A terrible Vision, the breaking of Moon Fireforge Posted: 14 Jan 2006 04:53 AM |
Moon had been resting in the Plains, intending to attempt yet again to mine some iron ore, if she could win her way past the Ogres. Standing, she was about to burst into a run when suddenly she felt constricted at the throat. Putting her hands up she clawed at the imaginary hands cutting off her air supply, to no avail. Darkness swooped in and soon she fell to the ground spitting out blood, while weakly convulsing upon the dry earth.
"Father..." she cried weakly, out loud or in her mind, she knew not. Utter despair swamped her mind and emotions, and then she saw them, her people, her family, as she had never seen them before. Emaciated and starving, disease ridden and dying. There were no herds upon the lands to hunt, no fire to keep them warm, her father lay weakly inside the family tent, her brother dead by his side upon a filthy sleeping pallet. Her whole tribe suffered the same fate, dead or dying, and she could almost smell the stench of fear and despair.
Moon tried to cry out, perhaps a weak sound of denial issued from her bitten bloody lips. Then it was that she knew not only the deepest despair, but also a fear so great, that it stripped her of all courage, all that she had ever thought herself to be. Eyes, red and malevolent stared at her out of the darkness; a woman's eyes so full of power Moon shrieked and tried to curl within her self to escape the terrifying gaze. Laughter so cold filled her mind and soul, her breathing almost stopped and she wished herself dead, yet feared even this terror would follow her into the afterlife.
As quickly as the darkness had appeared, it disappeared, leaving the terror and utter despair rooted deep within Moons soul. Weakly she sat up, spitting blood and retching, her fingernails digging into the earth as is for comfort that life was still around her and fertile. After some moments, she gathered herself and stood, turning she saw the silent old man who walked the plains, and running up to him, she pleaded asking if he too, had seen the darkness. The old man at first ignored her, and then miraculously he turned to her. His gaze so full of pity and sadness Moon stumbled back a step, and then watched as without a word the old man resumed his silent walking.
The images were so fresh in her mind that Moon at first decided to return to her people and warn them, somehow make them understand. Then as strength returned to her broken mind, she knew that would avail no one, and instead made her steady way towards the docks. It was as she was about to leave the Plains that she met Kerriston Hall, and through this meeting she delayed one day and travelled with him, leading him to the lands near the Gladden Fields. Together they saw an Ice palace, ate bear meat and explored. But her mind urged her to not turn away from her task and soon she bade farewell to her companion, returning once more to the docks of Midor and the ships therein.
She met a Dwarf in emerald and black armour, and after a short speech they parted ways. At the docks, she had to wait until morning to board the ship, and while waiting she met Zhan, the silent traveller. They talked through the night and though Moon could not read what the silent man wrote upon his slate, she understood his mimes and took heart from his wisdom. While the moon rises so too shall the sun, and with each new day, there is always hope.
Boarding the ship Moon travelled to Ferein and walked along the Path of Aros. She was seeking answers to her vision, for she knew it to be no nightmare. Whatever was about to happen, the only people she could think of asking were the Elves. Perhaps Elvalia would be around, for moon had travelled with the mighty Elven woman a few times, perhaps she would have answers to the terror that threatened to flood Moons mind at any moment. |

Moon never looked back to her companions; she simply walked from the Temple gardens. They had survived the Lost City of Ferein...but only because the power that lay there allowed it. She felt as if her mind were unhinged, too many thoughts and emotions swirling about inside of her.
Moon was not known for her intelligence or wisdom, she could not read her own name. Yet, she was a creature of the free lands, and while her words, thoughts and deeds might seem simple, there was at times wisdom in them. For the most part, she was an instinctive person, quick to laugh, and quick to take up her Warhammer and kneecap the nearest enemy.
She did not understand a quarter of what had been spoken of in that terrible wailing place; she only knew despair, utter despair, and her own anger. Leaning against a tree she picked up a leaf that had fallen, stroking it, she relived the last hours, her mind caught on the last few and the woman with red eyes, Elbereths Tear.
In that place of poison gas and twisted horror, stood about the red eyed woman beautiful statues of the Mother. Moon did not pray to the one named Elbereth, rather her people thought the very earth itself was alive, like a mother it nurtured her children. Some claimed that to be Elbereth, Moon did not know, she respected the land, and the land nourished her people.
The red eyed female had seemed true in her confusion about the visions and so too her ignorance of the sickness. Moon had always assumed that the red eyed witch had sent the visions to torment them cruelly before the actual event. Now Moon did not believe this to be true, she sensed, rather than understood from the words that flew through the air that night by many, that the red eyed one had not sent forth those visions. Always her mind came back to those beautiful statues, why would the red eyed witch surround her throne with them, why were they there, and who was SHE?
Crushing the leaf in her hand Moon pushed herself from the willow tree and started to run, silent tears falling from her eyes, as a deep sense of betrayal welled up inside of her. A creature of emotion, Moon ran for hours, the legendary stamina of her people evident in her every stride.

Moon lay below decks of the ship heading towards Port Royal, her hands flapping outward towards the magical runes that surrounded her.
"Dang blasted mages, dang blasted magic!" she grumbled, as for the hundredth time she swatted into thin air. She of course did not mean it; she in fact understood that those who harnessed magic could be very helpful indeed. It was just this magic she objected too...because it had been laid upon her to make a point.
The expedition had gone well, at least in many respects it had. Moon had been most pleased at how much more of a single unit they had all been, the leaders solid and excellent at their jobs. She had felt much more at ease knowing who to look to, and seeing everyone help each other. Most of all she had been warmed with an inner glow that she now had her true name, given by none other that Galm, a half Orc of great heart, and sense.
"Ruuk" she whispered out loud
It meant 'Moon' in Orcish, yet she actually felt just as happy because it was her birth name. Since leaving her clan Moon had felt a loneliness never known to her, a sense of separation that she had never dreamed of. When Galm gifted her with the name of Ruuk, Moon felt that he had done what the elders of her clan would have done. Galm had performed her naming ceremony, and she took joy in its simplicity.
Scowling she focused on the expedition into the Lost City. She had fallen there, and Alton had done something to bring her back. Moon wrinkled her nose as she tried to understand how hitting her over the head could do that, at least, she thought someone said that is what he'd done. Shrugging she let her thoughts wander over that day and night. They had reached the Palace, and split up. One group to follow Master's Salt and Conn, the other to follow the Lady Paladin Uli. One group was to locate a secret stair, the other was to destroy the statues of Elbereth within the Palace and thus weaken/divert the Tear as the others searched. It had gone well, and Moon had been impressed at how everyone in her group had smashed at those statues until nothing but dust was left of them!
Moon sighed, for her memory of that time was still fuzzy, and though she knew they fought enemies, she could not recall where and what. The Tears screams overshadowed all of that, and after discovering that the Tear had effectively blocked off the secret stair, at least for now, they had all run with haste back to Ferein, fearing the great light that had exploded over it was the Tear attacking that fair land.
And this is where Moon felt utter confusion. She recalled master Salt saying that one of the 'sleepers' had said that the sleeping druid and the other sleeper would not waken until the Lost city had been cleansed. Yet what they found in the druids grove showed this statement to be wrong....or was it?
There was amazement as the sleeping druid awoke, and then a secret path blocked by fallen rocks, which they all smashed to clear a passage. Down below they found one of the 4 thousand year old Elven sleepers...awake! There they stood, the head druid and the old sleeper. Much was spoken of, many seemed pleased to see them awake. While she, Moon was pleased, she was also most wary. They spoke of many things, the Tears, and how to 'help' the corrupted Tear. Moon looked about and wondered why most if not all, were willing to believe that THIS sleeper, was indeed the TRUE sleeper and not some trickery of the corrupted Tear.
And that's when it happened, she opened her mouth and spoke of her mistrust of this sleeper Lady. In her blunt way, she demanded that this sleeper allow the elves at Tel'Elena to hold her until she was proved to be true or false. There was some outrage from some of the others in their group, but Moon would have none of it. Still in her mind she saw those red eyes, still, she saw her clan dying and she helpless to aid them. To allow this Elf the freedom to walk Ferein was madness and she for one would speak up and say so! That is when the sleeper performed her magic upon Moon, magic to boost her strength and other things Moon had no idea about. Good magic, that was the sleepers point, yet Moon did not know if the Tear was capable of this or not. At one time the tear had been as pure as the others, perhaps it had access to such magic, perhaps now that it was corrupted it could not gain further knowledge in such good magic, but to Moon, this did not mean that it could not make use of what was already learned. She felt a suffocating power emanating from the sleeper, good or bad she could not say, yet she felt no direct threat.
Covered in magical runes, her body strong and hearty, Moon stood defiantly and demanded that the sleeper keep her word and reside at Tel'Elena until such a time as they would all meet again. She had promised to be at the sleepers back all the way when they did make another expedition, and Yggs the noble Elf had promised to be at Moons back. The message was clear, she Ruuk did not trust this sleeper, and would not risk everything she held dear to her, just because others did.
"After all" she whispered "Someone was able to steal the Tears from under the Elves nose, who better than an Elf to have that freedom?" A thought that had been nagging at her since she learned of how the Tears had been stolen.
((OOC: Please forgive me I am AWFUL with names and could not remember how to spell the Lady Paladins, nor the two sleepers names...just hit me with a hammer!)) |
