Volume one - the early days.
Below is an excerpt from the recently discovered Journals of the late Pickston Rickticks, recently made available by his business partner and good friend Jessup the Younger.
Week one, day one-
"Mister Jessup and I were having a conversation today about some of our recent explorations and how we might take others along with us that wish to see the world as well. In time we might charge for the service, guiding em around in some of these places. After all, we can guide them to minerals, herbs and places in general that would normally be innaccessible to them. We of course would have control over whats found and how it would be distibruted to the party if we did come across any sort of valuable material along the way, which generally seems to be the case... generally.."
Week one, day two-
"We're in the process of planning our first "official" tour. Gathering supplies and planning a route... loosely anyway, more like a general direction to be honest. One constant with adventuring I've found is that areas we've been in can change quickly. One day there might be a forest with birds chirping and leaves on the ground, serene really. The same night its filled with giant spiders... or worse. Bandits have been a problem lately as well in one area we've been considering. Not that it would stop us from going there, but killing the lot of them might be tiresome and draining of resources. We need to do this thing as cost effectively as possible at first since we've decided that the tours will be free of charge for the time being, to those that attend, but the touring company controls the Lions share of the finds. A fair exchange really. Oh! I need to go down to the govie building here in the port and get a business license... I wonder whats required, other than gold of course heh. Anyway, we are not going to be venturing for too many days at a time as yet, we're going to shoot for an exploration into the frozen wastelands beyond Icy Vale fairly soon, there is an Orc camp there and I here some sort of loud rumblings off in the distance as well in the Cold Canyon... mining charges perhaps, but orcs engaging in scientific mining seems peculiar... Mister Jessup and I are of the opinion we can best the Orcs as a group if we are tactful in our approach"
Week one, day five.
"We've decided to venture into the Cold Canyon and explore the regions beyond. Orcs or no, it is in the interests of the civilized people of vives, and our own now that we've bought all of this equipment, that the way be opened for those that would go into places such as this. By force if necessary, we will go into the places no one else dares to set foot. This is a scientific and selfish pursuit for certain, but it benefits civilization and we will bask in the glory of what we will do on these "Tours". On a lighter note, They have good ale in the Vale, im looking forward to that.. Coruva is along on this tour as well as several others, myself and Mister Jessup. The Dwarf can talk for hours... he is very wise though, for a talker it seems."
Week two, day two-
"We arrived in the Plains today just outside of Midor and set up camp. In the distance we can see the faint glimmer of a fire on a hillside to the north. To the south we can see Gorlath Keep and the Midor Mountains in the distance. Others joined us here and we are preparing to set out into the Mineath Caverns and the Pass beyond to the Village of Icy Vale. One bar, one inn and one shop, a stable, and guards.. more of an outpost really as I recall than a village. Dinner is being served, dang I hope jessup didnt decide to stand in as chef again. Ill never forget that cookout we had that time *sigh*. I did not think a body such as mine could hold that much vomitus and gas really. Also we dont want the party to get sick or die on us before the tour even begins. Righto, I believe I will see whats on the menu".
Week two, day four-
*editors note* Pickston and Jessup's Tour is recorded as entering Icy Vale on this day. The sight of the party and their caravan is told in the village to this day. Much of the townsfolk gathered with the touring party in the Icy Vale Inn, friends talked and make preparations should something go awry. (a sketch is on this page below this text of the tour party and the caravan in front of the Icy Vale Inn.)
"We arrived in the remote village of Icy Vale today and were immediately greeted by the local townsfolk. The journey was made slow by the weather conditions in the Whipsnade and the Bandits we encountered along the way. Most of the party are chatting and enjoying a finely cooked meal of venison which we had waiting for us when we arrived. I told the party to have that extra drink they normally refrain from with a smile a few moments ago. A few went and began checking their equipment again outside afterward.. a few drank another beverage. The Orcs will not welcome us, that is for certain. We've prepared to deal with them as an inevitability. Luck of the Trickster be with us."
