as quickly as possible. If they follow you, they should appear normal in the next area, or if you return you should now see them properly.

It happens to everyone eventually.

Ah, so this could happen anywhere then. Keep tab pressed, and if you see a name with no model attached, leg it. *nods*

The other option when this happens (for the fighter sort) is to move out of combat and then wait perfectly still when the invisible creature follows. Auto attack should kick in and start attacking back if you have no actions taking place when the first round of a new combat begins. For the caster sort, area effect spells work fine.

Heh, point taken. Red names with no model attached then;)

Moving out of combat means running away for a bit and then stop? I'm not quite sure how the autoattack works. Sometimes i hit things i dont mean to, whilst other times the character just stands around flatfooted. Anyone care to explain the mechanincs?

I remember the invisible Ettins well. *wipes a tear*

Thanks for explaining this PDW. I thought it was a problem on my end.

Summons, familiars, and animal companions seem to be able to still target and attack invisible creatures as well. And area effect spells, or spells with splash damage can harm them.

As others have suggested,

- use area of effect spells
- use a summons
- use your friends
- run to a friendly npc and let them help you out
- move away from the creature and hope that you get a successful attack of opportunity to allow your PC to automatically start attacking the monster

and of course my favorite...

Run away! Run away!

*sings*

Brave Sir Robin ran away
Bravely ran away away

When danger reared its ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled

Yes Brave Sir Robin turned about
And gallantly he chickened out

Bravely taking to his feet
He beat a very brave retreat

Bravest of the brave Sir Robin

Packing it in and packing it up
And sneaking away and buggering up
And chickening out and pissing about
Yes, bravely he is throwing in the sponge
He is sneaking away and buggering up--

[Moderators Note: In the frozen land of Nador the poster was forced to eat Robin's minstrels. And there was much rejoicing.]
