The Healing List

Please let others know in this thread if you are averse to having healing spells/items cast/used on you without your permission and out of a RP context.

Now, I'm not talking about heat of battle, your friend's got your back, they see you're getting low and they slap a cure serious on you. I'm talking about my character minding their own business in front of Miss Miggins, talking to another character, a third character rolls up and busts out a healing kit on me without saying a single word. Or, I show up for an event, and some well-meaning dude looks at my health status and decides that I need a cure moderate without making an IC comment, not knowing that my character recently took 15 magic missiles to the dome and has no visible wounds.

HP are a subjective concept. Someone who has lost 10, 15, or even all but one of their HP isn't necessarily wounded. It's up to the individual player to decide, and when you walk up and slap a bandage on me, you make that choice for me. If you're curious, a simple IC "Are you all right? You look pale..." would go a long way. That would actually give me an opportunity to RP with you, which is what we're all here for, right? ;)

I mean, really - applying a bandage is sort of an intimate thing.. would you just walk up to someone on the street (even a friend) and wrap their wrist in an ace bandage without saying a word? Wouldn't that be the slightest bit creepy?

Please, discuss - anti-healers, unite!

Usually it's something like, "Hello, Sir, Ma'am, I'm with the local rescue squad. What seems to be the problem? Oh, I see. We're going to put this blood pressure cuff on you, and you might feel some squeezing in your arm. Where do you feel the pain?" Etc. etc. :P

Anyone that wants to heal me, I'll generally not mind, but I'd like it if you said something at least :)

I do not mind either if someone wants to heal me without saying anything. But like Tasra, I would like it too if something was said though. I try to do the same.

I think it goes w/o saying that no one would really mind being healed (even though it may be inappropriat in manner er whatever excuse you wanna make)...unless you were undead...then you'd care :)
If my Gukuthul Cleric ever made it to lichdom or vampdom....No, dont heal me :)

<3, VK.

I've been saying this for a long time myself. Treating someone's wounds requires you to get very intimate, and it's also time consuming. First aid doesn't sum up to slapping someone with a couple of bandages, and healing kits shouldn't too. It's alright in the midst of battle, where there's no time to be concerned about this, but in non-hostile situations RPing it (even very briefly) or not makes all the difference in the world. Asking the other PC first, maybe even describing some actions etc. makes the RP all the more enjoyable. There's more to healing kits than a handful of bandages - magical/non-magical herbs, potions, stitches, sanitizers. Bandages don't heal, they only keep all these together. Treating a wound is more than just slapping it with cloth.

Of course, thoroughly describing healing in this manner can get very tedious and distracting, but at least refer to it when you're not under the time constraints of battle or the like. Ask the other person before applying kits, it -is- very personal.

Oh and, I don't think the person looks healthy after withstanding 15 missles. Blood trickling from the corner of the mouth, hazy look, weary appearance, paleness. I also always figured a Magic Missle leaves some burns.
