save yourself some trouble and dont play eve online ever Posted: 01 Sep 2003 09:14 PM |
If you like montounous mining simulations in the vastness and emptiness of space then eve is up your alley. you get the sheer joy of staring at rocks and lasers for hours on ened tryinfg to make money the only way you can .... mining. And once you get a better ship guess what now your instore for mining overdrive yes thats roght with a bigger badder ship your still incabaple of anything but.... more mining. Of course you could go and hunt the npcs pirates... who all look the same and come in one of 2 varieties... easy and bad drops, or overly hard... and bad drops you wont make enough money to cover the ammo you used against them. and if you decide to try out some really hard pirates you'll most likely die in a few seconds to the scores of player pirates. If you are so inclined you can fight back agaisnt the player pirates but this requires.... yep you guessed it more mining ALOT more mining to raise the money for a battlship. |

Yes I think they generally all suck and are all power play areas that cant be considered interesting until you've advanced enough that the experienced players in the game might start to interact with you.
I played one called Neocron, a cyber punk world. Interesting ideas would be fantastic if it was roleplay. The problem - one way to advance, get into the sewers and kill a few million rats, with a knife. Bigger problem - for some reason your so inept that to hit a rat might take you 20 odd swings. Then it still wont be dead.
All the while you wont meet anyone becouse no one new is playing the game. Wonder why?
Also in the back of your mind you know through meta gaming and checking the server status that there are loads of people having great fun taking over each others bases in the outlands. Driving vehicles, getting involved in all the good parts of the game that you cant. Unless you endure bordom of an unrivalled level for hours on your own in a sewer.
Oh yeah and then you forget where your apartment is... arrrghhh!
Then you find the way back to it but no one has told you the code to get to your floor in the lift... oh god it sucked.
These are the kind of places your greeted with people saying oh your a newbie let me help you thats the way to the sewer... ha ha your character is such a poof! etc...
Ok I have to stop myself... thats it think of something nice now... ah... Vives.
(Gaming with truely unlimited scope, size and epic scale can only truely happen in your head)
P.s. No idea where that came from but I like it. |
