Why can you pick a fight with Ender? Posted: 04 Sep 2005 12:25 AM |
| Why exactly can you pick a fight with Ender in his tent in the Scorched Earth? Wouldn't killing him be a major IG change to Vives, warranting a buildup a little greater than a series of single response answers? |

The same could be said of PC's, yet no matter the odds, no matter how badly they've been beaten, battered, abused and dismembered they keep coming back.
Welcome to the world of online games where it is unfortunately impossible to have a DM around to adjucate your every action and handle the repercussions of your actions. The technology and the computing power just does not exist yet to allow what you ask.
So, we have to compromise. If your character kills an NPC and the NPC comes back, well, perhaps his friends have helped him out. Good thing for you his memory has been lost.
If you want your actions to have a more permanent effect, then it would be best not to rely on the computer AI, but instead enlist the aid of a DM to help adjucate the effects of your actions, and if it is warranted, see that changes are made IG to reflect the consequences of your IG actions.
If, on the other hand you feel this could give you the chance to take advantage of the poor computer AI, think again. You might just get caught and be forced to endure the consequences of your actions for some time to come.

I was asking more along the lines of, why even have it as an option? You can't have a dialogue with just any NPC and end up turning them hostile, why have one with Ender? Why have an in character mechanism for picking a fight with Ender and potentially killing him?
I didn't want to end up fighting Ender. I didn't end up killing him; I ran off once I saw all the people in the tent turn hostile. He is a mysoginist pig, sure, but by the time the conversation escalated, there was no way to back down - there was only one dialogue choice to choose, and even hitting Escape didn't help. So he attacked me. Why he would attack a level 8 fighter decked in full plate with his bare hands is beyond me.
At least in my mind, it would have made much more sense to have Ender, at the end of the "aggressive" dialogue tree, kick the PC out of the tent (teleport back to the Scorched Earth) then bar the PC from going back in. |

Some of the quests and scripts (and other stuff in the mod) was written a long long time ago by people who are no longer even here and who possibly didn't think of the consequences. Best suggestion I can make until someone gets round to being able to look at that script is don't choose that dialogue option .
